The stem is 70mm, 90mm on the Spark. I just didn’t know whether the wide bars was just a ‘trail centre’ downhill thing, or if it was how all XC’ers were going now and it is better for XC stuff!

    Malagacar.com ?

Yes, but get your own insurance as I had to fork out for a windscreen that cracked and wasn’t covered for 🙁

Yep, I’ve worn all colours including bright orange tops, all with flashing lights on the bike, and it makes absolutely no difference. Drivers either think you shouldn’t be on the road and close pass you on purpose, or they are just such bad unaware drivers that they think 3” passing space is ok for you!!

    Cool! Don’t quite believe you’re a novice though! 🙂

Ah cheers, that was the sort of thing I was thinking of! Works fine then? Does everything you would need?

Just shout at them back asking why they are not using the nearest motorway? After all motorways were built just for cars!

Btw, can’t believe some of the replies on here, do many of you actually even ride a bike??

    I’m using them!

As good as Mach 3’s IMO, don’t seem to clog up as easily either so you can string out using the same one for longer as well.

Maybe they got fed up to saying hi to MTB,ers and getting blanked! VOE.

I’ve not bought a new MTB as I’m now worried that if I buy a 650b with through axles it will be obsolete in 2 years because everything will be 750c with wheels held on by electromagnets!

I also won’t be ever buying a new road bike if all you can get is carbon disc-braked frames. Will be getting a custom built rourke with proper brake calipers and keeping my road bike as an object of beauty.

Oh, and well done to all the media for stirring up all the stories of doom and gloom over the past 12 months

What’s the current thinking on best s/w for anti-virus and firewall?

    Don’t bother!

Disclaimer: I don’t really care as I’m far too scared of crashing onto hard surfaces to try road racing.

It’s not crashing onto hard surfaces I’ll be most scared about, it’ll be crashing onto someones red hot disc brakes i’ll be more concerned about from now on!

    I’ve just started with Harrys

I tried DE razors and wanted to love them, but just didn’t find them as easy to get on with as cartridge razors. They probably give you a good shave but are just more hassle.

Found the Harrys blades better then Gilette Mach 3’s, and you can rinse them fairly easily and re-use them quite a few times.

I was wondering about the Apeman camera’s? Wanted one as a ‘fit and forget’ camera to replace my Garmin Virb X on the commuter bike!?

    Suspension.

Back in the day you used them to sprint out the saddle for short hilly bits etc, but you can’t really do that on a full suspension bike nowadays!

You can do it with a headset press, or if you’re inventive you could probably knock something up with threaded bar, nuts and washers!

I was ‘making progress’ on my road bike a month or so ago and this tiny car drives by and the girl in the passenger seat shouted to ‘get in the cycle lane!’, which is basically the path at the side of the road with a cyclist painted on it.

Unfortunetely clueless rubbish drivers (and passengers) attitudes are never going to change! 🙁

Yep, replaced my 520 with an 820.

Think of the 820 as a better 520 if you like!? It’s great to go back to a touch screen, and it’s handy having the maps on it without being massive like the 810 etc etc

I presume the official ‘bridlepaths’ etc that are marked on the maps and run through the estate are still ok to use?

You should see the looks of bemusement / disgust I get from ‘proper’ mountain bikers when they see me ride past on my MTB wearing lycra shorts and jersey, just as I’ve been wearing since the 90’s!

Wow! Some amazing comments about this considering this is meant to be a ‘cycling’ forum!

    Ladders

There’s still a massive problem with how the ‘general public’ perceive cyclists. IMO most people think cyclists shouldn’t be on the road ‘holding up’ ‘proper’ road users!

Facebook, other forums I use, the attitudes the same.

Even at work I’ve arrived at work after riding in and colleagues have said they would ride to work themselves if it wasn’t to dangerous and they wouldn’t want to get in the way of car drivers!! 🙁

Bit of a vicious circle, not shown on mainstream telly or covered in the papers, so most people don’t know about it or what’s going on! The uk is only interested in Football and rugby anyway.

What I want to know is where all these coffee shops were 10+ years ago that Rapha thinks roadies used to ride too back in the day?

The uk road scene use to be Cafe. Cup of Tea. Beans on Toast. But most roadies didn’t do cafe stops back then! #fakeheritage

Yes they’re great! Bit heavy with mudguards etc on, but pretty sprightly and comfortable.

    Yep, Deposit scheme.

Our old landlord tried to withhold our deposit because the carpets looked like they were 3 years old after we had lived there for 3 years, and apparently hadn’t been ‘professionally cleaned’. Got all our money back in the end.

After reading this thread I’ve just signed up for monthly digital – £1.49 Bargin!!

I always find it hard to subscribe to mags when the online price is the same as the printed version!! Can’t see why you pay the same when you don’t get a hardcopy!
