religion had prerty much zero to do with the Troubles

    Huh.

You did sod all in the Troubles to fight terrorism, and yet you said you were highly focused on it, and you expect ordinary Muslims to “root out and expose” terrorists.

If Christians where causing a terrorist threat I’d do all I could to root it out and expose it – zero tolerance. I am absolutely appalled at how the Catholic Church…

You said earlier on you were very focused on terrorism as a result of living in London throughout the IRA bombing campaign. You also mentioned that you are a Catholic.

What did you do to root out and expose the Christian bigots (on both sides) engaging in terrorism at that time?

If a simple soul like me can see the need for contingency plans, then surely the govt has economic experts who can point out potential risks and come up with similar contingency plans for strategic industries – otherwise what’s the point of them?

Businesses barely understand the obvious risks that face their own business, let alone the hard to predict ones. It’s completely unrealistic that government should understand the businesses of others in a variety of sectors well enough to prepare contingency plans is unrealistic.

I think it had something to do with the fact that the employer did not report this to police, as they are legally obliged to do (if you aware a crime has happened, you are legally obliged to inform the police, or risk being guilty of joint enterprise of whatever it’s called),

    This is completely wrong.

church now accepts Jesus was Jewish, for some time to convert to Christianity you had to be Jewish first (so I have been told). I just thought that was more pertinent than your comment he was Palestinian

I don’t know if I’m convinced. Is that some sort of Vatican II tomfoolery?

It would also help if we could all develop a “buy British” policy when possible, rather than the very Yorkshire selfish “I’ll not be ripped off”.

A “buy British” policy here means a “don’t buy British” policy everywhere else in the world. I doubt there are many manufacturers here that would want to live without an export market.

Edit: the sane Americans I know all think that Trump will get his ass handed to him on a plate should he & HC be in the same room together i.e. a debate.

    That’s a self-selecting group though isn’t it?

Hillary has a really toxic brand, at least fifty percent of which is deserved.

There are a few cars around here that charge at the kerbside. No significant problems. If you live somewhere the neds would do that to an electric car they’d probably do it to something else anyway

Did anyone suggest that these were wonder cars suitable for absolutely everyone?

I must admit, though, driving an electric car around California is a lot different than than the UK – remember there’s no big petrol engine warming the inside of the car up…

California is a big place. Sometimes it’s very hot in some places and sometimes it’s very cold. But unless it’s the perfect temperature, you’re going to want chilling or heating

There needs to be verbal warnings (with a representative of the person accused), written warnings and final warnings before you can bin someone.

It depends on the misconduct. If it’s gross misconduct you can bin someone immediately. Amazingly, you don’t have to give verbal warnings if the employee dismembers a customer on the shop floor…

    what is gross misconduct?

LG: “It’s a serious breach of contract and includes misconduct which in your opinion causes serious damage to your business, or irreparably breaks down trust and relationships – for example, if someone hits another employee or is stealing.

Kimbers: Well, yeah, obviously steel makers want their competitors’ products taxed more heavily so that people have to buy their more expensive products! They get a short term gain from that and if other countries impose retaliatory duties on other UK products – well, snot their problem gov

Baseball is definitely a sport to watch in person, not on TV

Baseball games are really fun, it’s like a picnic in the sun with lots going on. Never seen any aggro whatsoever although I’m sure if there are 50,000 ppl you’ll find one arsehole – but easy to avoid

Take sun protection (cream and long sleeves)/warm clothes (depending on whether day or night game), also water (if security let you). You’re outside for a long time and the number of people who sit there letting their skin cells get traumatised is unreal…

British values include worshipping a Palestinian, deferring to Germans, speaking bastardised French and doing whatever an Australian billionaire tells us to. Get it right ffs

My assertion is the ira’s primary objective was to cause commercial damage and disruption, secondary was to target the military and thirdly civilians

And how does that assertion match up with actual history? note: you may want to actually read the Wikipedia list that details the IRA bombings

There’s a big freelancers Union in the US but j think it’s more like a clearing house for health insurance for self-employed people

I believe a lot of the creative industry unions have lots of freelancers and contractors – NUJ, Bectu?

The TUC website used to have a wizard that would help you find the right Union depending on profession and sector. I was a GMB member at work when no-one else was

I think the OP is getting an unfairly harsh time. It’s political correctness gone mad.

Don’t list to Jambalaya there’s more reasons than discrimination. Whistling Blowing for one which is kind of what this is.

I don’t get it. What aspect of this is Whistling Blowing?

Isn’t most scrap sent to China anyway? Shipping is dirt cheap because all the containers are going back empty.

northerners eh?) about an uber-centralised London-centric system of government that nowadays barely even bothers to pretend to give a shit about anything that happens outside blah blah blah

Idk how you’re whining about a London-centric anything when the company that failed is a bunch of provincial factories owned by Indians and failing to make products that can be sold on the world market. London didn’t come into its failure one way or the other.

Binners keeps whining about London People (as always). If they’re so useless, why is it that no-one wants to live in the provinces and you provincial people can’t keep your own industries going? It’s an Indian owned steel company that doesn’t have any significant footprint in London.

Yes some of the attacks where aimed at civilians but they where not the modus operandi.

So you’re saying apart from the IRA’s sustained campaign of bombing civilians, it wasn’t their modus operandi? o_O

yes I was in London at the height

Heh – that’s a bit of a shift from what you said earlier.

It sounds like bad news for the Chinese taxpayer that apparently there’s a state policy to subsidise every steel consumer in the world, but good news for everyone else.

How do you think they would be treated by their community if it was then published that they made a cake directly denouncing their own faith/beliefs?

How do you think a Muslim/Hindu/Wee Free baker would be treated by other members of their religion in those circumstances?

subsidised political ally flooding the market with cheap oil and driving prices down in a global recession hasnt done our oil industry much good

Aren’t pubs allowed to choose who they serve?

They’re a business so they’re allowed to discriminate on some things (footwear for example) but not others (race for example).

If the pub was a religious establishment, it would be allowed to discriminate on religion. But it’s not, and neither is a bakery.

…it’s a good thing the British arms industry has never been too choosy about who it sells weapons to. I mean about to whom it sells weapons. Weapons, to whom it sells. You know what I mean.
