konabunny, all the parks in east dunbartonshire have rubber collars around the top that move with the chain and stop the swing retaining any momentum. Google ‘anti-wrap swings’. Pah.

Pah indeed. btw shouldn’t you be eastdunbartonshiredan in that case?

disabity benefits aren’t economic stimulus. Benefits would be the worst form of Keynesian demand management.

What playgrounds is OP hanging around? The swings I see are just the same as lethal as the ones before – although the ground surface isn’t glass-studded knee-shredding rough Tarmac any more.

Demonising anyone who takes a different viewpoint seems to be an increasing problem in modern politics

    Who’s being demonised?

I’ll go back to being part of the silent bullish majority.

What do you mean by “silent bullish majority”?

Weren’t you just complaining about being one of the minority that is actually a net contributor^ to the UK?

    ^ only fiscally, sugar

f you want things to change at the next election engaging with people is more likely to get them to change than haranguing them for their selfish view point.

Is anyone interested in trying to change your or Jambalaya’s voting practices?

there will be many diasable people who get far too much and only have themselves to blame for their situation

    Will there?

As a higher rate taxpayer I prefer to keep as much of the money i earn to spend it how I wish.

to anybody who bleats about the injustice of the UK’s system I would say: get off your backside and go and live in, for example, India or Nigeria where a huge percentage of the world’s population lives, see how thay are forced to manage than come back here and tell me you live in an unjust society.

I grew up, lived, worked and regularly visit just such a country. (Have and do you?)

I could probably move back there tomorrow and make more money and pay less tax. Much of the reason why I live in the UK is because it’s safer, fairer and because people who can’t cut it in the labour market don’t have to beg at the side of the road. The U.K. system is unjust. However, I acknowledge the diligent work of the current government in closing the gap between us and that country…

Trump so far has attacked women, the Hispanic vote and the coloured vote (by refusing to condemn the KKK). That means he is going to struggle to win much.

He doesn’t want to win 51% of black people, urbanites, fundamentalists, and Hispanics – they’re never going to vote for him anyway. He couldn’t GAF if they don’t like him.

He wants to win 100% of the white semi-urban/rural “common sense” vote – and he’s doing really well among them (including women). Whites might be a contracting share of the electorate but they actually show up to vote every year.

    I think it’s a bit close to bullying imvho…

Considering that Corbyn is supposed to be so toxic and loony left, and still has his own MPs slagging him off and ignoring the tory shambles over Europe, shouldn’t the tories be in a double digit lead? That’s not interesting at all is it!

And conversely, with the Tories about to rip each other apart over the absolute disaster that was the EU negotiations and Brexit referendum, with economic indicators not great, with the NHS being dismembered, with the pension retreats, with austerity…Labour should be demolishing the Tories everywhere.

    And yet they’re not.

Isn’t the cenotaph a memorial to those who dies fighting for our freedom? As ridiculous as it sounds, doing donuts in a mustang is one of those freedoms.

    That’s silly

I wrote to my old college to express my disgust.

I also wrote to my old college to express my disgust, but they just washed their hands of the affair, saying “we at North West Glasgow Secretarial School have got nothing to do with the issue”. Sad. Low energy.

That’s just crap and the law has gone in the wrong direction. It should be protecting the rights and not diluting them. But I also call bullcrap on the argument. If I take a photo, you don’t have the right to use it as you see fit without my permission; see my UKIP reference above.
Sorry art I tried to protect you.

you didn’t bother looking up what “public domain” means, then…

Public domain has a specific meaning in copyright law (and it’s not how you use it).

Donald: the newspaper is not Facebook, so unless Facebook sublicensed the use of the image to the newspaper it’s irrelevant.

Unless we can honesty, 100%, say that you can build, operate, decommission and dispose of the waste without ANY incident or pollution/upprocessable waste at the end of it then we have no right to use it as far as I am concerned.

That’s not a test we set for any other energy generation (or probably any other human activity). In fact, we KNOW as an absolute fact that digging up stuff, transporting stuff and burning stuff causes deaths.

I’d like to see Tilda Swinton play all the roles, except for any female roles which can be played by Eddie Redmayne (if Gabourey Sidibe isn’t available). I’d relocate the story to Weimar Germany though.

From the meagre press reports I’ve read it did sound like excessive self-defence and so the right verdict – but I didn’t actually hear any of the evidence. So let’s assume he intended to kill him…

…what would convicting him of murder have actually achieved?

And it’s this lack of tolerance, and clear divide in attitude, that makes leaving the UK so much easier.

Getting a sarky remark is not being tolerated so you want to leave the country? Those Syrian guys should probably feel sorry for you.

I don’t think Norway and Switzerland see it like that. I don’t think they’d swap for all the tea in China. They’re doing perfectly fine out of the EU in fact despite their ‘poor deal’, with some of the lowest unemployment rates and highest average earnings than any other country in the EU.

If you’d like to go back to the Palaeolithic age and insert a gigantic lake of oil in the UK’s sector of the North Sea, it would be really easy for the UK to be as prosperous as the Norwegians!

Our trading future is with India, China, South America and North America whose markets will dwarf the EU’s

Great. Why do you think the UK is a more fantastic trading partner than the EU from their perspective?

“Hello, Brazilian Trade Ministry, how can I help you?…United who?…Kingdom?…okay, let me take a look…are you the guys with the oil?…oh, that’s the United Arab Emirates is it…okay…hold on, I’ve got a United Arab Republic, United States – well, we know you’re not them, I’d know who you are!…ahh, okay, United Kingdom – oh, the small island, you should have said!…wait, you’re not the same as little Scotland any more, are you? Ahh, I see…no, we just had their ambassador over here the other day…lovely lady but not much to say to her is there…now, how can I help you?”
