Back to the clean world

Ulnar nerve compression at the elbow, as it runs over the medial epicondyle? Do you sleep with your arm bent? (happens to me, I sleep like I'm in a coffin, with my arms folded across my chest – until I wake up with REALLY numb little fingers)

    Do I win?

Another convert to side of mucho darkness and nice tight lycra.

I got seriously p1ssed off with mountain biking – not the bikes/people etc more the put the bike in the car/drive for at least half an hour/put bike together/go for ride/come back/take bike apart/drive home routine, so rather than stop cycling altogether I sold my mountain bike (and my yr old road bike) and bought a soopa-doopa road bike. Now I’m the same as I was when I first started mountain biking all those years ago, spending all my money on bits then finding nicer bits to buy and so it continues (just got some white tyres to try out – 2nd hand)

I’ve promised myself a year off mountain bikes and to be honest I aint missing them.

I have found that I am hardly ever on STW nowadays, but I’m not a stranger.

Alternatively there’s a guy over on BIKERADAR selling his brand new Planet X SL Pro Carbon frame and forks, a medium, for £300 collected (£315 posted).

Just thinking about some, but probably won’t. Just wanted to know if anyone was using them and what they looked like

But if, as you say, they aren’t grippy, then I definitely won’t be getting any………………………….not unless they make your bike look lush 8)

Sorry to jump on your thread big fella, but has anyone actually put all white tyres on their darkside machine and ride regularly with them?

Just asking as I still can’t decide whether or not to try some (I think they look mad)

    Dude, you’re welcome

You haven’t seen me in lycra 8) I thought you might forget that comment, but then again, with Paul Stewart doing your op you weren’t asleep for long enough for the anaesthetic to have that sort of effect!

Hope your arm was suitably numb after and that you got home that night?

Oh, by the way, did they give you your plaster back? (probably not as it stank  )

Hope you have a speedy recovery and that you’re out again soon.

    All the best fella

Cheers. Wor lass want to buy one of those DIY kits as there’s a small chip on the edge. I’ve tried telling her I’d rather pay a professional to do a bloody good job rather than **** it up and then have to pay someone. But will she be told? will she **** as like…….she knows better apparently

Not had it done, but will be needing it done later this year as we’re fitting an old roll-top bath (it desperately needs re-enameling).

Any chance of some before and after pics please shreck? and details of who’s doing it for you as I’m having difficulty finding someone to do it!

    Cheers

Mountain biking has been a part of my life for so many years, I’ve been lurking around this site for most of those years. I know quite a few people on here and find the discussions (for want of a better word) extremely entertaining.

I may return to mountain biking, but not until next year, I promised myself a full year off from RIDING mounatin bikes as I had become sick of it, it didn’t hold any interest, it still doesn’t, maybe because I’m enjoying my road cycling.

Just because I no longer have ANY interest in mountain biking, doesn’t mean I don’t want to read What’s New etc.

Is that enough of an explanation?

it’s a habit for you, if you’ve been drinking every night, you need to break the habit.
As already mentioned, there are different types of alcoholics, not all of them are constantly pissed.
It’s not just your liver you need to worry about hora, don’t forget your pancreas. You can be very sick with alcoholic pancreatitis (try sedated/ventilated on intensive care needing regular operations to remove bits of dead pancreas). I work in a liver transplant theatre and see LOTS of alcohol related disease, if that isn’t enough to make you drink less/responsibly then you’ve no chance.

    DON’T drink in the house.
ONLY drink if you’re planning a night out (and don’t go out every night either!)
    DON’T drink on your own.

Remember, alcoholics didn’t become an alcoholic overnight, these things creep up on you, then you need it.

(I was in a similar position, relationship problems, regular drinking. Now I only drink if we go out, and NEVER in the house)

Why on earth not 11 given the rest of the kit on that bike?

    Price!

Thanks for the compliments, I absolutely love this bike. I’ve only been out the once on it (work etc), and trying to fettle the Zero G’s. I’m on nights at the moment, but I’m off for 2 weeks as of Monday 8O

Oh, the frame was an Ebay buy, so I didn’t pay anywhere near £2K for it.

I had originally, when I got pissed off with mountain biking, planned to buy a Planet X frame and wheels and transfer all the stuff off my Bianchi road bike. But, “someone” pointed me in the direction of the Parlee on Ebay. I’ve only ever seen one in the flesh before (that was a Z1 though 8)). That’s when I sold my mountain bike, and what initially was supposed to be a £1K spend on frame and wheels has turned into a £2.5K spend. Most of the stuff is off Ebay (frame/forks/headset/Ergo shifter and rear mech), new stuff is wheels/chainset and front mech/ bar tape and cables. Bars and stem were 2nd hand, chain and tyres off old road bike.

Here’s what’s convinced me to give up mountain biking for this year at least (and the need to sell my bike so I could “furnish” it!)

Ignore seat height, the post was just “popped” into the frame to see what it looked like. It’s now complete with bar tape etc (Fizik dual – Mmmm) and the brake calipers have been changed over to some lovely Zero Gravity jobbies. Some “finished” pics when I’ve stopped drooling over it

So here it is, a Parlee Z3, full Campag Record (10 speed) groupset, Schmolke bars, Reynolds Ouzo Pro forks, Syntace post, Tune stem, Zero Gravity calipers, Toupe seat, Look Keo carbon pedals, Planet X pro carbon 50’s (saving for some Lightweights 8))

    Mmmmmmmm 8) 8) 8)

I could take my road bike, point you in the right direction then wait for you at the next available spot. Then again, I’d be itching to get the miles in!

Hey Lee, wait till you see my “new” (to me) road bike, it’ll convert you for sure

There’s some bits at Simonside, sort of a combination of the way-marked trails and local knowledge. If you’re doing Simonside you’re better off combining it with the Carriage Drive (north side of Rothbury) for a decent ride, again local knowledge is best to get the best bits out of both.

Thrunton is a few miles away, best to go there only as opposed to linking it with Rothbury, unless you’re an animal

As for the “hidden trails” at Thrunton, it’s only a rumour, don’t believe everything you read on here

Of course, I’d love nothing better than to provide some local knowledge, BUT, having decided to sell my one and only bike and have a year solely dedicated to munching the tarmac miles, I’m afraid it won’t be me, sorry.

We’ve seemed to have drifted apart too, not sure why.

I now just go out on my own, when I want. If I don’t feel like going I stay in, or if I want a lie in I have one. I’ve also lost a bit of interest (connected? probably) and now find myself drawn to the dark side.

    Miss the company though :(

Any fancy a Billy-No-Mates STW meet? You must come on your own (although shared lifts, arranged pick-ups of “strangers” is allowed

Following on from the_pilot, I bought a 2nd hand Ti frame, a Moots, as I had never tried Ti and was Ti-curious, and it came up for sale just as I had a wad burning a hole in my savings account. Needless to say after a few months the headtube split and cost me a sh1t load of cash to have repaired. Which is now why I have gne back to a nice steel hardtail.

and now have a bad back and am “thinking” about FS :(

    LardLover

I used Parcel2Go when I had to send my Moots back for repair. Think I paid £75 to get it there. Moots sent it back with FedEx, at my expense (around £100 at the time with the exchange rate being good!). That was just a frame though.

If you’re sending it back as a warranty, make sure you say so on the Customs forms. I ended up saying it was a repair (didn’t mention warranty – as it wasn’t!) and had to pay £150 import charges and tax and that was AFTER they delivered it. Tried to say it was warranty work, even got a letter off Moots to say it was (even though it wasn’t) but still had to pay the thieving robbing HMC&R barstewards :( (my fault though).

I thought I’d shift a bit straight off, after going tee-total since the New Year. I’ve done a couple of hard-ish rides (still recovering from that viral flu thing), a quick run last night (couple of miles) and daily core exercises. Cut out all the crap in my diet, no take aways, low fat home cooked grub.

    And still nowt.
