I had some interesting nights out in Accy, usually culminating in the Bees Knees. Sunday seemed to be the happening night for some reason

Mincing Lane was a bit of a mis noma, it is the red light district. Not that I knew that at 17 years old 😳

bloody hell Cougar, i proposed to my wife in the Napier. The Vulcan was stuff of Legend in the 80’s, never went in. I did wander into one of the pubs on the Barbary Coast (?) on Mincing Lane one new years eve, didn’t even make it to the bar.

It really really really, really, really doesn’t matter if the singing isn’t perfect, it is the content and emotion that make a good song/artist. You might as well watch sh1te saturday night talent contests on itv if the quality of the voice is more important.

And no,Kirsy’s version of New England is definately not better than Billy’s

We drove past on the a59 en route to newcastle and police had just blocked that road off. It was still closed when we came back past several hours later so we assumed there had been a fatal accident. Saw many other road riders that must have been on that ride. Bloody awful news.

    Two films that made me laugh and cry in the same instant;
Brassed Off (when stephen tompkinson wheels past on a hospital trolly dressed as a clown, postlethwaite’s speech at the end), plus Life is Beautiful.
The Lives of Others and Atonement

How old are you? As you get older it takes a lot longer to recover, my legs feel like that on 9 out of 10 rides these days (47 yrs)

Tried many potions over the years (mrs lad works for a health/energy food company so was a guinea pig for many of their new products), only thing I can say I felt any difference with was using L Glutamine as a recovery drink. It makes me feel not quite as knackered as normal the day after a ride.
MyProtein can do it cheaper than her company though 🙁

Could it be the book by Simon Reynolds? Or the pinching of the lyricks?

    [Police response varies between constabularies]
It also differs between officers unfortunately. If it was a bobby who understands cycling there is a good chance they would get a section 59 warning (vehicle can be confiscated should there be another report of bad driving). If it was a lazy petrolhead then the Derbyshire response would be likely.

Legally you can’t have a fire within 50 feet (yards?, I should remember but I did this legislation a long time ago), of a highway. Can’t remember anyone ever being prosecuted for it though (apart from that motorway episode), so crack on I say 😀

Steve, I’ve suffered from the same problem on the road bike for years, tried all the socks, boots, overshoes etc with no real improvement. Last year however I tried merino socks, sandwich bag over these, my normal riding shoes (ie summer ones with a bit of room in), but with battery powered heated insoles in. You can get them on ebay for about 20 quid, and the battery packs strap to your calves so wires don’t get in the way. Combine this with neoprene overshoes, and it is by far and away the best solution for me.

Aitch and haitch. Ironically ‘haitch’ only seems to be used by people who think they are being slightly posh by not dropping their ‘aitch’.

My wife grew up in Wiswell and we used to walk through those woods when we were first married. The track would seem to have disappeared a few years ago much to the chagrin of the local yoof.
Unfortunately this happened to quite a bit of the ‘unofficial’ stuff at Gisburn and Jeffrey Hill as well, used to be some great little runs before the logging

Really crap on christmas eve, but have been getting away with a sore throat and a bit of snot since, that horrible tired , weak feeling has gone. Copious amounts of single malt seem to be keeping it at bay 🙂

Kicked into Touch by Fred Eyre. Wonderfully funny little book about a life of rejection in lower league football.

Disappointingly, Billy Bragg’s The Progressive Patriot didn’t do it for me. I sooo wanted to love that book

Really don’t know why people persist with soilskinz, even when fully fitting and untwisted they weren’t any more weatherproof than my cheaper 1 piece Madisons, which always slipped on and off with the ease of quality M and S knickers

Rather embarrassingly did mine coming home from work on my wife’s hybrid in march this year. Bloody hurt at the time and thought i had broken something. A and E told me it was my rotator cuff (which would have been far worse), turned out it was a grade 3 ac injury.
I have to say even though I was in a sling for a couple of weeks and did a few months of painful exercise, I was gritting my teeth through turbo sessions after a month, riding carefully after about 10 weeks. Not so sure surgery is of any more benefit unless you have a 4 plus injury.
