Also used a electric car pump to seat difficult tyres when a C02 cartridge didnt work

lovely car – each to their own, outsiders could look at us cyclists and say why spend £3k on a push bike when you can get a Asda special for £80.

I get the whole car thing being a bona fide petrolhead, love cars, bikes, MTB as well

I would concur with Mouintainmutant – I purchased a RS6 a couple of years ago and whilst they are not the type of car to chuck about the 460bhp certainly makes up for it and they can be made to hustle reasonably well despite the size of it.

I gues it depends on what you are after – myself with two kids, need to drive to France etc on holidays carrying 4 bikes etc etc. This definately made the drive down enjoyable and in comfort – even managed 20mpg cruising on the motorway.

Having said that whilst relatively cheap to buy 2nd hand now the running costs are HUGE and you need a rock solid warranty

Looking at the list of exhibitors there doesnt seem many shops there or usual suspects such as Hope etc or am I looking at this incorrectly.

I am aftr a few goodies for the bike including wheels so was hoping to pick up a few bargains but dont want to waste time going down there if I can’r purchase anything?

Agree with Ho hum – if you want to look after your wheels then Bilberrys followed up with a wax on the rims will ensure that the brake dust comes off easier and make them look extra shiny.

Running mine with Talas 36rc2 and DHX Air 5.0 on back. It climbs so much better than myold 02 Enduro with less lost in pedal bob and goes downhill pretty good as well.

How do you post pics up?

Thanks for all the tips – will give it another go when the new tyres arrive – Continental Vertical and try again. Trying to get tyres on this rim is a right PITA thats probably why I dont change tyres tht much TBH.

Will try and sand down the area around the valve as it doesnt push down too much into the rim

    Thanks

THis just doesnt seem to work. How many strips of rim tape do I need to put on as I am trying to get this to work with a bmz tube.

I have a velox cloth rim tape wound once
    Then inner tube

Should I put more rim tape on such as Duck tape or something

    Ideas?

Yep done it here also on a pair of Hope Mono M4. You need to be careful taking the old connections off as I did break one of them

There seems to be quite a ridge around the valve area

The ridge is where the valve goes into the inner tube like around the valve piece.

At the moment I have the original rim strip in place, put in the bmx tube and seated the tyre – getting a swampthing on a 5.1d was extremely difficult. Then pumped with a track puimp but no joy.

Will try pressing down on the tyre on top of teh valve to see if that helps – but it just seems the air is going in the valve and out somewhere

Does any of the above look wrong?

So teh valve is at the top and you push down on the valve. There seems to be quite a ridge around the valve area so maybe the tubes are no good.

I will try doing it again and do you need to put lots of soapy water around the bead to assist seating?

At this stage I am just trying to get the tyre inflated before I put any sealant in or should I put the sealant in and then inflate

    Cheers

They are old tyres- I might purchase a co2 to see if that helps as it feels as if it is just blosing the air out the side of the tyre

    Tyres are Maxxis Swampthing

How did you get teh tyre to pump up. I have a velox strip + bmx tube and agter a tight squeeze got the tyre on the rim. But with a track pump I cant seem to get the tyre pumped up?

Thanks How much tape did you put in and did you use a rim strip valve on top?

Something I have never had tbh and just used the foot pump but that is now broken and doesnt cover off presta valves?

Will look out for good deals on track pumps – and I agree any better air in the tyres will surely make me ride better.

    Wheres the nitrogen?

Yes please – I can see the hard bit of plastic that is thbe like that is about 3cm or so and ends up being soft rubber at the top> I can see that the cable will run through this.

At the bottom it is not wide enough to take an ouiter with an end cap on – do I remove the end cap and feed in?

    Thanks

Thanks for the advice above-15mm less travel on a pitch is probably not worth worrying too much about, considering the Fox is the better shock

Is there any specific I need to look out for when I move to an outward bearing style? Or are they all the same size??

Thanks will take a look at my LBS and see what they got. I think only Specialised ones.

I think What MB had a review of helmets and a Specialised tactic I think was well thought of.

Cant see the difference between this and the instinct.

I got an 04 Enduro which is set up supposedly for a 125mm fork>>>

I have put a Fox Talas rc2 on set at 160mm, BETD extended rear link and Fox DHx5.0 on and it feels fine. All depends what you want. wants to raise the front when climbing but apart from that it rides better than ever

Trawling google – I found an article with similar problems – it possibly because I have an XT mech that is a dual pull and I cant seem to reach the bolt that holds the cable in as it butts up against the frame.

Mech needs to be a bottom pull BUT not dual pull

    Any ideas

Give us a clue then. It cant be the wrong mech as it has been on there for ages. Maybe I have explained it incorrectly apart from the whcih screw is which???

    kwack
    Free Member

I cant work out which screw is which tbh now.

It is a mech for an 04 enduro – cable comes from underneath teh BB and the cage is above the clamp

I have spent the past 2 hours doing this nd ready to send it into orbit

2004 frame – the bearings near the dropouts. Not sure if there is a ridge in between the bearings or not – I think there is a washer in between.

The bearings in there now do move ok with a bit of notchiness so might just leave them.

    Cheers for the replies
