    Sounds like paradise…

Why stop there, why not have no designers. No MTB’s, no cars, no clothes……

The biggest question I have from this thread is what on earth are graphic designers learning at uni for three years if they’re not experienced enough to go straight into a non-junior ‘learning’ role?

After three years at uni, I was thrown straight into doing exactly the same job as highly experienced staff.

What most graphic designers aren’t learning is the technical side of the job. Stuff like using the computer programmes and how to output to print etc. These are learnt on the job.

What they do learn is more the art side and theoretical side etc

So, no adverts, no magazines, no newspapers, no labels on products etc.

If I had to, I could take my own rubbish to the local dump!

No disrespect to Binmen, as they do do an important job, but it’s not exactly a hard skill to learn. That’s whats so frustrating about some of the wages that are paid out there.

Ladders, I think binners would explain my standpoint on this one. (I’m only messing )

Sorry, it was the mention of ‘Graphic Design’ and ‘Powerpoint’ being used in the same sentance! 😉

Not bad for clicking, doing powerpoint, using PaintShopPro, colouring in and shit.

Oh!, you meant not bad for having to have a natural artistic talent in the first place, learning Quark, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and how to output to print.

I’d have killed for a Junior Designer job paying that after leaving Uni! Took me a year to get a job remotely doing what I wanted, and that paid, wait for it, £8.5k! I was getting less than a boy who’d done a years HND or something after doing GCSE’s!

More than I got in my first job after leaving Uni!

Remember he is still only 26, how many of us could stand up at that age and do an amazing speech!

The concept of blindly giving your allegiance to someone because they do a vaguely similar sport to one I like is mind boggling.

    Tell Cadel Evans That!

So what sport do you like?

Couldn’t give a flying duck about road cycling.

    MTB’ing isn’t cycling?

How is it the biggest sporting event in the world? Spectators? Competitors? TV audience? Most drugged up competitors?

    Do you actually like cycling?

In answer to your question, Yes, No, Yes, probably not as much as most footballers.

I refuse to vote on the grounds Danny Hart hasn’t been nominated.

Yeah it’s a shame this country (or the media anyway) are so narrow minded in their sports. I’d have liked to have seen Lucy Garner in the main comp instead of just young SPOTY. And Chrissie Wellington!

Plus Cav comes across as a total dick (IMHO) in interviews so he loses out on the personality points.

I was lucky enough to get to meet him at an event this year and he spent ages making sure he signed everyones books, jerseys and posters. Would a ‘dick’ bother to do that for his fans?

I think McIlroy’s achievement is better.

Just my opinion though. Others may vary.

So, 5 stage wins in the biggest sporting event in the world, let alone cycling event!

Plus the first British World Champion for 50 years is beaten by someone who tried hard at golf! 😉

o the alternative is voting for a cyclist purely because he does a remotely similar sport to me, rather than voting for someone based on actual achievements…

Lol! Yeah, Cav hasn’t really done much this year has he!

I’ve found that cars give me more room on my MTB, could be the thought of my bar ends gouging a big scratch down their nice BMW or Audi!?

Is that why you’re called ‘Ladders’?

Lol! I’m only 6’1″! It’s a nickname because of my Surname

    Cheers!

I might give it to the Father in Law perhaps then to try and get some brownie points. I can use it again if I ever need it as well.

Not my first bike, I bought this of a friend after my first MTB a Kona Kilauea was stolen!

I’d say most of my riding is on singletrack, fireroads & cross country. I’m not a big air person and I wouldn’t really be downhilling. Interesting point about the dead feeling. Am I right in thinking you can’t lock out the suspension on Zesty’s either?

Thanks for the tyre tips btw!

I don’t think I would be dissapointed if I got a Zesty, but I just don’t want to get one and then get that ‘I wish I’d have got X instead”! 🙂

I just wondered if someone else had had the same dilemma and what they did!

    and some more questions!!

With my Specialized, I am running a 2.2 tyre at the front, ran quite low to absorb the shock and a 1.9 at the back. I notice that the Lapierre come with 2.2’s at the front and back. Will I need tyres this wide with a FS bike, and do I run them at higher pressures than I would with a rigid framed bike?

Is there any disadvantages for going for the Zesty?

Apart from the travel, what are the differences? Geometry etc?

Black Cat, I would be very interested in the kit as well, what sort of price would it be?

    High guys!

I’ve been reading this thread and meaning to have a go at this ever since the beginning of the year. Now the nights are drawing in 🙁 this is something I want to have a go at.

Am I thinking right that the parts you need are:

3 x XRE LED’s (from Cutter, nowhere in uk you can get them?)

1 x XRE mounting board (from Cutter)

1 x Optic for MR11 Kits (from Cutter)

1 x LED Driver (where can you get these from now?)

1 x Heatsink (where can you get these from now as well?)

I’m also going to have a go at the dimmable version so will get the switch from Maplins. I think my switches are worn out anyway as the sometimes don’t work.

    Cheers for any help!

    Dave
