Second the follow me tandem, we use it a lot to tow 4 year old on longer rides or up hilly bits. Easily does a moderate off road route to school.
My kids call my bike the tow truck now

We used double chariot with baby 2 from about 3 months with baby insert. Got one for sale if you fancy it as he’s now moved onto the bigger size insert. He loved it, happily snores for 2hr nap in there, moving or stopped.

the insert let’s them lie back and holds the head better

I work in oldham where they generally call a spade a f***ing shovel
My favourites are “it’s cracking t’flags” which I assumed for ages meant it’s windy but turns out means it’s hot so the flags (paving stones) in your garden will crack

And we also liberally use “9 while 3” in meetings which drives our well spoken head teacher round the bend

I like the idea of shining a light onto your own reflective kit. I wondered about this last week when my flashing joystick lit up a builders jacket from about 50m away and basically the whole builder flashed. I’m now wondering about a small battery led on top of my read rack flashing white onto my back?

It is very odd, I ran round there this morning
The road/ bridleway across the golf course has already had some sketchy gravel patching the holes, the bit up the side of the houses towards the cross (strawberry?) seems really odd- idiots will now fly down whereas before it self policed decent riders only or runners- was lightly used in my experience, now likely much heavier use
The bit down the bottom by the railway I have no idea what they’re up to- not tough enough for vehicles to turn on, and surely they aren’t going to go right up the hill? Or right along to roman lakes where there are far worse bits of track

I raced chris hoy and finished before he even got started so I must be quick?
Disclaimer.. it might have been a team sprint and we might have got lapped by him

IT was a lot warmer when we left Edale at 3pm, lot of melting so sloppy tomorrow

I ran in Edale today with the dog. Some sloppy, packed snow/ polished ice. I had artic claw shoes on and wouldn’t have fancied riding most of it. Rushups edge quite a bit of snow still

All good advice above on how to help her- pick one thing to try and do it consistently.
I’m a SENCO at an outstanding primary in the ghetto so my thoughts are
    1. What are school doing to help before they jump on ed psych bus? Do they use task boards, Tick lists, daily checklists, visual prompts etc as suggested above? If not why not! They can’t tell you there’s a problem but not do anything
    2. If they have tried stuff and think there is an issue ie stuff that normally works isn’t then you want a person centred planning meeting with teacher, transition leader, kid, parents and SENCO- to discuss strategies together and develop a Provision map of what helps her (this should go to high school with her) and maybe a one page profile to help with transition
    3. A’s suggested a bit above- ask her what she thinks will help- “what helps you remember at school” etc
    4. Ask wether they plan to apply for extra time in her sats- they might just get away with blagging this if she’s undergoing SEnD support
Until all that is done I wouldn’t worry about the ed psych.- they will only suggest the same sorts of strategies and are really a last resort where everything else has been tried. They can ultimately diagnose/ begin diagnosis of dyspraxia, dyslexia etc but their main role is to give advice to help schools, parents and pupils cope.

If you want more info on dealing with the school email my username @gmail.com – always happy to make fellow union member’s lives harder!

In really cold in Finland I bubble wrapped my batteries, popped a heat pack inside and chucked it all in a dry bag. They worked a treat.

I’d be a bit embarrassed if that was my school. Poorly explained and trying to scare parents into paying a fortune for something the school should be providing- i.e. A proper education
    Throw it in the bin!

Tjagain- my favourite mad mcmata quote was a pundit saying how Exeter (?) signing him to play with their young, upcoming ten was the equivalent of taking the blinkers off your horse during a fireworks display. True. But I still love watching Nico cut loose

As a sale fan who was used to good guys like Hodgson, His Lordship Jason Robinson and the engaging if apathetic at times Chabal I find our latest signing a bit disappointing and yet another reason not to put hard earned cash into funding Steve Diamonds Mere gold club membership or Marlons nights out with Timnie Tempah. Not rugby values

Montsant mountains area in Catalunya has lots of scope. Not snowy I imagine. Easy short drive from Barcelona or Reus airport.

Only issue I find running up there is you can struggle for water top ups

You could also hire kit if you’re only planning on going once? I hired a jacket (Rep£350+) , katoola chains and snow shoes for a fortnight for well under £100

Not cheap but I’ve loved our Topeak seat. Only downside is the racks are not standard racks so don’t take panniers if the seat is off

Ours has taken 2 years of solid abuse and a lbs owning mate bought one even though he doesn’t stock them he was so convinced it was best for the job

    I have orange rx9
It’s ok, but a bit harsh riding especially the forks. Also it’s QR front and rear so depends how you feel about that, and no front rack or fork leg mounts
    Thought about surly straggler?

Interesting you say don’t stop as I was planning short regular breaks. I guess unlike riding you can walk for minimal effort but still make miles

The garage underneath is shared- they have an allocated car space plus space for storage, then in the next room underneath the building they have secure storage space, plus the residents are building a bike store at the moment. Theres also a huge attic room where bike kit etc can be stored.
I can vouch that the garage is solidly built having driven my ti frame into it on the roofrack. The mill won

Coniston shore would be nice, few good pubs for night before too.
Otherwise for a quiet spot the layby where you park to hike to Dulyn bothy is pretty aweinspiring- https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&t=h&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=211585189320309156055.00049f927cc1a241a65dc the start of this route is the layby. Pretty steep though on the way up

From a quick lok at google map and the zigzags in that road I’m guessing a it steep?! Looks on satellite like quite a few unmarked single track lanes which should be good for exploring
Might pack a bike next time we go, thanks

we’re going through the same decision as you at the moment
me and mrs lanky are looking at quashqai (slow, bad reliability in theory- but good space, nice drive), astra estate (had one before as a work car and loved it), some sort of jap 4×4 and all the usual you listed

I really like the position, space etc of the berlingo type but they really aren’t cool are they!? We’re just about to turn 30, no kids, both get well paid, etc and all our mates are getting nice sporty cars (TT, MX5, Carrera, Z5 etc) before they get to the kids stage and have to give them up. We seem to be skipping this and just getting a family car to cart bikes in!

when you say touring do you mean riding round the UK/western Europe- or going on serious tours to developing countries

this dictates whether you need to worry about replaceable parts, brakes- discs v rim replacement, size of tyre, gearing etc.

bar end shifters are very easy to maintain yourself- and on friction mode will run with virtually any rear mech of the same speed as the cassette- e.g. I ran a campag rear mech, shimano cassette and shimano bar end shifter for a couple of years with no issue

also- dont worry about the comfort too much- anything is relatively comfy with 28mm or bigger tyres at the right pressure.

astra is a good shout, don’t know why I didnt think of that- used to have an astra estate and occassionally swapped work cars with a mate for his hatchback astra. nice and fast too from what I remember

I parked next to a nissan cube today in blackburn and chuckled at the thought of trying to get Mrs Lankysprinter to drive one!

Now..can you guess my identity? I give you some clues
I am lanky..though not as much as your good self
    I am a sprinter..of the track variety

Is he marketing through guess houses, hotels or bike shops?
Obvious modelmis increase the price a bit and include it as part of accommodation packages, then the hotel takes 5 or 10 percent for bringing him the riders
Also might be worth investing in a few hire bikes, or getting mtb coach qualified to add on skills training

I’m sure high peak council or someone round there has funding for rural start ups?
