It would be easier to do that! Unfortunately the wheels are on a spare bike at our holiday home, and I’m hoping to bring the correct spokes with me, replace, and ride over Christmas.

Currently using one, for the last year or so, and has made a HUGE (and positive) difference to my training and performance in recent races. For me, it was having the accountability and structure. Usual caveats – you have to find a coach you like, and of course agree with him/her what you are hoping to achieve.

I thought it was about Pontiac muscle cars, and I was going to mention the Goat was discontinued in 1974 – discounting the Aussie Holden version.

Slight hijack – I also suffer from cold hands and feet (feet sorted this year by finally getting some winter boots).

I’m “pogie curious” – and also very broke. Any recommendations on cheapest half-decent pogies to buy for trying out, and again – cheap in case I don’t get on with them?

Yeah. I may be grandfathered in from an older plan, but I have just changed my main number to their latest “SIM Only” 100GB for £30/month deal here:

    https://shop.ee.co.uk/sim-only/pay-monthly-phones

and then a couple of “Shared Phone SIM” plans at £12, but for some reason (probably because I call and complain about the price increases every year) discounted down to just under £8 each. Those other two numbers share the data from my main plan.

Looking at link below – the shared data plans no longer seem to be available, but seem to have basically the same thing (just a bit more of a pain, you have to manually allocate the data each month) called either Shared Data or Data Gifting.

I may be misunderstanding your question: are you wanting the same phone number for both iPad and iPhone? Or just shared data allowance between the two sims? If the latter, I have an EE shared data plan so my kids can use all my data allowance on their Snapchat/etc. My plan is normal price, their extra numbers are something like £8/month each.

Tethering always a pain for me, although that’s what I do. Half the time I have to switch off and back on WiFi, Mobile Hotspot, etc on both devices a few times before I can get them to talk to each other.

@Scotroutes – if you want to go super cheap, just for a try-out, you can absolutely just an SS spacer kit, and rest of your drivetrain as-is. With a short piece of cable you can hack a rear derailleur into a tensioner, and just go for it.

I did the US MTB SS champs last month with just that setup, using a 10 speed chain (’cause that’s what my MTB normally is) and lived:

    null

Sure, it’s nice to have a full EB or track-dropouts equipped steed, but for testing out and seeing if you like SS go cheap and simple.

Yeah – there are definitely tire and rim combinations that require levers. Based on above input plus my own painful experiences to date I’m going for the Crank Bros Speedier levers – they will fit my seat pack at least, and I don’t think Pedros levers will give me the leverage my wimpy hands need. Will report back on experiences.

My own experience is warmth is OK – in fact the plant is originally from Mexico, and somewhere I have a photo of me next to a poinsettia TREE in the Chihuahuan desert from an MTB trip there decades ago…

What they do need is lots of light – the lack of which in British Christmas’s is what I suspect tends to kill them.

Using Save as PDF (instead of printing to PDF) seems to have done the trick. Strange. Thanks for all the tips!

Have done further testing. The original PDF (PPT’s export to PDF) is not able to be opened by PC users either (using Dropbox link). So something either in the PPTX or something the Mac is doing on export. Weird. Will continue testing, open to any further ideas!

While @molgrips is technically correct, there are probably other options. I was never a fan of Basecamp on the Mac anyway.

For starters, maybe look at some of the online sites – http://www.gpxeditor.co.uk/map , https://labs.strava.com/gpx-to-route/ and similar.

Also – not sure if Komoot is available for Chromebook, but I have friends who swear by it on iOS and Android.

Polarised every time. Much better for cutting down glare especially this time of year with low angle sun.

One thing to note – the polarising coating on Oakleys seems pretty fragile. I’ve gone through quite a few Oakley polarised lenses, and have learned never to use any “normal” lens cleaner products (with various types of alcohol) to clean them. Just a bit of dish soap and warm water.

Even then the lenses probably won’t last more than three years before the polarised coating starts crazing. But Oakley optics are just so good that I put up with that (plus the cost) for the benefits.

The point is that if you keep your water levels up, you don’t lose salts, ie you only need plain water.

This isn’t exactly accurate, although there is some truth to it.

Unless you have certain medical conditions, sweat will always contain some amount of sodium and other salts, along with a bunch of other chemicals. Studies have shown that intensity of exercise – independent of sweat volume – also has an impact on the amount of salts in your sweat.

To OP’s question – I’ve often wondered same, but find that Nuun tablets aren’t too expensive, and the slight expense overcomes my laziness at trying a DIY solution.

In Aerospace the Ti is not welded.

Unfortunately superficial understanding such as the above appears to permeate into some manufacturers too, so many frames aren’t adequately designed and get cracks all over the place.

Thanks PhilJunior for saying that. I was about to reply similar, but my knowledge isn’t as in-depth as yours as I was under impression there are in fact some instances (repairs?) where aerospace Ti is welded?

In any case – if it is in those instances – it’s still not welded by most likely under-skilled welders, and no Ti frames im aware undergo full X-ray weld checks.

    I wouldn’t buy a helmet online.

Why not? I’ve used Mavic and Spesh helmets for years (decades?), know their sizing and how they fit me. Can’t think of any reason not to in cases where you already know how the helmet fits.

Anyway – for OP I’d say move on. Not worth worrying about, nor stirring up the STW massive on it either!

Others may have differing views, but £129 for the battery + labour + Apple warranty is probably a good deal.

MacBook battery replacements are, on most models now, a real ballache as the battery is often glued to the chassis, and even when not is hard to reach.

Nothing to add, other than last time I had a creaky seatpost on a Cannondale (within last year, and there’s a post here with me asking if Thomson seatoosts ever don’t creak) turned out it as a cracked seat tube.

I did use some fibre tape to wrap the sh*t out of the seat tube / top tube / seat stay junction, and did a race on it before binning the frame!

@didnthurt never saw civets, but a friend swore he saw a binturong (bearcat), despite officially none remaining in Singapore. Very possible though – as we definitely did see various escapees – ox, strange non-local deer, etc – that had obviously come from the Singapore Zoo. Of course, again officially there are no escapees from the zoo…

Here in Texas now it’s the very real racoons, skunks, possums, porcupines, and scorpions you have to watch out for!

#edit – oh and coyotes. Forgot about them.

Oh yeah! Used to do lots of night riding in Singapore – the jungle is very spooky at night, and always in the back of my mind was “are they 100% sure they shot the very last tiger in Singapore?”

The local riders would absolutely not ride at night at all during Ghost Festival, and thought us laowais were crazy for doing so.

Recognising you are probably wanting to do this yourself, so I have nothing useful to add. Other than – if @stevied ‘s kind offer doesn’t help, I believe MTBbatteries has also worked on/upgraded a number of Troutie lights. Would involve sending off to him.

29×2.35s are my current go to tires for MTB; have them on my XC race bike and my do everything hardtail. Very pleased with them for MTB usage. Can’t say for gravel tho – would love to hear experiences there as well. I’m still quite happy with my WTB Nanos for gravel, but I do wind up having a lot of tarmac on my gravel rides.

Whether the frames are identical and whether you can patent angles and dimensions is one

    and

I think you probably could if it was an exact copy. There’s more to a bike than angles, tube

IANAL alert… There are generally four ways to protect IP: patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.

Although, if you are Specialized, I suppose there is a fifth way to protect your IP: lotsa lawyers.

I doubt that the Sonder or On One designs – a series of frame angles + tube lengths, could be patented, as there is no unique invention and a “design patent” would probably also be similarly difficult to prove uniqueness – I’m sure a quick scour of Alibaba would find many frames with similar enough design features. I guess maybe a case could be made for a trademark, if they were particularly unique, but otherwise it’s just a variation of the double-diamond frame.

Just gone through this a couple of times, for 24 hour races. For BA at least there used to be a max power rating, and you had to contact their safety team for an approval. This seems to have changed in last few weeks though – as they are saying you do not need to contact their safety team for approval:

Several people have said “they should all be on the same bikes / level playing field”. I’m curious why – there’s no similar rule in real world cycling, from olympics to WC. In other esports there’s no requirement to use same keyboard / mouse.
