Only cars i have had that never really had any problems are Puntos (so we have had a few), and a Mazda 6 which was great.
Currently have a Scenic and the electrics are made of cheese and spaghetti, other than that it has been mechanically spot on (5 mot’s and not a thing wrong, even though it gets abused).

Anything by Ian Banks, but Espedaire Street as mentioned earlier is very good.
One recommended on here last year, Child 44 is an excellent read.
Atonement by Ian Mcewan (my 3 favourite authors are all called Ian and all Scottish)

I have the deepest sympathy Mrs Toast, I would be mortified if my pride and joy went from the garage.
Just to put some perspective on why you aren’t getting the service you would expect from the police though. Here in Lancashire we have lost 800 officers and can expect to lose up to 1000 more in the future if the government follows through on its promises. Last night you wouldn’t have needed all the fingers on one hand to count the number of officers covering Nelson, Colne, Barnoldswick, Clitheroe, Longridge and all the population in between (that isn’t for each town, that is the total officers covering the full area). It isn’t much better in the daytime, and those officers now work resource to threat, which means they only tend to deal with the more serious, immediate threat type incidents (violent domestics, child abuse and neglect, high risk missing persons, etc), of which there are plenty. The ensuing admin to these is overwhelming and there is precious little time to deal with anything else. We rely massively on PCSO’s, Specials and volunteers, but with the best will in the world they cannot deal with the vast majority of what needs doing.
Back office staff have been similarly slashed, and there aren’t enough people to answer the phones and log the complaints, again emergencies take priority. I know for a lot of folk on here (including myself), having their bike stolen is one of the worst things that could happen to them, but unfortunately this is well down the scale in the grand scheme of things, and in this modern era of savage cuts to public services difficult choices have to be made about what can and can’t realistically be dealt with.
Really do hope you get the bike back

I shall be on the Bowland Brewery double decker bus tonight, 2 quid for a pint of Hen Harrier in happy hour, oh and I will be happy.

Just ditched the full sky package and swapped to bt. Don’t think there will be a huge difference but new customers can get a much better deal than existing so we swapped for a newer box and fibre optic for a lot less than sky would do it for (can’t get virgin round here yet)

Madame Butterfly or Carmen would be my recommendations. I would suggest listening to them several times before you go, difficult to ‘get’ it the first listen (don’t get one with Maria Callas singing, she was pretty ordinary and massively over hyped)

Saw Neville Staple at the Grand in Clitheroe the other week, pretty good but not a patch on the full line up at The Apollo, Manchester.

At a wedding a few years ago at The Shireburn in hurst Green, at the time I was a vegetarian and there were veggie meals available.
Young waitress brings chicken to me as my main course. ‘I’m a vegetatrian’ says I.
‘Yes I know, it’s chicken’ she replies. I repeated the fact I was vegetarian and she replied as though talking to a 4 year old, ‘Yesss, it’s chicken’

Correct Ninfan. Not moaning (well suppose i am), but it would be nice to be given the choice whether to work on or not (includes many cancelled weekends, last minute shift changes etc). Our regulations say we have to do as we are told (illegal not to), but have absolutely no mechanism to protest

I am expected to be at work 15/20mins before the start, work the first extra hour for free before overtime kicks in, and have no choice but to stay at work if I am told to do so,(this usually occurs after midnight at weekends, quite often into a day off), as I have no employment rights.
I still just about enjoy the job though.

Took our dog to the Boot and Shoe in Greystoke, just off the A66 10 mins out of Keswick a couple of years ago. Rooms are ok ish but it is a nice traditional style pub and the food is good.

Globalti, make that three officers for the whole of Pendle (nelson, colne, clitheroe, longridge, barnoldswick etc). There haven’t been three officers on duty in the Ribble Valley at night for a long time.

Possibly inundated, i only know 2 people with Capra’s and they have both had problems with the e13’s. Don’t think it is a difficult issue to resolve though

It is a difficult one. As police we are expected to maintain the Queens Peace, and sometimes force is used that the wider public may see as excessive, but is often justifiable in the wider context. We were criticised in equal measures at the last set of major riots for doing too much/not doing enough from both sides. I’m not suggesting there aren’t people with a more relaxed attitude to violence in my job than myself, and sometimes i am not comfortable with the eagerness of some officers to arrest, but I can tell you it is a very fine line to tread, and the vast majority of people i work with are incredibly caring and hardworking.

Conventional wisdom used to be a narrow bity tyre on the rear for muddy/wet conditions, but i had a go with a 2.4 on the rear on a steep wet climb recently and it was great.

My riding buddy has one, he loves it but as mentioned earlier he has had problems with the e13 hubs, plus a rather nasty crack developing on the top tube where it fell over onto a weight stack.
I had a quick go on it the other week and i nearly made it up to the top of the monster field on Whins Fell in the Trough of Bowland, which is normally only doable in the dry (for me). I would have made it if only it had a triple 🙁
