The one term that took me aback a little was being addressed as “my queen” in Merseyside a couple of years ago – actually I quite liked that, much better than “me duck” where I used to live.

My kids had a Granny & Grandpa, and a Grandma & Grandad – chosen by each set of grandparents – worked out nicely I thought!
    I personally can’t abide a grandmother being called ‘nanny’ – that’s a hired help!

Joined the road challenge again – my personal target is to get (a little bit) closer to trio25’s total!

I’ll settle for 14th then, and 2nd female (there’s no way I’ll ever beat trio25!)

    Alpkit down?
Although down may not be the best choice in the damp British climate.

Sigh, the usual misconception from somebody who probably doesn’t use down for anything other than going to the paper shop, i have used down sleeping bags and down vests in numerous mountain marathons in very wet conditions, perfectly fine, keep it as dry as possible and it will be no problem at all.
I’ve used down sleeping bags for years, and currently the only other thing I have is a down gilet – I always keep them in dry bags in my bike panniers, and, as you say, no problem at all, but you do need to be careful with them.

Jam ‘n’ cheese sandwich – home-made of course – so not a lot of pennies.

Lid down of course – it’s feng shui innit? Something to do with cash flowing out and down the pan, or some such similar rubbbish!

Personally, I love the “off” button, although I do confess to having recorded Casualty.

I have Gary Glitter’s autograph (from many, many, many years ago) – would it be worth anything if I sold it do you think?

Don’t think so – how could a buffalo save our sun?

    What has happened?

I dunno, but it sounds like someone may be trying to turn the sun off, and Bill is gonna stop them. Hurrah for Bill 😀

Who is Bill? And how can he save our daylight?

And this is the reason I don’t like trail centres – they’re not meant to be racetracks.

Savings? I’d like enough money to be able to have the heating on.

*is happy not to be living in an old house or caravan anymore*

I know what you mean – I lived in a camper van for two years – I needed two duvets and two hot water bottles in the winter.

Time to fill the hot water bottle and get under the duvet I think.

Mmm, looks nice – but only up to a large? No “real woman” sizes?
Wonder why most cycle clothing designers think women over a size 14 don’t cycle?

Is someone giving away hugs? I’ve not had one for a long time 🙁
And I don’t care if my hair gets messed up.

If you want cheap, try places like Mountain Warehouse and Dare2B. I started off wearing padded undershorts under ordinary shorts or trousers, but I’ve always had a good breathable waterproof jacket.
As for the above mention of chamois cream – never used it, and I often cycle over 100 miles a week. Maybe I’m, errrm, “hardened off” down there 😕

Edit: would she fancy a cycling skirt? I wear em all the time – I’m not showing off my arse in lycra!

My 91 year old mother recently gave her old maxi skirt to my 28 year old daughter – fashions just keep coming around again.
I’ve not done maxi dresses this time round – just don’t seem practical on a bike somehow.

Nice – I wanna live there. Is there a lift do you think? My knees may not like all the steps I imagine are in there.

Oh dear – I drove to the supermarket this morning, only about 1.5 miles, but I did need a lot of stuff. I reckon I’ve made up for it this afternoon by cycling the longer (7.5 miles each way) route to the office to pick up paperwork for next week.

Do you use a gas fire in that room? I’ve found a lot of plants don’t like that.

Thanks Project (knew you’d pop up soon!) but that doesn’t show the proposed “y” routes north of Brum where the west goes to Mancland and the east line goes to Leeds – it’s the east one that may affect them.

My parents are somewhat concerned that their idyllic country cottage will be ruined by the Birmingham to Leeds route, although at 91 and 87 years of age, it may not actually be built in their lifetimes. May mess up my inheritance though 🙁
There seems to be very little info about this section of the proposed route – I can’t find any maps.

I would like to be the person who rides our local bridleways to make sure they are still there, sort of like a security guard, in case anyone steals them. Obviously they would need to be checked regularly and this would mean riding my bike offroad every day. I could also inspect cafes to make sure their tea and cakes were up to the mark.

Sometimes my job does actually include doing similar – if I’m leading a ride, my colleague and I have to go and ride the route beforehand, and of course risk assess the cafes or pubs 😀

You reckon those that don’t ride will admit to it?
I spend most of my life on a bike – or it feels that way.

    1. Try to beat the 4,000 miles of cycling done this year
    2. Try to get slimmer – lost 1.5 stone this year
    3. Try to find room to put all my clutter away in a very small flat
    4. Try to stop smoking – again!
    5. Try not to sound too desperate about finding a man – after all I’ve managed without one for many years.

Note all the above begin with “try” – I don’t expect success in everything or indeed anything.

It’s so hard to quit – been there, done that, but smoking again. You have to really be in the right frame of mind to stop – and I’m not there at the moment. The thought is always at the back of my mind, and I know one day I will quit again, so I don’t beat myself up about it.

What I want to know is , how the hell would she go on if she needed a pee mid ride? (and I mean bike ride)

A damn fine reason NOT to wear bibs. Whoever thought they were a good idea?

    Does she ride mtbs?
There are many group rides where women are in the minority.

The problem with that is a lot of blokes don’t want to spend time waiting for a lady who is somewhat slower than them 😳
