Almost a year since I quit. The thing that helped me was herbal tobacco – no, not that sort, but the stuff you can buy from Holland and Barrett. You can still join your mates for a fag, but yours contains no nicotine 🙂

I know I get it cos I’m too fat, but knowing that doesn’t help when I inhale the acid reflux stuff in the middle of the night – half an hour’s coughing and vomiting usually follows 🙁

I just bought a Trek Crossrip – disc brakes, rack and mudguards fitted. Seems good so far, even though I’ve never ridden drop bars before.

If anyone does have one languishing in a drawer, I could give it a good home 🙂

And the museum is worth a visit too, we went a couple of weeks ago.

We went for pie at Pi this lunchtime 😀

The most un-common one I’ve come across recently was Pebbles – but NO, don’t use it!! Remember she will have the name for life.

In my kitchen, hot is on the left, but on the wash basin it’s on the right, and on the bath it’s on the left – and I had to go and check that!

No seriously, you look at some of the fancy taps!

And then of course there’s the squirting the screen washers whilst overtaking a cyclist – what a jolly jape! Not!

The only thing not to like about marathon plus is the thumb pain when fitting them! I’ve known some people have two helpers to get them on the rim. Normally they take me a few attempts and a fair number of swear words, but I fitted my recent new one on the pavement outside a bike shop in about three minutes, with only one profanity uttered 😀 The bike shop said they didn’t have time to do it for me 😕

I know it sounds a bit trite, but don’t forget to count your blessings too, bruders, you still have children and a wife to love, who I’m sure love you too.

Edit: And don’t forget you’re allowed to have “down” days, you can’t always be strong.

So sorry to hear it’s not a good outcome. I know others have said be strong for your wife, but I’d like to second what mrsflash said – don’t hide from your wife how much you are grieving too. Share your grief together. Things will start to feel better, it takes a little while, but it will happen.
