i’ll only be using it on the laptop so hopefully wont have that problem.

If it wasnt for the ipad issue how would you rate it?

What sort of workouts are you doing on it? I’ve read you can join multiplayer ‘races’ but do you have to ‘book’ onto these in advance? Can you just race against computerised opponents at anytime you want if you dont want to race against other actual people?

I did think it would be good to try some of the famous tour de france climbs… but then i realised some of these (eg mont ventoux) would take me a while to do (ie more than an hour) so might not be that good on a turbo trainer.

I suppose with the 30 day free trial i can find all this out for myself, just wanted a bit of info first to see if its a possibility before i get the trial.

Did you buy yours direct from Bkool? I wonder how flexable they are on price after the free trial as they are selling it direct for £469, but available on wiggle for £343, so if i say i’m going to return it as its cheaper elsewhere i wonder if would they match the price.

sorry another question in the quest for the ideal weight caravan!

Can anyone give me a rough idea of the extra payload weight a family of 4 would be carrying on holiday?

I’ve no idea of this so am guessing maybe 400kg (but thats including the weights of the rest of family as well, dont need to include mine as thats already added into the cars ‘mass in service’?) We’d probably not bother with a leisure battery and only take one gas cylinder.

    2 adults, 1 toddler, 1 baby.

mark90 – thanks that made it clearer now. Yeah 1300 will be too much so will look at some smaller ones.

hmmm i’m getting confused again now :?

    caravan club say “

Legally, if you add together the Maximum Authorised Mass (MAM) of your car and the MTPLM of your caravan, the total weight must not exceed the GTW of the car.”

Which is what mark90 said above.

But for my car GTW (3065) – MAM car (2065) = 1000kg left to cover the MTPLM of caravan.

Now theres only couple of small lightweight 4 berths i’ve seen (Elddis Xplore 340 – MIRO 908kg, MTPLM 1069, and Adria Sportline DS – MIRO 920, MTPLM 1100)

But as the MTPLM is over 1000 for both of these, i’d not be able to tow them.

Haven’t seen any lighter 4 berths.

Is my understanding of the limits correct?

    So another question!

I checked the VIN sticker in the car today and the V5.

V5 is fairly obvious and matches the car brochure:
    max permissable mass 2065
    mass in service 1624
    max towable mass 1300

But the Vin plate has 4 weights on with no explanation. They are, in order:
    2065kg
    3065kg
    (1) – 1170kg
    (2) – 970kg

Theres no explanation of these weights in the manual so anyone know what they mean

Anyone know? I’m guessing the highest must be the Gross Train Weight?

    Thanks for the replies.

So basically caravan MTPLM must be less than the lowest figure of either max towing weight or 85% (ideally) of kerbweight? And MTPLM plus kerbweight of car can’t exceed 3500kg

Another question as well, for a novice tower what sort of total car + caravan length would you go for? Some of the vans look pretty long to me! Need a 4 berth van, 2 adults, 2 young kids.

Berlingo is 4.38m according to brochure specs

    Berlingo xtr 1.6 hdi 115.

    I’ve got
    mass in service 1624
    Max laden weight 2065
    Max braked trailer weight 1300
    max nose weight 70

That Ivar looks great, we’re looking for a stove too and am tempted by that. Can’t find much info on the Web about them though.

Twinw4ll – I’m guessing by the name you might be in the stove trade?! Have you any info / experience with DG stoves? Only info I could find was from a site called stovefittersmanual
and he reckons it’s the best stove he’s seen! But not sure if that’s an unbiased opinion or not!

But if a system is completely anonymous, doesn’t it risk being abused by people with a gripe or unsubstantiated claims? Just curious – never worked anywhere where such systems were available

it will be fairly easy to see this is a genuine case once its pointed out how he’s working the system, and who should have a chat with who

should add part of the reason i’m a bit paranoid is that he is also involved to some degree within that governing body, and is also quite computer skilled hence worried about my identity or location able to be accessed by him

I’ll have a look at those links thanks.

Does my IP change if i reboot my router or is it always the same?

Or are there any websites i can use as a ‘portal’ to mask this, and fill out form through them?

Was wanting to do this from home as its a bit of a lengthy proceedure to provide all the details. I guess to be ultra safe i could pop into a wifi cafe or somwhere to do it.

Sorry about sounding a bit paranoid!

i had a specialized warranty claim on a frame a few years ago, had bought it from a shop about 90 miles away.

Went into lbs and offered to pay the labour rate if they would send the old swing arm off + refit new one. They were happy to do this after i mentioned i’d pay the labour charge , but were a bit reluctant until i did offer.

obviously if its swapping a complete bike over then labour charge might be a lot more :|

EDIT – just remembered the lbs at that time was one i rarely used, i have had a couple of rear shocks replaced under warranty on that same frame at another lbs i use a lot and they didnt charge me a penny. So i guess it may depend how good a customer you currently are at the shop.

Shepherds bush market, Hammersmith & city line, with TWO yes TWO trips up and down the escalators at Paddington on the way.

Might be a controversial move but it’s still before 1am so the Lord Wimberry 1903 amendment can be played.

sorry bits on the brake blocks not the caliper.

i did wonder if they were wheel guides but couldnt really see them making that much difference especially when you can use the littllever to open the caliper up.

I have thoughts like that every so often. It’s the thought of family / relatives / close friends having to deal with it that always stops me. Not sure of your circumstances, but another thing I sometimes think of is that it’d be such a waste to do anything until I had completely blown all my assets / savings on the best biking road trip ever!

Sorry this might sound like a daft reply but they are the things that go through my mind when I feel I can’t take any more.

Hope your ok mate, things often seem better even just the next day.

has anyone had any work done through the Green Deal system at the moment?

Who did you use for the assessment, did you use the company doing the work, and how do you pick a company for the work? Is it just a case of picking one off the internet?!

Stoner, – who did you use for the external insulation

With internal, can you just do a couple of rooms, or does it have to be all the rooms or does this cause problems with other areas of the house? We have a few that lose heat a lot quicker due to their position and construction.

ah i was told that they only work in max condensing efficiency when the return temp was cool enough to allow the exhaust gasses to condense on the return pipework. If its too hot they dont condense.

Can’t see why it wouldn’t be safe, but then I’m not an electrician. If heater meets relevant IP protection and also has rcd should be fine if socket in next room. Might not meet current regs though!

i looked at bike computers with thermometers a couple of years ago, theres a couple around (cant remember names though, maybe one of the cateye ones), but the ones i saw had the temp units linked to the distance units, ie you could only have degrees C with distnce set to Km, or F with miles, and as i cant work in F or KM i didnt bother getting one.

If this bothers you, worth downloading the manual for it before you buy.

totalshell – where are you looking at tanks? All the sites i’ve looked at so far are over 1k for a 2000l bunded tank

Pigface – do you work in tank replacement / clean up? Whats best these days for replacement, plastic or steel? Most seem to be plastic so i’m guessing steel is falling out of favour?

the yearly mileage thing with diesels vs petrol is a not the best way to look at it. I mean you could only be doing 9000 a year, but if you keep the car for 10 years thats 90k, which should be well past the break even point for petrol vs diesel

Look at the total mileage over the life you will keep the car rather than just the per year figure.

ive got a lower air control (ie air up through the grate) as well as a top one, so i could always leave the lower one open? (says in manual just for initial lighting when using wood). Probably wont give such good control though.

I’m getting a bit tired of sourcing / chopping / stacking firewood / waiting for it to dry hence tempted by dirty old coal!

am taking the forks off when bike is upside down, and not draining the oil (well unless i make a complete cock up of it!).

Just need to know the amount to put in when you stick the lowers back on after cleaning the seals but no oil change. Iirc its only a small amount, 5ml sounds right.

Lowey – just wondering which ones from B&Q is best as they do Lafarge multi purpose ready mixed concrete and a Lafarge postcrete.

Its for a quick and dirty fix for some posts in a waterlogged hole (i dont have a pump to get all the water out, and it keeps partially filling up with groundwater from the base)

I suspect there’ll be too much water in the hole for the ideal mix so was wondering which of the two works slightly better if theres more water than ideal.

I think the postcrete sounds best as goes off quicker, just wondered if there were any differences apart from the acccelerant that make this or the normal stuff any stronger.

Mc Moonter, is that just in the summer or is yours heated as well?

Ok i’ll abandon the potatoes and carrots, so out of all the sugggestions so far which are the easiest?

Should i be planting any seeds now, or is it better fo a novice to get the little plants in the tiny plastic pots from the garden centre and start growing from these (more expensive i know).

i tested mine the other day on some concrete blocks and some old bricks, seems to work fine (was an 8mm bit). Obviously not as good as my corded hammer drill, but would be ok for lighter jobs in brick / concrete.

ply it is then – i was vaguely remebering something about mdf dust being toxic as i typed the post.

Did think of a dremel type thing but a bit too expensive, and i fancy doing it by hand.

i’ll have a good look at all the joints tonight before the heating heats up and bleed all the radiators then keep an eye on the pressure before ringing him back.

How do those auto vent things work? Just looked like a lump of brass with a black plastic ‘bung’ in the side and a little plastic screw cap on the top (which was loose, i assume this is to let it auto vent?)

If he races then he has a point.

no he doesnt race, we just ride for fun in a group, so my reckoning was that having a heavier full sus would initially mean you were slower than the rest of the group, but would put in more effort to keep up with them and over say 6 months you’d be keeping up with them again no problem… assuming they didnt suddenly start upping their own pace all the time!
