    A few days

I got the chance to buy a Parlee cyclocross frameset. It arrived, it was everything I knew it would be (already a Parlee owner).

    Why did I sell it??!!

Anyway, it went to a lucky new owner from here. Hope it’s getting used.

Anyway, thanks for posting the pic of my cracked Moots headtube.

Wanted to respond yesterday but couldn’t.

We had to put both our Springers to sleep last year. Molly, the youngest was 7. She had liver failure. She died the day after my 40th. My wife was convinced she held on till after my birthday. It was totally unexpected and so quick as Oscar, who was 15 when he was put to sleep was every bit his age in his body but not in his mind and we thought he’d go first. The poor old sod was incontinent of urine which we treat with a home made cumberbund and Boots urinary incontinence pads (highly recommend). He could only walk a few steps in the end, couldn’t poo without one of us holding him up (otherwise he would sit in it).
We were being selfish as we lost Molly unexpectedly, we kept him going. I used to look at him and feel so shit for doing it to him, he just looked so tired sometimes. We knew the time was right and we were just being selfish, he loved nothing more than going for a walk and he couldn’t even do that.

What I wanted to say is, just as many others have, you’ve done the kindest thing for your dog, it’s being a good RESPONSIBLE owner. As also mentioned, you will feel a sense of relief. It won’t make you feel any better but there will be that sense of relief that your best friend isn’t suffering any more.

Nathan’s in Coney Island for a hotdog and a ride on the Cyclone roller coaster (real old rickety wooden one). Then pop into Roy’s bike shop on Sheepshead Avenue, Brooklyn. A bit of daunting place is Roy’s as you have to enter down the side street. I wear in awe when I first went into Roy’s many years ago; row upon row of Yeti’s (ARC’s etc) hanging from the roof. Haven’t been in years though :(
Whilst in Brooklyn why not pop into RA Cycles if you seriously want to hammer your credit card. They can be a bit snooty/stand-offish especially if you aren’t shelling out several grand though. At least they were when I went in and only came out with 2 Arundel carbon bottle cages.

Bronx zoo is worth a visit too.

I hate to say it but Lance Armstrong……

    Avoid:

Marco Pantani – boring, boring, boring. The guy was a mess, and Matt Rendall writes as interesting as he presents on ITV4 – yawn, yawn, yawn.

It’s All About The Bike – watch the programme instead.

28mm Gatorskins here. Excellent on rough roads, never had an probs in the wet, no punctures (jinx :? ). Might go 25mm next time – if they ever wear out.

Apologies for the hijack but I’ve a 9 speed KMC chain that I want to remove and do not wish to use it again. Will a normal chain splitter tool work? Never used KMC before.

    Thanks.

Yes (I was a bit slow there  )

As already mentioned, splash out on some Lizard Skins DSP, you can find it for around £25 online. Seriously, once you try it you won’t want anything else. DSP stuff is 2.5mm thick, DSP Race stuff is 1.8mm thick.

I did it last year, but stuck to the road, came in at 8 hours riding time. I stopped at Hartside for something to eat then carried on from there to the coast. Wasn’t as bad as I though, only came in around 130 miles or so (Workington to Tynemouth). I stayed overnight in Workington.

I’m doing a 300km Auduax next Saturday, depending on how I feel I may join the road clubs coast-to-coast-to-coast in a day in June. Then again, I probably won’t.

Good time to buy especially as they have their MP3 Crash Replacement for only a £1 (until May 15th). It convinced me I needed* a pair of Ksyrium SLR’s

You are doing the kindest thing you could ever do for your pet, you don’t want him to suffer.

Ask the vet to come out to your house, ours did for us last year, when we had to have both our dogs put to sleep, Molly 7yrs old (2 days after my birthday) – liver tumour and Oscar, 15yrs in November – he’d outlived his body. We were being selfish with Oscar, we couldn’t stand to lose him after unexpectantly losing Molly and I think we both agree now that we should have ‘helped’ Oscar a lot earlier than we did, I feel so bad at not being kinder to him and for being so selfish……………..

Very sad, I have to go now, I think I have something in my eyes..

I did it a few years back.

Terrain wise I wouldn’t bother with your 160mm full bonger. I did it on a steel hardtail with 100mm forks. Loads of fire road trails, bit of peaty singletrack over the border, bit of trail centre at Newcastleton. I remember the route back, a lllooonnnggg fire road climb back along Kershope Burn.

    I enjoyed it.

Didn’t Planet X stop selling their carbon clinchers? Warranty issues?! Or am I making that up!

Saying that, I had a set of their carbon clinchers about 3 years back. Braking was a bit sketchy in the wet (with decent pads – Swissstops). Might want to think about that braking in the wet!

furthest i have ridden is 300km in 16hrs on a audax.
rode it on a specialized sirrius fitted with flat bars, which left me with numb fingers in my right hand, which last for a couple of weeks.

i also seemed to eat for 2 days solid after the event.

Got my first 300km in 7 weeks time, don’t think Im ready for it mind you, i’m starting to get a bit nervous. Most I’ve done in one go is 127 miles (Workington to Tynemouth). Felt ok after it so just thinking it’s going to be psychological…………………………I hope 8O

Yup, add me to the list. Haven’t touched a mountain bike for over 3 years now. Don’t miss it one bit. And I’m Rapha’d up to the max.

    40.

I hit the lack of motivation about 4yrs ago now. Decided to give road riding a go. Now I’m a full time rider of the black top, never looked back. It gave me a new found passion. I’ve never swung my leg over a mountain bike, never mind ride one since. Don’t miss it one bit. Can’t stop hanging around here though, why’s that?

I will be having a go at mountain biking again, in May. But that’s only because I’m treating my (now ex) riding buddy to a 4 wheeled mountain bike Taster day in the Lakes, following his motorbike accident last summer (sadly he’s now paralysed). He can’t wait, but only wants to do it if I go riding with him so I can’t say no. Otherwise I don’t think I’d be back on a mountain bike.

Looks like the only difference for a SRAM chainset is that the BB doesn’t come with BB spacers and there’s a couple of washery-type things that won’t be needed. Have a look here.

I’m using a Rotor 3D with a Chris King BB.

Here’s a pic with the Chris King BB and a Rotor Agilis chainset. The only thing I had to do to fit the 3D was remove the BB spacers.

Got it sorted now, that was very easy!

Now, where do I go for a walk-through explanation of programming a turn-by-turn route. Is there anywhere I can plot it on a map and download it to my gps?

I use FL Green as well, as well as Chain-L. To be honest I think Chain-L is just engine oil, certainly smells like it. Although it does hang around a lot longer, not sure I’ve got the 1000 miles per application though. Clean the chain, apply sparingly, let it soak in then wipe off the excess. It’ll still spray a bit of excess.

Any wet lube is going is going to pick up road crap, just keep it topped up, give it a wipe and leave it till spring before giving it a proper clean.

Whilst you’re here, is it possible to customise the display. I would like to have speed, average speed (can you get average speed??!), trip distance, heart rate, cadence.

Now I know the CTC mag will cover my touring interests, but do like to keep an eye on the pro road racing – the Classics and the 3 big stage races – but procycling mag seems a bit ‘full-on’…so I’m thinking about Rouleur mag, but I’m slightly put off by the price tag and a bit worried it’s a bit too pretentious…your thoughts please! And do they do any new subscriber deals (none on their website)?

Rouleur won’t tick any of those boxes headfirst. I wouldn’t call it pretentious.
If it’s race coverage you’re after then it’s Procycing or Cycle Sport.

Have a look at Peloton (available through WHSmiths).

Another road drive user here. Wished I went for the medium though, the large one sticks a bit too far out of my pocket.

    Quality bit of kit.
