Be there when he needs to talk, don’t avoid the subject, and be empathetic.

Try and arrange something that they can both do with you to take them away from the day to day routine.

I’ve always had good service from Leisure Lakes in Long Eaton, and they always seem to be fairly knowledgeable.

Agree about Sherwood Pines, especially the surly attitude of some of the staff, and the stock levels are appalling, although the workshop has always done a good job, and generally is quiet when the others are busy.

Freewheel are good, but really expensive.

My LBS is Leisure Lakes. I do try and put business in the direction of Sherwood Pines, but to be honest, I don’t find them that good in terms of stock or price.

    Same with cheaper carbon handlebars.

IMO, a Zsskar looks wrong without bar ends.

I’m a reasonable skier. Mountain biking seems similar, hopefully I’ll progress to the same sort of level.

They’re great if you’ve got a bit of arm pump from a descent as well.

Got them on mine, ergo grips as well.

Bunnyhop, it’s a date. Your other half is bothering me on facebook, so I’ve sent him details.

Bunnyhop, nothing unusual there. I’ve been told where to go by a lady many times…

I like helping anyone out, no matter who they are, but if you include the opportunity for a bit of banter at the same time, even better. :D

Bunnyhop, so when are we all meeting up for a ride then? That’ll be you, me, my mates, and your husband obviously. Although I’m game for a ride with four lurverly laydeez as well. On mountain bikes. Ahem.

A week ago on Sunday, a woman stopped and asked me if I needed any help with my bike.

Bunnyhop, one of the ones from Man Chess Tor?

Bunnyhop, I’ve got one tyre that’s an absolute bitch to get over the rim without liquid soap (and pretty bad with it). It’s tubeless ready, and thank god, so far I’ve never had a puncture in it.

Bunnyhop, who am I? More to the point, who are you?

RudeBoy – the point being that in what is generally a fairly male dominated sport, the opportunity to help out, impress, and maybe even chat up some lovely lady with whom you share an interest is fairly rare and it is surprising that some red blooded bloke didn’t take the opportunity to make the most of the situation.

What RoCkeTdOg said. Always stop and ask anyone if they’re ok, need any parts or help or anything. Twice now I’ve given out free tubes, and twice I’ve had one left behind the counter at the nearest LBS.

I mince a bit. Took me five aborted attempts until I MTFU’d enough to ride down the steps at the top of Jacob’s Ladder.

Hopefully a trip to Morzine in 12 days is going to sort me out.

v10 what drivetrain has that got?

A mate has got a XTC 3 and loves it.

I would generally say that between 6 weeks and 3 months is the usual recovery time for this procedure, and varies very much from person to person.

It is best not to rush the return as you risk damaging the internal repair, allowing the herniae to recur. All AFAIK etc etc.

Accurate scales at around this weight are very expensive, and need to be calibrated regularly, most household scales will hardly be close BTW.

26lb 10oz with ergon bar ends and atac pedals. Soon to lose a few grams as I upgrade to formula brakes. XTR rear mech  , but mostly XT drivetrain otherwise. :D

stilltortoise, absolutely, unless you’re racing, it’s just an expensive way of showing that you’ve got money to burn. Fortunately my mech is still intact, and it’s only the hanger that was screwed.

I do wonder what the point of having an XTR mech on a 6″ trail bike is. I’ve got one fitted as OEM on my bike, it’s already been twatted with a rock and I’ve only owned the bike for a couple of weeks.

Thanks guys, useful stuff. Not interested in hitting the dirt jumps, just jumping better on the trail, and landing properly.

Anyone know any other good trail guides for Morzine?

You’ve got an excellent bike already. Why swap, unless it was to something completely different?
