geetee1972, cheers for taking to time to explain it, I can have a go at changing the low speed compression and the air pressure in the Talas forks as a first step.

ralph, care to give me some pointers, I'm no MTB expert so I don't know much about judging how it rides, why do you think it looks horrible to ride?

The stem is very short, yes, it was bought to fit a budget, tbh it is the first thing that I was thinking of changing but don't know how long to go, is there a rule of thumb for calculating stem length?

Check your door hinges make sure they can't be unscrewed from the outside. If they are normal wood screws (no matter how big) replace a least one on each hinge with a bolt right through, preferably a security type

I'm surprised that I haven't been severely berated for not having my tire logos lined up 8O

The hustler looks like a nice mix of weight and travel, I ended up getting the G-Spot as the frame was a bargain.

CRC have the 2009 hustler frame in the sale at the moment

It's OK slide handles are electrified (at mains voltage) to stop kids using it :D

I'm using flow rims with non tubeless High Rollers with sealant and yellow tape and they are staying up fine, in fact seem to hold air better than my tubed tyres!

Actually I'm in Swindon, (don't ask) but still too far for you to pop over and use my compressor

Another vote for wheelpro (Roger Musson) I got a pair of flows of him and not only was his price very good but the service is excellent.

out of interest I weighed the front last night and with a 2.35 High Roller and 203mm rotor in tubeless form it weighs 4.5lb which seems OK bearing in mind that my XT/mavic xc717 with a 2.1 panaracer tire and only 160mm rotor weighs 4lb

When I asked the same question about my Pro II with Flow rims  the general consensus was Shimano skewers, so I got a pair of XT's

Thanks for the responses, it's reports like Grantway's that worry me, have Fox changed the TALAS system (internals) since 2008?

Jamie, chalk and cheese, the other forks you refer to were 3 year old ones on ebay where the description was a bit vague, I'm now talking about new, shop (albeit web store) bought forks.

6" is too much for UK xc, really?

I thought bikes like the Specialized Enduro were classed as "all mountain" that has 6" travel, would you say this bike is not for UK xc riding then?

I'm not criticising your comment would just like to know more of your reasoning.

Sorry I'm talking for a type of riding/terrain not for a frame.

I don't think it helped that I was using non UST tires and they were 2nd hand so sent through the post half folded and half coiled up.

    UPDATE –

Terribly, the seller had a serious accident and was unable to ship the forks so they have chosen to cancel the sale and refund my money, so I'll never know what condition they were.

Oh well back on the search again, this time with a little more knowledge and restraint.

Hi righty, mine has a separate filter but when I removed the wing nut and cover it is empty, no element (i.e foam or paper) is yours the same?

I ended up going for the set that bigdugsbaws was selling, they arrived today and are exactly as described.

Don't know if you can provide feedback on here somehow but bigdugsbaws (Dougie)was great, fantastic communications, items sent recorded B4 1pm and a pleasure to deal with.

    Thanks Dougie.

Well I had a go last night with my floor pump and had no joy what so ever, BUT I think the 'smart' head on the pump is cr@p, which didn't help matters.

I actually find this thread quite interesting, as a people watching experiment, to see different peoples take on things.

    My original post was to gauge the costs of various things like;

    new seals £x
    Full service by Mojo/TFTuned £y
    New crown and stantions £z00
    etc.

I've not heard back from the seller so I don't know if that is good/bad or indifferent.

But I agree that this thread has kind of run its course (unless someone actually has the costs I am interested in).

    Can a thread be closed?

chakaping: I'm not trying to back out because I think I've over paid, I'm trying to avoid the time/cost/hassle of sending them back (which I don't think I can actually do all I can do is raise a claim under paypal buyer protection) if they are not as described.

My email to the seller is giving them an opportunity to examine the forks and his description and say "actually I have missed out of the description that the forks are cracked and stantions damaged, so lets just withdraw the sale"

I've just got a set of hope hoops with flow rims from Roger Musson (wheelpro) the price was great (better than CRC I think) that's including Roger tweaking them, I haven't tried mounting tires yet, hope to do this tonight.

I'll report back after I've tried.

Hora, that's exactly what I'm trying to do, I'm glad you understand me. :D

I'm happy to pay the winning price if I can slap them on my bike head off down the nearest hill and not have them explode half way down!

    Lakes_Puma
    Full Member

Thanks for your input Hora, as for the price that's my tough luck for not researching the market, and I am prepared to pay the price, if they in good working order, which means no talas creep.

The main thing is I wanted a 160mm fork so if they are indeed only 150mm as some people seem to think then they are not at all what is described or what I wanted.

    Lakes_Puma
    Full Member

Sorry, the thread has kind of gone off topic, what I was really asking is what can mojo do within a reasonable cost?

e.g. how much can be repaired/replaced before it's costing more than a new fork?

    Lakes_Puma
    Full Member

Ok Cynic-al, you are probably right, I wouldn't be in my rights to send it back, I'm not sure how the distance selling law applies to eBay sales, but I would certainly be in my rights to file a complaint with eBay and start their resolution proceedings.

But I'm not trying to get out of the sale, if the item is as described then I'll be more than happy.

Not sure why I am the one being attacked if ( and only IF ) the seller has lied in his description?
