I’ve been into mountain biking for about fifteen years am of Pakistani heritage and a Muslim complete with foot long beard and have rode every major trail centre in the UK . I’ve always found folk from the MTB community to be really decent and have never faced any animosity or prejudice whilst out riding so hopefully this is a one off. With regards to his views I think the guy just said what he felt and there’s nothing wrong with that. Only problem is socially its not acceptable to say certain things and although some people will engage in a debate others will just mock and jest cos it’s easy to gang up just as it is in a kids playground. I was recently watching a football match seven a side type when a dog just peed through the wired fencing all over the players gear that included their drinking bottles. My twopence worth as a Muslim ;

All Muslims have to fast except in certain conditions. Your sick , pregnant, travelling you don’t have to in fact for the latter two it’s forbidden. If your long term sick ie diabetic or of old age you don’t fast. In this scenario you pay a donation to feed the poor and impoverished. Everybody else who misses any fasts has to make them before the next Ramadan so basically you have a year to catch up. Muslims don’t just fast in Ramadan you can fast throughout the year these are known as optional fasts and are recommended for Mondays and Thursdays. Again these aren’t compulsory but highly recommended for health and wellbeing. So yes they were there well before 5/2 was ever heard of.

So the last Ramadan in 2015 was the longest I’ve known it since I was a child but the fact is you adapt and you learn. You learn how to manage your time and sleep. You learn that food isn’t the be all and end all. You learn which foods are good full of nutrients and you manage with less. If you have the time watch this video

+1 for Brentacre. Got my van and car insured through them and as mentioned above good friendly service. I live in an area where crash for cash has screwed premiums but they were very cheap.

I live in the same locality Rick and have seen similar sights but one incident was quite enlightening. A few years ago I saw two blokes on brand new Whytes a 146 and a T120s. To say they suited those bikes is an understatement so I stopped as a fellow cyclist and had a chat . They insisted they had bought both bikes from the LBS and were planning on riding to Scotland. Seemed bizarre but a few months later I mentioned it to one of the lads at said shop who confirmed their story. He told me the two chaps had come in looking for a test ride to which his response was put £5k in my hand and you can to which they then responded by giving him £5k and taking a spin round the car park and then buying the bikes. He even told me that both had been picked up by the Police and brought to the shop to confirm their story as well. So as they say never judge the book ……..

This has happened to rwo people I know within the last year but they managed to recover the vehicles themselves. One of them was my nephew who is a self employed cleaning contractor. He’s woke up to find his Mercedes Vito together with equipment and materials gone off his driveway. He’s informed the police but at the same time his wife’s put out the word on Facebook with pictures of the van. A friend of hers spotted it on the way to work parked up and as he had a spare set of keys he managed to get it back.

Might need resetting with an OBD type tool/software.
