I thought the Garmin vivoactive was the bees knees – until I tried one, then realised that the display is hard to read indoors (maybe not really an issue?), and the track/route recording isn’t awfully accurate. It only records route data every 4 – 7 seconds, which means it doesn’t always restart straight away if you stop (if you have it on autopause). It may be a tad better if not using autopause, but I don’t want it recording the time if I’m not moving. I compare it to my Edge 800 and 310xt and it was over half a mile short on a couple of 15 mile rides. Until they upgrade the software to 1 second data recording (like their more expensive gps models) I won’t be buying it. A great shame, cos otherwise it was exactly what I wanted!

We both have conversations with our cuddly dodo – we think it’s perfectly normal.
Our neighbour did comment on hearing us having conversations with the chickens in our back garden…

Oh no, how am I going to let the world know that I’m going to bed soon?

Rover? It’s probably (possibly?) quite uncommon these days.

I’ve tried a vivoactive – seemed quite good, although the screen is quite dim indoors, despite a backlight. I did send it back however, but only because it only records data at (I believe) 4 to 7 second intervals, and for me doing a bike ride with lots of stops (the joys of geocaching!) I found that it was quite short on the distance because it didn’t start recording as soon as I started off again. If it did 1 second data recording like the better Garmins, I would have loved it.

I’m hoping those aren’t the sort of bulbs that blind everyone coming towards you…

Far too warm for trousers yet! Although I do confess to 3/4s very occasionally.

We haven’t “done up” the kitchen or bathroom as I’m sure our original 1930s tiles are “vintage” and therefore very trendy – I just hope we find someone who agrees fairly soon, it’s up for sale…

Where I lived we were obviously far too posh to even think about doing it 😀
I’d never even heard of it until I was an adult!

I have got the airbed business sorted – a fleece blanket underneath so it does squeak on the pvc floor (also covers most of bedroom area, so warm feet), a rolllmat on top, also covered with a fleece blanky – total comfort and warmth. Only thing I can sleep on when camping that doesn’t give me very hurty hips all night. Just a shame I can’t use that set up when I’m cycle touring.
As for other equipment, depends on the size of your tent. a kitchen stand/unit/thingy is very useful for a gas stove and storage. I reckon the best thing I take (car camping) is the chemical loo 😀

We have vintage original 1930s tiles in our kitchen and bathroom, a masonry bit didn’t touch them. However, it was a doddle with a glass and tile bit. Horses for courses and all that…

Is it just me who thinks that if that cyclist had been going a bit slower, he might have been able to stop? Not that I’m suggesting the car driver shouldn’t have stopped of course, but self preservation does seem to be lacking…

but I personally find the actions of these three veterans much, much more moving than the jingoistic remembrance services with all their pomp

    …me too.
But it appears people don’t like to hear the truth about war.

After much window shopping we bought the outdoor revolution 6xt inflatable tent.

Bloody hell, that’s not a tent – it’s a marquee! Is it for the whole of the campsite?

We bought two hybrids at 16 weeks old – they started to lay at about 24 weeks old. We also bought two Pekin bantams who were laying but gave up for about three months! We do now get between one and four eggs a day – it can be a struggle to eat them all!
They are also very entertaining to watch. One of ours will now jump on my knee if I’m sitting in the garden – only cos she wants food, not cos she likes me!

The BC work is just casual, so they are actually correct in paying an extra amount as holiday pay.
Unfortunately, my other casual job hasn’t been paying holiday pay, so what I think I’m after is a statement of the law that requires an employer to pay it – or is there some “get-out clause” available for some employers?

As a casual worker for British Cycling, I get an itemised payslip, showing pay plus holiday pay, so I my question is, shouldn’t any other employer be doing the same? Is it actually illegal not to?

No molly coddling up here, we had kids outside yesterday and today doing Bikeability – bit of fresh air and sun doesn’t do ’em any harm! And I don’t think any of them moaned about being hot.

PS It’s also very good for my sun tan 😀

Why not wask the retailer in question?

Cos he’ll get a quicker reply on here?

31cm from top edge of top rail to bottom edge of bottom corner, top rail is also 31cm long 😀

Any where along the Prom, unless we opt for donuts… 😀

NB this may not be a mtb ride, although there are some interesting rampy bits to go up and down.

If you have a Met shaped head, then Giro probably won’t be any good. I’ve done lots and lots (and even more lots!) of research and trying on recently, and found that Spesh are generally a good fit (but they don’t adjust at the point the three bits of strap meet under your ears, so the rear bit of strap caught on my ears). I’ve ended up with a Lazer Grace, which has a boy’s equivalent in the Helium. Super fit, if a tad on the pricey side.

Gauloises, Disque Bleu and Gitanes. Mind you, now I think about it, if I started smoking again, I possibly wouldn’t hate them…

I got a Lenovo S750 Chinese version about a year ago, as I wanted a waterproof, dual sim phone with enough storage to add more that one or two apps! Interestingly, there’s still odd bits of menu that are in Chinese, but nothing that seems to matter. If you need a Chinese phone for gps, try and find out what gps chip it has – mine’s very, very, very slow to lock onto satellites.
One sim card works as 3G, and t’other is 2G, so I use that for calls and texts, and the 3G for t’internetting.

I still want/need to go to the Channel Isles, Scilly Isles, Isle of Man, Shetlands – I can see a bit of a theme…

Oddly, for over 50 years, I was always quite pleased to say I’d never been to Blackpool – now I live here.

I’m wondering if the dog walkers on Cleveleys beach the other day were Bank Holiday visitors – they obviously didn’t know there are signs by every set of steps down to the beach that say “no dogs on beach”…

From our local Gazette – “The shocking incident comes following a number of campaigns in Blackpool around the issue of cyclists illegally riding on the pavement.

In December last year police launched a major clampdown on the practice amid growing fears over pedestrian safety.”

Part of that initiative was to send those they caught to my Bikeability sessions – unsurprisingly, I have never had any Naughty Boys or Girls attend…

Errrm, we have two cutlery drawers, His and Hers 😳
He doesn’t like mine, reckons it’s too heavy; I don’t like his, too light and too thin to hold comfortably.
