Thats the usual stomping ground of Stevo and the crew @Whiteroom. Might be worth contacting them? might have a space for day guiding? or suggest another local?

one things that pretty shit, is that even with the ‘entertainment and sport’ pass on Disco+, it wont let me watch DH highlights?

Is anyone else having this issue?

Some dropper Posts can be lowered by inserting a spacer to reduce available travel. This would lower the saddle height. Which post do you have?

I wouldn’t chop the seat tube, if only not to void the warrantee.

I have a large Signal Ti, which I am going to sell to get a Pinion version too!
I’m planning a long bikepacking trip next year, so I want the pinion for that.

Just measured the seat tube for you.
It’s 300mm from top of S/T to where the tube bends toward the BB. Can’t guarantee the Pinion version is the same though?

This might work- just lose the Bafang motor, job done.

I had a Yuba Mundo for just this purpose. Seat on the built in rack, stoker bars for the passenger to hold on to and foot boards for them to stabilise on. Might be worth checking eBay. They’re heavy, steel beasts, but fab to ride (I’m also in brighton, Hi)

    errr…. pinion?
Better solution surely? when frame builders start jumping on the train.

I doubt you’ll notice any difference.
Often run differing weight oils, using what I have available. Worst case is you’ll have to adjust damping by a click or so, but I don’t think you’ll notice a change so small.

Good to know they are the same fixing centres. Literally just bought some sea sucker versions today, will buy the Ztto ones now and return the others.

not mixed 12 sp chain with 11sp cassette however, so cant attest to that.

12 speed mech works perfectly on 11 speed drivetrain. I’m doing it.
…better range from the deralliuer too.

—— 1) Do you need a wee remote mic? I’ve seen what looks like a little lapel mic, is that necessary if holding the go-pro at arms length? (I guess I’ll be able to figure that one out quite quickly by myself)——

If you want to remove wind noise, then yes, you’ll need a better mic solution. The Media Mod is very useful, but means the GoPro is not waterproof.

—— 2) How big an SD card for a long ride’s worth of footage? I’m guessing several GB minimum?——

Cards are cheap enough, just get the biggest you can.

—— 3) Are spare batteries necessary?——

Yes, they never last as long as you’d hope. Also, if you have spares, you can choose when to shoot/change batteries. (Not afraid of running out etc) I have about 5 spares, so I don’t need to bring chargers away on trips etc.

The Marin Trail is pretty good I reckon.
Not too ‘trail centre’ and proper remote feeling (even though it’s not)

Penmachno is ace too, just pack a snorkel.

The button sequence on the moon is a little un-intuitive, but fine when you done it a few times. The light itself is robust, bright and cheap.

I’ve always really liked ‘Chrome’ bags. They very durable, well thought out and comfortable.
Maybe not the cheapest option, but have a large range of sizes and very good quality.

I often carry camera gear in mine, there’s plenty of lashing points and smaller pockets etc:

I can concur with the reports of Granite strap breaking. Mine broke last week, losing quite a few tools in the process. Didn’t notice until a while later so couldn’t really go back.

    Grrrr…..

I just got my 11yr old (twins) XS 650″ wheeled FS Giants, 2nd hand. They are 120mm travel XC bikes, very light and they are running 26″ wheels in them right now. Frames were cheap and bits came from all sorts of places including 2nd hand wheels.. I reckon they’re lighter than new bikes of twice the price.

    Worked out about £5-600 each.

Its gonna get shortened though isn’t it….

Very good. Made me chuckle anyway.

Also worth noting, the 2014/5 (and maybe others, but this is what I have) enduro used the same front triangle for all the wheel size bikes. They just used a spacer under the headtube to affect different geometry.

    NOT very sophisticated.

Yeah, i just tend to use this type of bike as a kind of ‘hybrid’ between bits of road and sections of off-road.

Maybe Hybrid is a good enough term?

Oh, wait a cotton pickin’ minute…..

Yeah, the clowns at QF took my car for a bit of a jolly too. Only way I found out, is they got a camera speed ticket, nowhere near their workshops. Tsk tsk.

Yeah, I use clip on guards but they’re not full length ones. Pretty effective though.

I’ve never felt the need for a 50t chainring. I’m just not that into it. 😜

I’m the same as the OP- hate drops and only really ride on hoods if I use a road bike.

So, I just use a fast XC mountain bike, (ti frame, carbon fork) with rigid fork and larger chainrings. Works fine for me. You could add TT aero bars easily I guess.

I don’t group ride with roadies, so no problem with what anyone else thinks.

I ride both Gwydr mawr (Marin) and the beast a few weeks back. For the first time in about 10 years and enjoyed both.

The Gwydr seemed longer than I remembered, but had a nice remote feel and a good amount of tech (ish) Singletrack. I quite like a long fire road warm-up to deliver more tech descent. Not a single other cyclist did I see. (It was raining)

Beast seemed the same as when I last rode it. But, more like riding up a river, as it was raining that day too.

Best trail in N/W in my view is Penmachno. It’s always like riding up/down a stream, so you know what you’re getting. All rocky, more technical and remote. Lovely.

for those looking to save lists of purchases etc:

Load your orders, check the ‘view all’ list link to right of the search button. Then, right click (or something, i’m on a mac) then go “save as”. select the ‘whole web page’ option in the drop down, then save the order page somewhere. Doesn’t get ALL the item in one order, but is a good aide memoir.

I’ve got the Showers Pass ones, they’re pretty good. With braces they hold up well and have Velcro lower cuffs.

    I currently have:

    180mm Enduro ggnarr machine

    140mm trail fs

Ti hardtail, for winter and (with wheel swap) gravel/hybrid

    pump track 26” DMR hardtail

    ratty pub bike.

if I had space, I’d add:

    e-cargo bike

cant see a need for anything else tBH.

Yeah, an electric cargo bike with a rack they can sit on would be best I reckon.

I used to have a yuba mundo, which worked a treat for this. They do an electric one too now I think.

All my riding glasses are photochromic.
They’re more expensive, of course, but they work well and….. why wouldn’t you?

    Pinion?
The geared hub system seems just a passing point on the way to the real winner of frame mounted internal gears.

I did really like my Alfine though. Zero maintenance in the 3yrs i had it, wading through British winters and gloop.

I’m just about ready to order a Pinion soon. I think that’ll be a keeper.

    I’ll take:

    Mech hanger
    Rear mech (saves cost)
1 tyre, for front or rear.
Spare rim and set of spokes for re-build (as I build my own anyway and fits easily in bike bag)
Brake pads. 2 pairs. (But I put freshies in before I go)
I also have a spare rear shock that I pack, because it’s small and I have it.

Anything else would be random chance and I’d have to solve out there.

Picture of a school sign, drawn onto a tangerine, then shoved in his exhaust pipe when he stop outside the school.

He’ll make it about 20m down the road and then look like the tool he plainly is.

But THEN, own him with some bombers.

I used to live right at the base of Diablo for a while. It was my regular weekend trail ride.

I’d often stop at sunset and look at the views…. Only to discover hoards of Tarantula crossing the trail.

One climbed up and over my tyre, through the spokes and on its way as I was watching.

    It’s quite a big hill isn’t it?

    @Marin
Thanks for the suggestions about Spain.
I’ve ridden around Alicante, but not further south at all.

    I’ll check those places out.
