I’ve walked through with my bike on quite a few occasions, but no cycling apart from (I think) under 5s.

I hate to think how many car loads we took to the tip when we moved a few months ago – but t’other half had lived in the same house since he was 8. We then had to do the whole house emptying thing all over again as my mum died recently.
I am now pretty ruthless about not keeping stuff “just in case” !!

I was told many years ago by an army medic to use ice for all insect bites/stings that swell up.

Living out on the eastern edge of the country, my only option with a decent signal is EE. However, I cannot recommend them, I think they know they have the best signal in the majority of areas and therefore don’t need to give good customer service.

I presume you mean you’re not very intelligent as opposed to just intelligent?

Good grief, they’re so ugly, you’ll never find homes for them. Would you like me to take them off your hands? Please??

I was on a flight to Canada, when I realised the cabin was going a bit “hazy/smokey”. As it got a bit worse, the whole plane went silent, very eerie. I was quite calm, thinking that if the plane’s on fire, there’s very little that could be done, and this was it. The flight attendants then appeared and started going up each row speaking to passengers, which also didn’t fill me with confidence, but I eventually found out they were saying the air conditioning unit had failed and we weren’t going to die after all, just maybe get a bit warm!. Phew! never have I felt such a sense of relief.

But in the words of Brucie ‘You’ve all done very well’

Tsk, you youngsters, you know nothing, that was young Mr Grace in Are You Being Served. Brucie did “didn’t they do well?”

My old Edge 800 with Ordnance Survey maps will give you a route to a postcode or address, do the new models not do the same?

just make sure you check coverage for the cheap networks. I tried giffgaff and so many places were a rubbish signal compared to EE.

A bit of cling film around the edges? I’ve used it in the past to stop the paint being pulled off and it seemed to work.

Cambridge isn’t near Boston, or are you talking about a Boston in some foreign country, not the Lincolnshire one down the road from me?

I miss my Dad’s terrible sense of humour – although fortunately my son does seem to have inherited that. Also his ability to “bodge” things from whatever was at hand. This is what I’ve happily inherited from him. Give me some old bits of wood, and I’ll bodge it into whatever is needed. I’m quite proud of my two wood stores and the 2-boat rack made from bits of our old sheds.

We removed the slotty/locky-inny things one at a time to see which one was stopping it locking. When we found the culprit, we just left it off!

And I’ve just ordered some of that Doublebase gel. I’m now trying a Brooks saddle, which actually seems quite good. I fear my issues may stem from being overweight though, which is difficult, I need to ride to lose weight, but can’t ride too far cos I’m too heavy!

I wouldn’t recommend a double airbed – every time one person moves, the other one will get bounced around!

If money is an issue (although I doubt it, this is STW after all), have a look at Dawes. My 7 year old nephew is now on his second (or is it his third, not sure) and they seem pretty good bikes for not a lot of money.

Not sure if they’ve changed the design of rainlegs, but the straps round the back of your legs used to wick the water, or it ran along them, therefore wetting the back of your shorts.

How about my favourite Sprayway all day rainpants? Stretchy, not sweaty, but not bike specific, so you’ll need trouser clips at the ankles! I used them all the time for cycling when I had no choice but to be out in the rain, and loved them.

I compared my 310xt to my 800 a while ago, but only for distance. Both read much the same, but the Vivosmart I was also trying was short on distance every time. The 310 and 800 using 1 second data recording, but the Vivosmart doesn’t, so every time you stop it takes a few seconds to start again. I think the 610 is 1 second recording, so should be accurate for distance.

More here today too, little feckers were hatching while we were working the other side of the conservatory, they knew we couldn’t see them.

This probably won’t help unless you can find a secondhand one, but I bought a Trek Mynx SL a couple of years ago, and it is really, beautifully light and easy to ride, and came in a large frame – I’m only 5′ 8″ but have a 33″ inside leg, so struggle to find something I don’t feel “perched” up high on. That feeling really doesn’t help with confidence!

You looked at them and their shit bikes and realised this Critical Mass nonsense was the only time their bikes saw the light of day

Of the many people I know who took part, their bikes were in fact used daily.

I probably did two critical mass rides when I lived in Manc, but decided that it did indeed not really endear cyclists to the general public. I don’t think antagonising motorists is the way to encourage more cycling.

Edit – does having taken part make me a cockwomble?
