If you get a full day, a great ride is to start from Dunsop Bridge, over Whitendale/Dunsop/Beatrix to Parrock Head/Laythom, over to Gizzy via Slaidburn, do a loop and head back.

    That’ll wear you out!

Longridge Fell is good fun, compact and plenty of hidden bits so great if you can ride with a local or if you’ve got a day to explore. (Strava can be helpful for finding the well-ridden routes).

Some great riding round the Trough of Bowland – Whitendale, Ouster Rake, Dunsop Breast, Beattrix Fell etc, and Waddington Fell has some decent riding from Pimlico side.

Pendle is a bit disappointing though…

Thanks Jambalaya, I’m definitely going to look at hiring an MTB, but I might go for something with a bit of travel and do some uplifting.

Daft question, but are the hire bikes all “left-hand drive”? ie, euro brakes?

Not sure how fit you are, but obviously there is a lot more climbing over there!

Good point! I’m a middling Cat3, 40 years old, big engine that likes long efforts as long as it’s not too steep!

I ride Majorca every spring, so used to 1hr+ climbs!

Some great pointers here chaps, thanks for taking the time to reply so quickly!

Thanks Tony, I’ll make a note of those places and have a look on the map. Cheers!
