Not a MAMIL, but did enjoy the sportive, and watched people going into Llandegla from the feed stop at the fisheries outside. Sorry to hear you didn’t make it, but glad you had a great day n new trails.

If you go surfing round Santa Cruz you will be in the wet stuff with the sea otters…amazing! There are plenty of hire places and people giving lessons.

I wouldn’t put any helmet in my evoc as it is a soft bag but do just follow the instructions and the bikes (road or mtb) have flown fine everywhere

Having both driven and flown to Alps D’Huez in the last two weeks, also from the north, could I recommend flying, particularly if you have only once person driving. It’s 4 hours to get to the ferry, 2 ish hours on the ferry then 8 ish hours on the other side. Apart from the historical interest of the drive following the line of the western front, it is incredibly boring and expensive. We worked out it would be the same cost as flying, but drove for the megavalanche so we could take tool kit, work stand etc. I remain convinced that flying is the easiest way, plus you can request chains for your hire car rather than buying something you would rarely use in the UK.

We went out a couple of years ago for this

which was great fun if you’re out that weekend. I would definitely recommend a trip to Fruita…we were up to the snow line on some rides, so check in with these guys

    Fruita

for local conditions (also, their ride jerseys have a dinosaur riding a bicycle).

    Do enjoy!

If you’re allowed to get naked in transition, get naked in transition.

Then put some dry warm clothes on. Will take less time than you will lose biking/running cold

I had a very odd encounter on Monday when I was on my way to pick up a friends bike with two bikes already on the roof. 4pm, rush hour, gang of 5 chaps on bikes gawp as I drive past and immediately swing round and follow me. I pull up into work to collect friends bike. Chaps loiter round the entrance, hiding behind trees etc, then when I pull out start following me again.I guess they were trying to follow me home, but I was actually driving to Wales. Unfortunately they gave up after two miles!

    Slightly unnerving…

Second the murder mystery idea- you can buy them off the Internet,or craft them yourself to stitch up your ‘friends’ with their characters! Good excuse for some dressing up and character based.play

I’ve worked in two boarding schools, and I would definitely say go what fits with your kid. If they want to have access to academic staff, libraries and extension activities like star gazing, do eight hours of sport a week, DofE, CCF, music, drama etc then a six day a week, either as a boarder or day pupil is super fun. If the school doesn’t fit for you, it’s pretty hideous. Most of the boarders at the school I’m at now live within 30 miles of school which means they see parents pretty often. I think you get a forces allowance for boarding (regardless of school) which would gives you lots of options (depending on where you live).

It’s a minefield…the longer you can stay away, or in a managed way, the better. However, my experience is that text messaging is worse, especially between girls

Great advice here guys, and lots still to think about. The cost is same, so I’m just really looking to maximise the benefits and get back on my game (in my head at least!) I’m going back to my old stomping ground of Verbier, I did 4 trips there courtesy of my last school so feel reasonably confident about not turning the wrong way off the lift and having a special moment…
Supersaiyan: love the comment about the leather faced (po-faced) euro instructors!

I’ve got the standard 10×10 wound dressings, cohesive bandage, ibuprofen, paracetemol, etc but also carry
little round plasters for my friend with the weak nipples
The ‘smash’ ice packs now you can buy them at the chemist- 2 for £4.50 and ace for head knocks
Spare contact lenses for myself, cause it’s no fun to lose to trail.

Do be careful in future as once you have damaged the nerves (if you have) through frost nip or frost bite it is much easier to do it again with worse consequences. I would definitely suggest some better gloves, and maybe stick some hand warmer sachet things down the back on very cold days

Despite having to do it in French, it was still less painful than entering a rat race event. At least I didn’t have to put my email adress in 5 times!!!
Wouldn’t it be lovely to have a ubiquitous event entry form?

Look at what subjects she really enjoys rather than just doing well at. Sounds like she is in the lovely if awkward place of being good at everything. Is there anywhere your way that offers the IB rather than A Levels, as this could be a good way of keeping options open.
If there are no specific vocational careers she is intent on (medic, vet, engineer etc) A Level choice does not matter so much – most grad schemes across all industries require a 2:1 regardless of subject taken.

I think this is only common in the primary sector TBH. I’ve worked in secondary and it’s very uncommon, or perhaps I’m just a crap teacher!

My other half is away during the week, and it is quite nice as we can both do our own thing/stress about work/see friends then on Sundays and in holidays really enjoy each others company. We haven’t argued since 2004 because we don’t niggle each other over stupid little domestic stuff.
    It’s great.
More on topic- in the evenings he catches up with firends if in London, goes running…or works late so he doesn’t need to on the weekends!

I think the Garmin 110 does do real time pace- it’s just beeps at the end of each mile if you set it up to to give you pace over the last mile as an average as well. All I want to know when I run is distance and time, and it does me well enough for that!

Technically he didn’t bring it back.Whilst he was accompanying a body back to the UK his regiment shipped out. his bags were packed for him and shipped the UK. It is usual for the MP to check for weapons as they pack up- this procedure was not followed which is why he ended up in this predicament.
