It ain’t all hardtail territory in the surrey hills……

Who cares what bikes people ride, as long as they are enjoying themselves. Nothing wrong with riding an expensive bike if that is what you like.

It’s the muppets who excuse their piss poor riding because they don’t have enough travel or new bit of gadgetry on their 4k rig. They will continue to get the mickey ripped out of them at every opportunity :D

Stop spending your money on shite that will not make you faster and go on a few skills course instead?

My sovereign weighs a ton. The spot on geometry and the fact that I doubt I will ever break it makes up for it.

A lot of folk on here seem to fall into the xc mincer, trail rider category, so heavy steel frame is pointless if you are not ragging the shit out of it.

As long as one of mine is good to go I’m not fussed.

About 2 grand I reckon. As I was pretty much starting from scratch, it was an expensive year. Next year will be less than £500 (barring any frame snapping/fork exploding)

I love the mud. Nothing better than getting your drift on. Shave your legs and start wearing lycra, you are obviously not mtb’er material :P

Much faster. I rediscovered mtb’ing last year after a 15 year gap. In the last 18 months, my bike handling skills have come on loads and I can just about keep up with some guys who race downhill.

I was shite at riding when I was younger, as I had no clue about technique. Modern bikes have made a difference, but the biggest change is constantly practicing bike handling skills.

Trail riding, kneepads. Anything with reasonable sized drops and jumps, kneepads + 661 subgear top. Downhill, full face + body armour.

I stacked it on some roots the other day and have decided to wear kneepads all the time. My shoulders are knackered so I wear the 661 stuff, which is pretty good.

I’m 6’3 and had a medium. Absolute riot on the downs and jumping, but a pain in the arse uphill.

You wont find many endurance athletes who don’t eat much in the way of carbs.

If you want to run a low carb diet and still have energy for riding, save carbs for breakfast, pre, during and post ride.

Brilliant, I wouldn’t ride anything else. Not waterproof, but ‘water resistant’

Depends what you are using it for. If you want to pedal it uphill, get the large.

Always wanted one, but in the end decided that the seat tube on the large was too small.

When they eventually bring out the Blur LTc in alloy, I will get one.

I went there last weekend and had great fun. Apparently it is much better than before.

I almost binned it on the blind hip! Look before you leap!

See you later mate. The sinister is long gone, but I had fun on it :-)

All the best for your move back to OZ.

I run the same combo in summer, but with a 2.1 advantage on the rear. Works for me.

I’ve just read this. He obviously knows this, hence the reason for him taking the piss.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this is a case of MTFU. Someone is cracking onto your wife.

Strongly worded text message? I would call him up and tell him to f*ck off. If that didn’t get the message across, I would go and see him in person.

Chatted to loads of good people here, but can’t always remember names. Of the top of my head, Tazzy, Mboy and DavidTaylforth. Seem like nice guys who don’t talk a lot of bollocks. Oh and GW, to call him a c*ck in person :D

Coil shock, with a ti spring and bolt through rear axel.

Or alternatively get a chumba xcl. Strong enough for mini DH, light enough for trail riding.

With an adjustable fork and offset shock bushings it is brilliant.

I haven’t ridden Afan, but just got back from riding Coed-y for two days. Unless Afan is significantly better, I would go to Coed-y, I could spend a week there and not get bored.

Swamps have never been a fashionable tyre and this was enforced by the fact the Sam Hill never used them – he’d always prefer a cut Wet Scream and therefore they get labelled as sh!t by all the cool kids and everyone is embarrassed to use them.

GW = Sam Hill wannabe lmao

that question aimed at me kudos?
I ride 60a dry conditions tyres all year round, my only recommendation would be for you to try doing the same. (unless you’re racing)

Point is, you are an experienced rider who regularly spouts shite about MTB bits without recommending anything else. I don’t need you recommendation, but some might benefit from it.

Yes, they are slightly retarded. Tried to find a folding supertacky, no luck as it has been discontinued.

Care to recommend another tyre, rather than doing your usual, ‘it’s shit’ routine.

    3. Stagnation and decay or our social order. We need some-sort of socio-economic-legal-political revolution. But I don’t know what. Ideology has become a dirty word.

    This.

It is more of a global problem than a uk one though.

Eh? I can’t imagine maxxis would get rid of such a popular tyre without a replacement?

Why not just another Mud X?

I prefer a fatter tyre up front.

because no matter what the marketing says Sovys ride better with 100-120mm forks

    Nope, 130-135.

@OP. Why not go for a adjustable fork? RS revelation allows you to mess around with the travel and find what works best for you.

    road ones.
