i have to be careful, as I have 2 painkillers, 2 beers and ended up in a bikeshop yesterday and very nearly bought a new bike. I don’t want to get anymore injured when the missus gets home!

I enjoy the rocky section on Smiths and the flowing section after, but thinking about it, I agree… you do loose a lot of height before you get there and the climb out either way is a bitch.

I love mine – but the new one still has a 1 1/8th headtube!!? Which makes upgrading the fork a ball ache.

All right… all right… but apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order… what have the government Romans ever done for us?

You can’t go far wrong anywhere in Permbrokeshire – lovely place. Bear in mind the coastal campsites can be quite exposed to the prevailing wind. Solva is a quaint little town, with a few pubs to choose from – not camped there myself but you might find somewhere a bit more sheltered from the elements.

Also, if you are looking for a nice romantic meal one night, check out “cwtch” Restaurant in St Davids. You will probably need to book, but never had a bad meal there.

There is also a sheep dog training farm that does a daily show, which is quite entertaining if you like that sort of thing http://www.sheepdogtraining.co.uk/demonstrations/

the CDA is also on my list (although very top end of budget) but i have to say I’m leaning towards it.

My simple view is thus : My pound sterling goes a lot further when I go over to Ireland to visit the in-laws. I can now almost afford to keep up with them at the pub – my liver on the other hand…

Life is too short and too precious for this sort or stress. We had the same issue and after realising next door wasn’t going to do anything about it, and we didn’t want the added stress of taking it further, we moved. (admittedly fairly easy as we were renting and coming to the end of a years contract anyway)

Best decision ever. You don’t realise how (a seemingly small amount of) stress affects every area of your life until it is removed.

The fitter you get the harder it is to actually achieve your max heart rate. Think of the extremes, your regular couch potato will likely reach their max next time they decide to head to the fridge for another beer. A top athlete will have to be at or near a world record pace and still have a few beats in the bank.

there’s a great app/website for just this called goodreads[/url]. You can rate books you’ve read and it’ll throw back suggestions. Reader reviews are worth a browse and there are also book lists. i.e top 100 books of various decades, best 100 books based in SE Asia etc etc. Worth a look for plenty of ideas.

Seriously, Quantocks is worth the drive. i may be able to get out after work one day and show you some of the good bits if you like?

Geared, if you’re prepared to drive a bit, hit the Quantocks. Puddletown nr dorchester is alright for half a days spin, and Haldon Forest has some real easy marked routes and some more interesting off piste stuff.

I just picked up a pair of these after struggling with watery eyes on fast descents… look a bit odd, but i find them a nice compromise between glasses and goggles.

Naah, wouldn’t go out of my way to go – that said it’s a good place to introduce people to mountain biking.

The blue is just a fairly flat loop (and a slightly longer flat loop)
The red is probably a blue, couple of interesting bits.
There is a very short “black” extension off the red – more like a red really, and not worth the slog back up the hill after.

Fair bit of off piste stuff cafe side apparently, but I’ve not had a chance to go find it.

Car park gets ridiculously busy at the weekends.

All in all not worth it – if your in the general area then I’d go Quantocks/Exmoor.

Yamazaki 12 year old for something a bit different… and a pair of nice engraved whiskey glasses with the change.
