Jaffjoff, take your road bike and head straight out of the front door. It is only half a mile of riding but it is as steep as you like and the views from the top over the Trough are spectacular. Alternatively take the proper bike up Salter Fell which is about 10 mins drive away

Had the velcro thing on my arm as well but was given to me by a physio friend and she had to place the pressure point quite carefully for it to work. Cheap but needs some advice

Best of luck with the recovery Mike. Don’t worry about rushing back to full fitness, you’ve got many years ahead to still mash it up. As Mrs INVG says, really take your time with recovery, you still have nigh on 20 years of quality biking left, 6 months is nothing in the grand scheme.

Just as a flip side to this my son turned 14 this week. Last year he played cricket at school, district and county level, played footy for the school team who got to english schools semis and won the lancashire cup, captained badders team who are in their regional finals tomorrow.
Whilst I think sport is very important, he missed a ton of school days last year, and the school were more than happy to let him have representative time off. Myself and missus Lad are a little concerned and will be cutting the jollies down for him this year.

Mountain Kings tried to kill me on every vaguely damp summer ride I went on (I do live in lancashire which could be deemed to be unsuitable for anything other than mud tyres all year round).
Love my Conti Grand Prix road tyres though.

My wife has been on this medication for some years now, she hasn’t suffered the tiredness per say that you have, however she does fall asleep very easily, especially after alcohol.

I’m not racist but I have south african friends. Unfortunately they are white ones so do nothing for my racial credibility.
I happen to have the misfortune of being born in Blackburn and was discussing the large asian population with my south african friend who referring to a picture of an asian in the lancashire evening telegraph said ‘that’s not a blick, this is a blick’ and proceeded to show me a picture of an afro carribean male in his encyclopedia.

MSP that was a quality little giggle you gave me there. Having said that tonight’s programme was a little like the arts and humanities teachers were taking the pe lesson. Can’t begrudge the ginger one his win and underneath all that awkwardness you have to love him. God knows where 2nd and 3rd came from though

In every shop, workplace, takeaway etc. i happen to wander into. ‘He’s here, he’s come for you’.
Feels like i’m living in a Peter Kay joke sometimes.

Foreign language film but well worth persevering with
the subtitles; Life is Beautiful is the happiest sad film you will ever see

Friends of mine have just opened Beacon Bikes in Whalley, Lancs. The bikes are quite striking looking and they are ex GB track team mechanics and currently mechanic for Rapha Condor, so you are going to get spot on advice on sizing etc. Worth a look if you want something a bit different from the norm.

Have to say Life is Beautiful makes me cry every time i watch it, superb. Another Italian film I loved was Il Postino.
Probably seen by most but Memento and The Machinist are thought provoking and very watchable, plus I’m a big Ian McKewan fan and I thought Atonement was a great film.

I’ve still got a t-shirt from a gig at the Ritz in Manchester circa 1988. That was £5 well spent.
Love his early stuff but didn’t really buy anything after Workers Playtime, might give the new album a try, what is the name of it gents?

My wife went to a Deacon Blue concert when younger. She had the decency to tell me before we got married giving me the chance to opt out. It was a close run decision.

No glorious manx missile on the final day, no sideburns, no post stage expletive honesty, no disobeying team orders, I’ve just got back from work and haven’t seen the podium speech yet but i bet they didn’t sell many raffle tickets. Difficult to live up to last years tour in my eyes, but the coach driver and the Italian dog did liven it up a bit.
Having said that I’ve already picked a spot near Silsden for my tent next year, can’t wait 😀

I put that in my post then deleted it. Even worse, he has cousins in this situation (he and his wife are teachers by the way)

Muslim friend of mine takes his family there for a holiday every year. He tells me there are many Pakistani/Bangladeshi there that leave their country for the promise of a decently paid job. When they arrive they have to hand their passports over for 5 years so cannot leave, and get used as slave labour on the construction sites, living conditions are appalling.

This is Ben, 8 years old and still waiting for him to come out of his puppy phase. Poor thing had to have his tail docked recently because he wagged so hard it kept splitting on the end.

Japanese rather than German i would say. Mazda 6 estate has a huge boot, had one up to 140k and not a single problem, really regret selling it for a Renault.

If you go out of the school hols it is a wonderful place, fabulous beach looking over to Snowdonia. If you go in the hols it will be jam packed with WAFIDS as my merchant navy captain uncle calls them (wind assisted **** idiots). There are many pretty coves and beaches within a half hour drive so you can go to a different beach every day. If you don’t mind a 40 minute drive you can go to Coed Y Brenin or have a pootle up Snowdon. The weather there tends to be pretty good too.

    Where you thinking of staying?

Have to agree with Bigyinn, I’m not sure what this fascination is with asking what the law is in these videos,it’s as though if the officer can’t rhyme off chapter, verse and maybe throw in a stated case, then the annoying little oik can’t be prosecuted.

Don’t tar us all with the same brush, neighbourhood police in the Ribble Valley spent a lot of time and effort recently trying to house/clothe/feed a male and female who were homeless and begging recently, and received criticism for not moving them on from many quarters. Criticism just goes with the territory i’m afraid

Blencathra is a great walk, but only do the Sharp Edge route if neither of you is bothered by heights. Stayed at the Boot and Shoe in Greystoke up the A66 from Keswick but just 10 mins drive from Blencathra, great food and beer, rooms ok.
More expensive but along similar lines of a proper pub is the Queens Head at Troutbeck and you aren’t a million miles away from Helvellyn and surrounding mountains. Tower Banks as mentioned above is good too
