Depending on which cranks and chainrings, you may be able to do what I did – use the less-offset version. Worked for me for Absolute Black rings, GXP crankset on a non-boost frame. These: https://absoluteblack.cc/sram-oval-boost-direct-mount-traction-chainring/

What VPN are you using? I’ve found Netflix in particular to no longer work over the VPNs I use.

The runaway log file per @maccruiskeen would be my first guess as well.

To make hidden files visible open the Terminal app and type:

    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES

Then restart the Finder (reboot, or press Option and click Finder in the dock and click Restart).

To find large files, go to Finder, bring up a search box (Command+F), and then in the filter area (probably says “Kind” right now) click, select Other, double-click File size, then in the next box select “is greater than” and in last drop-down box select “GB”. Then type in some number in the search field – start with greater than 5GB. Your search should look like this:

    Good luck!

On two of my bib shorts where the pad sewing has come undone (the pads were sewn in, not glued) I took them to a local tailor – a different one each time. Each time the tailor said they didn’t have whatever special sewing machine is used on lycra, but they would give it a try – and the repairs seem to work.

    TLDR: Try your local tailor/seamstress

If by chance Hammyuk doesn’t follow through, please put me next on the list. Looks like a fun project and I already have a mahoosive transformer for my US-sourced KitchenAid

As an American that has lived off and on in the UK over the last 20 years I’ve been curious about what may be a stupid question: why do UK (and as far as I can tell, most European) cars when fitted with hitches, use a swan neck tow ball instead of the more versatile hitch receiver?

Google “Tenkara fly fishing” for thoughts on easier entry to fly fishing. No reel, just a rod and a line.

Jira is a nightmare to set up, and is generally overkill for many companies. I’ve become quite a fan of Pivotal Tracker.

One thing I don’t like about my Fly12 – keeps me from using it on a lot of rides – is it’s just plain heavy, which I notice in bike handling. Does anyone else find this?

Depends on if you are riding a hybreed or not.

I had it about three years ago. Found a tick after walking with my kids in Highlands (thankfully none of them had any), and about three weeks later noticed the very obvious “bullseye rash” while taking a bath. Went to local infirmary in Glasgow and said to the front desk nurse “I think I have Lyme Disease”. Her response was – “What’s that?”. The doctor had at least heard of it, but my consultation consisted of him Googling a bit, then calling whatever the UK version of CDC is, and giving me a prescription for a massive dose of antibiotics.

Glad to know its being taken seriously, and hope the medical community are made more aware of the disease.

Urgh :-/ I read a thread that said it had all disappeared as the guy making it had packed it in sometime last year ? Then a load turned up in ebay so presumed it was back to normal. I am now confused.

As far as I can tell the company is still around – but I gave up trying to buy their products in the UK. On an extended trip to the US, and have bought myself a litre of it. I don’t know what the difference between the Extreme and the Gold versions are – I buy the Extreme when I can because I like to think I’m an EXTREME rider, but as far as I can tell the main difference is the Gold turns to solid wax at a slightly higher temperature than the Extreme. For both, in Scotland, I have to bring the bike and the lube indoors for awhile to apply.

Most accurate way is to pair with a wheel-speed sensor and let it figure things out automatically.

I had always thought that when paired, like this, Garmins would default to GPS and only use wheel sensor if there as no GPS signal or (at start of ride) if signal hadn’t been acquired. Out of curiosity anyone know how Garmins use wheel sensors when available?

Per GD above – I have some Easton carbon ones I’ll put on my riser bars whenever I’m doing a multi day or major epic in the hills in Scotland, otherwise I take them off as I’m a victim of “no bar ends on riser bars” fashion.

@rockhopper70 – my read of this though is OP is looking to have a cable end at each end – not to cut one off?

    krixmeister
    Full Member

Probably a stupid question, as I don’t have a dropper post myself – but if you have cable ends at each end, how do you adjust the tension of the cable?

I don’t think an anchovy would have fixed that either. Tube+boot on the trail, and try a patch inside the tire when you get home?

In my viewing – Sagan’s elbow was after Cav was going down. So, it seems the DQ was for not holding his line. But watching the video – Démare was all over the place – from the far right side of the road in front of Cav in fact to the middle by the time he crosses the line. In fact Démare cut directly across Sagan’s and Bouhanni’s lines.

Does the pointy thing stay on once in the tire? And if so, how does that work if you at a later date need to chuck a tube into the tire?

Normal and expected. While the stem shouldn’t twist during normal riding (if so, the bolts aren’t tight enough) your expectation should be that it twists in a crash – thus saving more expensive bits from actually breaking.

It’s a matter of mitigating risk vs cost. The SPOT subscription is great if you need continuous tracking and the message sending functions (and I’ve used mine for such in the past), but >£100 is a bit hard to justify for an unlikely case of “what if there’s a dire emergency _and_ I’m in an area with no phone signal” for a one-off ride.

I don’t see the advantage of the Emergency SMS service linked, as it still requires phone signal.

Anyone else know about using SPOT emergency button without subscription?

Mavic has some nice ones on sale on usual sites. I recently picked up a Cosmic Ultimate for something like a third of original retail.

Does anyone know if Catlike are still around, btw? I like my Whisper (also bought on sale) despite its funny vents.

@molgrips – BikeHike does work outside UK – although with the little un-resize-able window only for OS Maps. The OS Maps site itself works as well of course, but it’s the new vector maps, not the older style maps. Are there any other sites that offer OS maps online, free, that you are aware of?

Ta. OS maps on Bing must be geo-locked to UK then. Thanks!

Definitely hope to take some lessons – as I know I have some bad habits that would preclude me from passing the test. Interestingly – none of the driving instructors I’ve reached out to (two+ months in advance) are interested in doing a few lessons, then possibly (or even possibly not – I’ve tried both approaches!) letting me use their car. I suspect they would prefer to have a nice big block-booking from a proper first time learner.

Anyway – huge thanks for all the tips, especially @CraigW re Marmalade

Also – you may have the wrong USB cable – you need a charge/sync cable. Check that by trying a different micro USB cable. I direct-connect my Garmin 810 to my Mac all the time, and do the drag-and-drop method as Garmin Express/Connect/whatever is totally useless on the Mac. the only purpose it serves for me – barely – is uploading to Strava.
