I’m 14st – 90psi, 3 volume spacers, rebound 6 clicks from max. I run with the lsc around 2 o’clock mostly, full open for lumpy stuff, full closed for smooth climbs.

    I’m really happy with it.

Still using Fluxient U2 mini’s here – two in stereo if conditions are really bad and I’m riding somewhere unfamiliar. They’ve been totally reliable and used as torches a lot too.
They are still giving >2 hours on full beam after 3.5 years of use. £49 each new, plus some extra for a better charger and 2 spare batteries.

@sl200 it needed some assistance with a mallet and an additional clamp to straight it up. So not press alone. It sounds like even with a good press I would have the same issues with an angleset. But I do enough headsets to warrant a decent one anyway.

I’ve just put MT520 callipers on mine (with my existing deore m6000 levers) and they feel like a definite step up. < 100 quid a pair.

    @danti – cross post :D

    I’ll go with that then.

    Found this…

    Headset Cup Press

That looks a step up from what I was using by virtue of having proper drifts that fit the bearings. Seen a few others at decent prices but only 1-1/8.

    @submarined
    – xtools one looks good, but does it have drifts that fit a 1.5 bottom cup properly? That is my issue with washers – they move.

I got a Chinese park copy off eBay. Use some cheap 5 L degreaser neat and it’s spotless after 60 seconds of effort.

I’ve got z2’s arriving today, heard nothing but positive reviews. Like the long service intervals and easy diy too.

I just fitted my 4pot callipers tonight. I dropped way more oil on the cellar floor than was needed in the brakes! I’d have been pushing it with 75ml just because it helps to avoid bubbles if you have more in the syringe than you need. And also I squeezed some grey, manky looking stuff out the levers. I guess I could have managed if it was all I had.

I’m selling my 2018 rev with charger 2.1 with 2021 and 2020 debonair shafts. I probably should have got the rc2 rather than rct3, as I keep comparing with my old pike which isn’t helpful. But even so I’ve struggled with the same balance (I’m 90kg+ too), and when I have found a setting that’s acceptable, it doesn’t seem to stick and I’m back fiddling with tokens etc again in a ride or two. No air is being lost and it’s serviced on the button. It just feels sensitive to small changes in my weight (riding with or without pack) or temps or something else and isn’t consistent.

The best I got was 30% sag (as accurate as I can, being really careful) and 4 tokens in a 120mm fork. I agree the LSC does not have much of an affect. The 2021 shaft doesn’t help or particularly hinder much IME.

I’ve ordered a Z2 for simplicity and I can put any inconsistency down to it being a cheap fork then :D

just returned from dumfries and galloway, sunny and hot every day and not a single midge. I kept checking my GPS to make sure I was actually in Scotland.

I did pike @140mm but front was too tall, bb too high, too wandery. It felt a better bike putting a 120 spring back in, but I have a couple of rocky descents that are just a chore on it. Hopefully this will make them at least enjoyable if relatively slow.

My reach on this will decrease by @4mm, and I have a few stems to try if that’s an issue.

@wzzzz My angleset is going on a 2018 marin 29er! with some bomber z2’s @130mm. should end up with 65 HTA and near enough the STA it has now. Got some 4 pot calipers and a suntour triair shock too, going to throw them all on at the same time to guarantee a mechanical on the 1st ride :D

I have a bottle that comes with schwalbe doc blue, which i use to measure. But I usually just unseat the tyre a bit and squirt it in there. quicker than messing with a valve core.

i got a press and a removal tool for about £20 off ebay. done loads since, no issues.

My understanding is that it has the effect of compressing your shock, which will slacken the STA. I’m not sure whether it would be the same as the change for the HTA but worked on that assumption. I found lots of anecdotal posts on other forums stating this and they sounded cleverer than me :D

offset bushes also take away your sta though. I’m starting at 74.8 and finishing at 74.29. Using offset bushes I’d be down to 72 sta for the same hta. if we use @10mm per degree for saddle rail adjustment, that would be stretching it.

    I think. I’m no expert.

I’m just waiting for a works angleset to be delivered. you can use this site to work out geometry changes…

    https://bikegeo.muha.cc

I’m going taller in fork, but fitting a 1.5 angleset negates most of the unwanted change in BB height and seat tube angle, while knocking a total of 2 degrees off my hta.

Partner is looking for a used van for her business, choices are slim and expensive for the age / mileage. making do with an estate and local couriers for now but not sure when things will get sensible again.

I don’t do enough park riding to make a recommendation. But damn that Transition is nice. I’d get that and sleep with it.

Suntour Axon is available in straight steerer too, in 100 or 120mm and really light (<1700gms). “TS” models are straight steerer, “CTS” is tapered.

    bent mech / mech hanger.
I’d say sticky cable but if it’s new it’s unlikely. It’s always been one of those 2 when I have had issues in the middle cogs rather than the ends. Just replaced a rear mech recently for this, which had been bent and I’d worked it back myself but it’s never been quite right.

6 years ago did my scaphoid with a few other hand / arm bones. Pinned it. Took a few months before I was happy to ride but you’ll know from physio when it’s right for you. I was mid 40’s with a new baby so no sleep for recovery! No ongoing problems for me so far.

Weldite TF Extreme here. After going through purple extreme, muc-off ceramic, finish line wet and dry, Fenwicks Pro and Shimano dry.

Routine is squirt GT85 on a rag and run chain through it post ride (<1 minute). When needed (weather dependent) it gets a degrease with a chain tool and brushes and reapply (5 mins).

I need it to stick to the chain, not get too gunked up, degrease off easy and be cheap. It ticks all those boxes for me and keeps the drivetrain quiet on gritty and invariably wet trails.

I have older HR2’s that are still great. But the recent dhf and dhr 2.3’s seem less tough and fluid leaks constantly through the sidewalls. Switched to XR4’s.

My partner does reupholstering. Says the cheaper ones show when the covers are off and are harder to recover. They hoard good quality old furniture to recover and sell, as it’s better than most of the new stuff you can buy.

Possibly body position if it’s washing out. Get your chin forward and low.

you could lose 15 psi or more in the tyres tho’ and check your forks have the right sag.

A big bag of zx spectrum games for a GT performer. Accidentally gave away the tapes with my own half-finished games on it. Bike turned out to be hot. Teen me was an idiot.

I have a Vintage (JHS brand) V300 mahogany acoustic and it just gets better with age. Can be had new for about £150 now I think. I’m sure I recall it winning best guitar < £1000 when I bought it, or something like that. You might need to budget for a setup, as cheaper guitars tend to less than optimal from the factory. Though I got away with just new strings and sanding a few mm off the saddle.

@whitestone that’s good news. The bike feels just right now. I don’t want to change anything on it unless it breaks.

Really windy days seem rare here (peaks). I’m riding 4 times a week and can’t think of many times I’ve had a strong headwind to cope with. My house is surrounded by tree’s too so I notice it.

Stats seem to suggest it’s stable too: https://www.statista.com/statistics/322785/average-wind-speed-in-the-united-kingdom-uk/

Was blustery yesterday when out walking.

using xr4 team issue front and rear. love ’em. perfect balance for me of grip, weight, roll and feel. added bonus of being the easiest to fit tubeless tyres I’ve had. I hope they do o.k in mud so I can just leave them on all year. We’ll see.

my bike came with 2.4 trail boss tcs light in 29. They are big tyres, I didn’t measure but filled the frame as well as the 2.5 maxxis that followed them on 30mm rims. From memory they rolled well, lacked a bit of bite and the light casing felt flimsy. I looked at the tough version recently but not worth the massive weight penalty (1200+gm compared to 776gm on the xr4’s).

Been on various maxxis tyres for about 20 years. Just tried bonty xr4’s and wish I had sooner. Got them f & r, pressure difference is enough to make the rear brake first. Compound is brilliant, much more feedback, tons of grip still. Can’t speak to use in mud, longevity or if 27.5 is diff than my 29ers. Used exclusively on local trails (dark peak).

I used a thin coating of dynamic seal grease and 3mm oil in the uppers. It didn’t suck down afterwards and works well. I have seen suck down from a blocked transfer port a few times, it’s definitely a thing. Especially using the grease I found in that fork as it was “clumpy”.
