Just watched 16 tonight. Was a bit jaded but honestly loved it. It’s back!

@cougar can confirm, are talking bollocks.

@peterno51 It wasn’t abrupt, it was concise and I stand by it. It’s 9 boxes, I don’t need much context. I’ve done 50k boxes, that did!

    @Russell96
you get it. It’s the simple stuff. The hardest networks are the ones where the basics are nailed, not the ones who blow their budget on flashing lights and “AI powered, blockchain, neural net, next gen, quantum, cyber stuff”!

@cougar I don’t understand your interest in me. Op wanted advice, I gave him mine, you picked on it and now want to pick on my credentials or reasons for offering it. What’s your beef? It’s weird.

@Russel96 I started in networks too, at isp’s in the mid 90’s. spent most of the last 20 years penetration testing with departures into security architecture, intrusion detection, security officer stuff and back full circle. Mostly in banks early on but have all sorts of clients now. Keeps me busy!

@cougar I’ve pm’d the op with my work address and offered some free advice. I can’t see what’s in it for me to post it here.

It’s 9 pc’s. I’ve got more at home. It’s not a big deal, it needs keeping simple. OP can take or leave that advice, but I’m happy to pm him my credentials so he can gauge it’s worth.

for context I’ve ran a cyber security firm for 7 years, been in the industry for over 20 and smashed into more networks than I could possibly remember.

If you think you 10 pc,s in a warehouse will be improved by adding that extra complexity then fine. I’d disagree. I’ve advised a number clients in industrial settings with similar setups and isolation was a better strategy. I’m not rattling full solutions in because A) things are never simple and there will be all sorts of technical and business reasons restricting what you can do. And B) I normally charge a lot of money for that sort of thing.

But hey, I leave this one to the experts…

Not worth it for 9 boxes. You’re adding a massive attack surface (ad or o365) to protect a handful of machines. Talk to whoever set the policies and do something sensible instead.

Not had an fb account in about 15 years. Stopped twitter 3 years ago.
I do insta. Seems when you stop people talking so much they are more bearable.

Safari does that a lot so possible red-herring. clearing the cache usually fixes it temporarily or using another browser (e.g for most google stuff).

Random shutdowns does tend to point to a hardware problem. I’d be looking at the system logs to see if any errors were reported at the timestamp before it shut down. Or if it just hard failed you might see random chars in there which is almost certainly a hardware failure (as it’s a mac so a closed system and not a kernel issue with a component).

I used to play SbS repeatedly at work. When work was a barracks in Ulster. And I’d use the conflicts that that act invited to educate others on the nuances of the situation we were in. It was worth the bruises.

Not their best though, that’s unforgettable fire. Running to stand still always hits me too, due to a loss that way.

Maybe wait for ryzen 4000 APU pc’s to hit the shelves, in a week or two. I have a 3400g and even for emulators I added a rx560. Playing any modern games on it would need lowest graphics settings. 4000’s look a lot quicker in press releases at least.

I did 1.5 and 10mm more travel (and slightly longer c2a fork). works great. I don’t think us mortals would notice 1 degree tbh, might as well go 2.

    @benman

that new allotments climb is a killer and really smashed up near the top (I went down it last week). I’m going to have a go next ride as I don’t remember ever clearing it. I live at the bottom of Moorlands which is a nice grind up to the same spot.

yeah that is a nice one Gradbach, I normally clear the river but came off last time. It seemed deeper than usual.

I quite like the beet lane/south head climb. Just because it’s one of the longest this side of the peaks and finishes with those rocky steps. It’s all downhill to home then.

@kelvin I’m a sceptic whoever I’m listening to. The key parts of the video that I found interesting where taken from other sources – scientists, epidemiologists. His T-cell cross-reactivity hypothesis (that the Dr downplayed) has been proven in labs as a mechanism and proposed for the low number of deaths in Africa. Accepting that isn’t proof, it’s still interesting.

It’s worth considering the foundation of our knowledge of bacteriology came from a fabric seller who built microscopes to inspect the quality of cloth, not a doctor. Without wanting to encourage anyone to ignore the experts (or imply this guy is legit), sometimes solutions do come from unlikely places!

@Kelvin – in fairness, the Dr taking it apart is a cardiologist who quit government over the Cummings row, published a book about Dr’s experiences with the first wave and publicly stated his fear of a 2nd wave. So not exactly neutral! That being said, anyone who experienced that in hospital early this year has my respect and I absolutely get where he is coming from wanting to avoid a repeat of that.

I just watched it with an open mind. It hasn’t convinced me to ditch Covid measures, but some of it does give me both pause for thought and hope. As does the Sky guy above, which follows the same basic narrative (the worst is over, cases are being exaggerated, deaths are not following) without speculating much on the reasons why.

What neither address and is under-reported is the non-fatal effects. A Chinese study showed 55% of recovered patients had some neural structural damage 3 months after recovery. Exhibiting prolonged issues with memory, smell, taste etc. We don’t know what scale of a problem that might be here yet.

I’m on Bonty XR4 2.4’s (in 29er) on 25mm ID rims. 780gms, roll well, grip well, plenty volume. Not done proper mud yet but great everywhere else.

I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another Marin Rift Zone. Simple and effective.
Also like the Giant trance 29. And the Kona Process 134. Ridden with a few Whyte T130 owners who seem to like them.

I got new bike itch recently. Just bought some upgrades for current bike and give it a strip down, new bearings, deep clean, new cables, brake bleed etc. Even with new shock and fork it was a lot cheaper than a new bike and the itch had been scratched. Having said that I then built a new hardtail too so maybe just ignore this advice :D

    kula72

@rockandrollmark makes a good point. A full service of the bike and slap an angleset on it – cheaper than 2k.

    kula72

You won’t go as fast downhill on a hardtail – if time matters. You will still have fun at the slower speeds. You will get more fatigued on longer rides over rough surfaces. You might be less fatigued on rides with less rough surfaces. It will break less and be easier to maintain.

You will get a lot of hardtail for that budget. I’d love a Marin El Roy for that cash, but settled for an on-one big dog as it was supposed to be a cheap shed build.

29er short travel full-suss and hardtail. Lets call it down-country so I be bang on trend for once in my life!

Not seen a gravel bike on the trail yet. They sounds like they are popular so assume they are just avoiding me.

I did first hardtail ride for a while yesterday. It felt horrible at first, dropped the pressures by feel on the trail till it felt right. measured back home and it was 20psi rear, 18 front (29er 2.4 ardent rear, 2.6 DHF front, tubeless). Also the fork sucked (the cheap wiggle fox only had 2 tokens in it @120mm), which didn’t help.

Big volume tyres, low pressures and accept you will still use more energy keeping your spleen from being ruptured than you will on a full-suss.

The average STW bike is not going to be the same as the average mountain bike, that’s for certain.

My z2’s arrived and been ridden since posting in this thread. Love ’em. Prefer it over the rev even with a charger 2.1 in it. I replaced the RS deluxe (with megneg) with a Suntour triair too and it’s like a new bike, just better everywhere. “Budget” gear is just so good these days.

wiggle had a load, oem off some bikes sans stickers. I paid 350 for mine off ebay.

edit: mine are 34 rhythms, might have had other models not sure.

I just built up an on-one big dog with some of those unlabelled fox 34’s and went all Ayrton Senna with it…

Got 2018 35mm revs with 120,130 and 140mm springs plus a charger 2.1 damper in it. just serviced with new skf seals. 160mm steerer. But it will be a bit north of your budget plus postage.

I’ve bought several kids and skateboard/bmx helmets that came with different thickness padding. The fitting advice I’ve always followed is 2 fingers above the eyes, doesn’t move when shaking head, doesn’t slip off when bent over and no more than two fingers inside chinstrap. Different padding is provided to achieve that.

    From ROSPA:
“Padding can also be added to the helmet to get a better and more comfortable fit”

Refurbished iPhone. 7 is under budget or 8 above. Not massive, good camera, latest iOS supported. I’ve picked up 7, 8, 8plus from Amazon and they were like new each time.

Ben Macdui must be quite a ride! I walked it once by mistake and that was bad enough. With a lot of carrying I’d want something light / easy to carry but with good fork and slack-enough angles for coming down. Whyte hardtails fit the bill.

I go through these periods even though I’m surrounded by good riding. I have a couple of default fitness loops I just do laps on for a while till it passes. Doing the odd ride further afield helps too, even if its once a month. Works for me anyway.

I just got a fox 34 rhythm (29, 120mm) off ebay, sold by Wiggle. It’s new but has been taken off a bike. Paid 350. I think they had a few more on there.

I’ve got a used 2018 rev with charger 2.1 and 2021 debonair spring for sale, 29er 120mm but with 130 and 140mm springs thrown in, 160mm steerer (hence the fox, as the bigdog has a 120mm head tube plus external bottom cup that I hadn’t factored in!)

Service / custom tune is probably the sensible choice. I threw money at it and I’ve ended up happy, but with budget parts (comparatively) and spent thousands getting there!
Speak to one of the good suspension shops. My new forks were setup by jtech before delivery according to weight, riding style etc and they are spot on.

Had same with my endura singletrack recently. Got a generic set off amazon for a tenner which should do two helmets. Not the same but is comfy enough.

If it felt good to you previously then just get a full service.

I chased gains with the charger 2.1 damper, 2019 then 2021 air spring, MegNeg air can. It was better but still wasn’t what I was after, so be careful.

The On-one ribble equivalent would be the Hello Dave I think.

I just bought a big-dog to build up, it’s a bit rough and feels heavier compared to my old solaris, but it’s sturdy and should be a fun bike.
