Slight thread hijack – like @nuke I use Veygo for learner driver insurance for our learner. Rather than getting full insurance once she passes, have been thinking about just adding her occasionally a la Veygo.

Is there an app or similar where you can simply buy add-on insurance for the day/weekend/etc?

Not FS, but I think nothing beats a Klein fade – gator or sunrise in particular.

Having tried lots of different solutions including Stans, Tesa, duct tape, electrical tape…. For various reasons, my goto now is the Caffelatex tape – “Mariposa” or whatever. This stuff: https://www.wiggle.co.uk/effetto-mariposa-caffelatex-tubeless-tape/

    Right amount of stretchiness/stickiness/removable-without-gunk…iness.

There are also some headsets that allow use of a tapered fork in a straight-steerer headtube. They raise the headtube slightly and thus slacken the bike overall, slightly. I had one in one of my bikes for awhile, never noticed any difference. I can’t find a link now, but I’m sure a bit of googling will help.

Good question. I think in theory the Kickr can connect to both a Bluetooth device (your Mac/PC) and an ANT+ device (your Bolt, or vice versa), but I have enough trouble getting my Kickr Core to just do one protocol or the other that I haven’t tried it.

60 days is very far into “sounds like your problem not mine” territory for eBay sales. No refund, if you are feeling very generous you could offer to help give instructions on bleeding, but that’s it.

Ta for tips. B&Q (and Homebase) have the self service machines, but not allowed to use them. I think a locksmith is going to be the answer.

Definitely bees? Could also be ground nesting wasps – which can be a bit c*nty around people, I’ve found. Especially people mowing the lawn…

See if you can find any one who’s used them

I think that’s what OP is trying to do here.

Having lived in Singapore and been to Berjaya Times Square, I can say with 100% certainty there is no bike shop, let alone this one, there.

They seem to have a sister site http://bestroadbikedeals.com/

Not saying they are a scam, but it feels pretty dodgy. Generally most of these brands would be significantly more expensive in Malaysia due to import duties, etc. I wouldn’t trust my money or CC# to them.

Looks awesome. I find large white patches on jerseys get dirty too quickly – but maybe that’s me. Otherwise LOVE it!

I’ve had both. EBB set up correctly, even a cheap one (Charge Plug Grinduro with Chinese crapola) won’t creak. Key is a good clean, good greasing, repeat occasionally if gets especially mucky/dusty.

Adjusted the EBB every once in awhile when tensioning needed, and never noticed any issues with saddle adjustment. Different shoes/socks probably have as much effect, when doing simple “tightening the chain” adjustments.

Sliding dropouts nice, but I find more of a faff – more movable parts to rust/seize, tighter space/packaging constraints if trying to fit disc + Rohloff (I don’t have experience with this) + mud guards.

Both good, neither option well-built will be any problem, but given the choice I’d go EBB.

I’ve not own CK hubs, but the couple of friends of mine who have/do seem to still have to adjust (esp the rear) on a fairly regular basis. May be outliers compared to above, but some additional info – your experience isn’t unique.

DT or Hope for my money, or I9s if you really want bling factor (out of my league though!).

In typical STW fashion you’ve received more replies saying you’re wrong for some reason than actually answering the question you asked 🙄🙄

For some people and some use cases (Mike’s dad above, presumably the OP) tubeless isn’t the answer, and no amount of “s/he should just learn to deal with tubeless” is going to change that.

So if new tires or tubeless aren’t an option for whatever reason, then per the reasonable answers above.. in my view Slime is actually pretty good, but once a tube needs to be replaced it is unpatchable, and will need to be tossed. Tannus looks interesting, but may be overkill.

If his punctures are from objects (as opposed to pinch flats), normal tire liners might be sufficient.

Finally you might also look at thicker inner tubes. Bontrager and Kenda both do “heavy duty” tubes.

Thanks all for replies, BTW! @JRA – I would argue manual. I see your points, but renting a car in a lot of places (Europe and Asia) is still going to be more likely a manual for next couple of decades, and I know the first car for my daughter is going to be a crappy, tiny-engined manual!

Unless there’s a real concern she’ll struggle with a manual, I’d say manual.

If you email a picture of it to the BETD folks, they are usually pretty responsive and good at identifying compatible hangers.

It’s even more of a farce than it appears. I hit this issue for the first time late last year, flying from the US with a bike. I saw that notice, so called about two months before the flight to let them know. I was told I need to call the airport the day before the flight, to let them know. And BA’s helpline couldn’t provide a phone number for who at the airport I had to call.

Per above – definitely sounds like bent hanger. I’d replace it even if it doesn’t look bent. Even a slight bend that isn’t visible to the eye can still cause shifting to be off, and especially the issues of “works at one end of the cassette and not the other”.

You could also double check that the derailleur cable is correctly routed the whole way along the bicycle, especially if it has an “under the BB” guide. A friend of mine once routed it on top of the guide plastic instead of through it* when replacing the cable, and took several days of tweaking shifting adjustments to realize this.

    *It was me, actually

Agreed on above – just say you are him. I do this with a couple of our household accounts that are in my wife’s name (Virgin Media in particular, any time I have to report the service as down) – its kind of humorous when they ask me “are you Mrs Krixmeister” and I just answer “yes I am”. You’ll be fine, nothing at all wrong with it in the grand scheme of things.

Downside of being honest and explaining the situation is that you may (will?) get a minimum wage phone agent who’s job isn’t worth bending the rules a bit.

And finally, best wishes for you and your family during this difficult time. Do get as much time with your father while you can. I lost my father about 18 months ago, not a day goes by I don’t think about him.

Was booked to do pair, then my team-mate dropped out, and plans B and C became unavailable. Managed to get a solo place instead, but doing without support (see plans B and C above), because I’m an idiot.

First time doing the Puffer although have done a number of other 24 solos. In much better conditions. A bit worried about the cold – I turn into a big girl’s blouse when my hands and feet get cold, so bringing eleventy million pairs of gloves as well as pogies.

Two bikes, one with Ice Spikers (if I can get the f*ckers back on – they are tighter than a gnat’s privates) and one with summer tires, so that should ensure nice sloppy non-frozen mud throughout the race.

Good to know – thanks @epi! What about arriving on the Saturday – is that too late to grab a spot on the course? Not sure if all parking spots (I know one car per entry) are on the course, or if some aren’t?

Cletus and Andrewreay (and others) pretty much nailed it. One thing I would add – which may be where some of the confusion is coming from…

The Apple ecosystems does have the ability to make calls (via your iPhone) from a Mac or iPad using “Continuity”, but the iPhone has to be on the same WiFi network as the Mac or iPad.

So – in OP’s situation – that wouldn’t work. As per above – recommend a large iPhone (XS Max) with the text sized increased, and possibly some of the other disability features switched on. Siri is pretty great for folks with limited sight / hand/eye control.

I ran a cut-up can of Tennents lager as a shim, for 31.6 to 30.9, for about 5 years. I wouldn’t spend money on a shim for this purpose, but I a a cheapskate.

Software issues will be down to something else installed on your phone, I’d imagine.

If only. Every firmware update from Garmin was always a question of “how many known outstanding problems will it fix, vs how many new issues will it create?”

As mentioned above – the hardware is great. And clearly Garmin _can_ create great software for their devices – hence their usage in nautical/aeronautical fields. But for the consumer units they really do seem to have a bunch of software problems, although they are getting better.

For those people who the Garmin ecosystem is working for, I’d say stick with it. But if like the majority of my friends either the firmware, the phone app, (and) or the computer app causing problems, it is worth checking out Wahoo. While not perfect, the connectivity seems to be slicker and more robust that Garmin.

I gave up on Garmin about a year ago, for same reasons. Hardware is great, but I think they have their least-experienced mail-room interns write all the software and UI stuff. And yes – gave up on ever using any of the Garmin software on my Mac.

Wahoo Element Roam with an iPhone is bliss. I’ve never uploaded any maps – the built-in ones work well-enough for me, and all setup/configuration/synching is done via the iPhone and Wifi.

I don’t use my Roam (nor Garmin) for mapping – I tend to just use Strava routes or Komoot to plan a route, then just follow that on the Roam. If you need detailed OS-style maps, not sure if/how you do that.

Overall I’ve been super pleased with the Roam. In six months or so I’ve had one device crash, and ride was recovered fine. Had a couple of times when synch/upload to Strava and Training Peaks didn’t happen for some reason, but I was able to manually force the synch using the iPhone app.

I occasionally miss the touch screen of the Garmin, but then I remember it usually never worked for me anyway, given rain/wet gloves/etc. This is something to keep in mind though, and was the biggest “getting used to it” of the Wahoo – no touch screen.

Polyfilla if poss, otherwise if you have a Sawzall or similar cut out the affected bit and glue in a replacement. But the cheap/lazy Pollyfilla solution will probably work just fine.

As my kids say – “Just ask Google!”

Short version: they stitch together arial info they already have – specifically satellite view and other topographic information, with Streetview. So thinking of a building as a basic cube, satellite info gives them top view, topo info (with some clever maths from Streetview) gives height, and Streetview gives side views.

    #stealth edit:
Should have added: stereoscopic aerial photography also helps fill in some of the side views
