On that note, if anyone else has an adaptor floating around their garage they’d like to sell, I’d love to get one as well for an older frame I have and still use occasionally.

Prices do seem a bit steep, given that in my experience with SRAM everything, with exception maybe of the cranks, is a consumable. Still, I’ll probably be wanting 1×12 on one of my bikes, because I like shiny new things and I am a poser.

For reference, this is the pump – as a quick web search seems to show there’s a newer, but still very old, model with this same name:

I have two On One frames with exact same problem. I get the impression On One have some significant issues on quality control on seat tube variances. You should call and see if this is covered by warranty first.

I sent one of the frames off for a carbon repair – the recommendation was to shim the seatpost down to 27.2 . The repair place did a great job of it to be fair, but charged about £100 all in (including shipping). When my other (identical) frame had same problem, I saved myself some cash by buying a 27.2 shim and some epoxy and doing it myself. Recommend you do same. Mail me (in profile) if you want a little more guidance on this, from an admitted amateur. But it did work for me.

@More – completely agree. My question was more – is there any general standard regarding this in UK policies? Or put another way – any insurers people could recommend, which don’t have these exclusions?

steve_b77 – thanks for the very helpful tip on the hub, and the less helpful one on which current groupset deals currently around.

FYI – when sending LMGTFY links, it’s usually considered best practice to include a helpful search term.

Thanks for replies. As @scotriutes said – road from FA to Loch Tarff still (I biked up to there yesterday), but plan tomorrow is to take advantage of this lovely weather and do a loop round Loch Ness going off-road as much as possible – South Loch Ness trail route on way out (new to me) and GGW back home. Hopefully this time, unlike last time I rode the GGW from Inverness, I won’t get lost around Abriachan – it was a miserable and scary haul down the A82 to Drummadrochit.

Will post pics of and when I survive the loop.

It’s worth using the speed sensor as well – the Garmin picks up your speed/distance from it and uses that until the GPS signal is locked.

This. On a related note – does anyone have a good source (webcam, website, whatever?) to find out current snow conditions in the Highlands? Not how much snow is on the slopes at Cairngorm, but how much is on the trails elsewhere? Or is best bet just to check the Drumochter A9 traffic camera?

OS MapFinder on iOS definitely lets you import a route. I just mail the GPX to myself (or click on a website), and the iPhone gives you the option to open in the app.

I find the OS maps on Garmins to be fairly useless. Like many others here, I use OSM on Garmin, and OS Maps app on my iPhone. Works for me anyway.

For Shimano brakes in general – how difficult is it to swap them to left-front/right-rear continental style? Is it a simple matter of moving hoses and rebleeding, or any other equipment required and/or don’t bother?

As above – 2-3 months minimum. I broke ankle, had plates and screws in, then further surgery a year later to have them removed and other pins put in, along with fusing one of the joints.

Depending on doctor approval, you can probably get on the turbo trainer (light effort) within a month or so, to at least keep things moving.

Good luck with the healing and speedy recovery.

This from Art’s Cyclery shoes how to do it with road shoes; MTB cleats can be done similarly. Per @ghostlymachine above – differences in where you feet sit in the shoe should be kept in mind, but the linked method is based on finding the ball of your foot.

A bump for the working day crowd. Input very much appreciated, and we’ve already had some great feedback from the survey as well.

Great feedback, thanks. For sake of simplicity we were trying to reduce the number of “options” – so you already have the chance to choose event type and country – the list should simply show all events of that selection type, in ascending order from today’s date. Will need to see if that can be made clearer, though.

Great idea on defaulting to the user’s country.

Yeah Rapha are expensive, beyond the point of being overpriced. But one thing Rapha do really well, which I haven’t come across with any similar clothing vendors is they have an excellent repair policy. Twice I’ve had my bibs repaired by them, at a reasonable cost, and then received Rapha vouchers for more or less the cost of the repair.

And I probably am a total poser, but I wear my Rapha bibs often, and my Rapha jacket sometimes, on the MTB. I must have missed the memo that said Rapha was for road/CX use only.

FWIW I have Vectors, had no problems at all with them. Haven’t used the S model, so can’t comment on the pedal pod sizes. My Vectors have been used with Garmin 500, 800 and 810 units.

Good question – I have no idea, but it definitely goes past the seat tube/top tube junction.

To clarify – the one the carbon repair place put in is working fine, has been for months. It’s my other frame, with same clamp area shearing problem which hasn’t been repaired yet, which I am wanting to repair myself.

@matt – I know in the 80s and 90s Cannondale used Dupont Imron paint, which was a big deal as the paint was expensive, difficult to paint with, and lasted forever.

I run a site – http://www.Meet4Rides.com – that has listings. Depending on the time, there’s usually between 10 and 100 MTB events listed. I just checked – looks like the UK listings are a bit thinner than normal – I’ll check and update the database in next few days.

In all honesty – there’s nothing live that I need to watch that I or the family can’t watch shortly after on catch-up. Except F1 and TdF – which as mentioned, necessitates a trip to the pub. A sacrifice I’m willing to make!

Really – we haven’t watched live TV in years. Do people still actually sit down and think – “oh yeah, I need to turn on the TV at 7:30PM to make sure I catch _insert program here_”?
