A very sensible holistic approach considering the wider implications of any decision. Nothing whatsoever about **** everyone over to make a killing

You have misread what it says. The obligation is to the members. The directors have to have regard to the other factors in meeting that obligation.

“I have had regard to the fact our new trainer sweatshop will result in virgin rainforest being concreted over and have decided to go ahead with construction”.

Jesus all of these scots going to France and getting slobbery kisses from old ladies for being Scottish. It’s like the bigot that comes out with the line “well my friend/boss/hairdresser hates Muslims and he’s Indian” – as if that proves anything

It’s almost like it’s total rubbish.

There’s no real need to isolate these instances to “British” is there.

There is if you’re trying to point out the hypocrisy of the Scotch whining about being oppressed when they were some of the most zealous oppressors in the colonisation, enslavements and genocides of the British Empire!

a long, long history of imagined bitter oppression might have something to do with it…
There you go, fixed that for you. And yes, I’m Scottish too.

    Hear, hear.

If you want to find bitter oppression, look at Ireland, the Caribbbean, australiasia, the Indian subcontinent or anywhere else the British (including the disproportionate and enthusiastic support of Scots) occupied!

nced than has been reported, here is an article written by Joshua Rosenberg in 2002 who is probably the preeminent legal journalist and has recently been made an honorary QC.

    Rosenberg’s a tedious brown noser.

I think it’s used because it’s commonly accepted good practice not to acknowledge self declared states – is that the answer you have on your card?

It’s not all subjective like most things and anyone who says it is is demonstrating massive ignorance. It’s subjective woo vs objective science.

As far as not qualified, it takes 5 years to qualify as a Chiropractor, including time at medical school and doing human dissection, so its not like its a weekend course or isn’t in depth

I bet you’re thinking it the wrong way around by looking at how much each costs to service each month…

Think of it this way: you’ve got an extra £1000 to apply to either loan. Which loan costs more to borrow £1000? Answer: the one at 3.19%.

Deliveroo probably isn’t turning many permanent jobs into casual ones.

Yeah but it is intensifying the degree of casualisation. You might have been going from week to week in the past for scheduling – now you’re going from task to task where the carpet can be whipped away at any time.

Was it his dad’s suit? He’s still trying to grow into it

As an aside, the Taxpayers’ Alliance is often featured in the media as if it were a bit like the Which? of taxes ie some sort of association representing taxpayers at large. It is not. It is a private company that is funded and controlled by a small number of wealthy Tory business interests. This explains their recent wading into the doctors strike etc http://www.taxpayersalliance.org/news/tpa-funding-were-closing-in and also the media reports linked to on that page.

I understand the people saying “you can’t be overdressed” by it depends on the kid. If he’s going to sit there being preoccupied thinking “dressed by mum I hate this suit dressed by mum I hate this suit no one else is wearing a suit I hate this place dressed by mum”, then he’s less likely to do well. Otoh if he’s not bothered either way, it’s no big deal.

I would do the opposite of whatever my advice is: no uni that interviewed me face me an offer!

600 apps for 120 places is pretty good, isn’t it? I mean, 150 of those apps might be total no-hopers, another 100 will get in somewhere else they prefer…so you’ve got a 50/50 chance (ish).

unless there is a health and safety issue you have no legal basis for that comment. A persons hair, facial or head, is a choice of expression and protected under the ECHR

S/he doesn’t need to have a legal basis to make that comment.

Not all forms of expression are protected by the ECHR. “My hair is long because I’m a Rasta” would be; “my hair has ketchup in it because I’m a lazy slob and I couldn’t gas about this interview” isn’t.

Otoh the state of the applicant’s hair would not be very relevant to the application, I would have thought

The alldayer/touring comparison doesn’t stand up – if you commute there’s about 12 hours of sweat fermentation time between each wearing of the clothes. That’s different to one continuous usage where there’s air movement and constant fresh sweat

its either that or a hourly bus service to the station or a 40 minute walk plus during the summer, options for longer routes home will be plentiful!

I’d consider walking it – 40 minutes is a nice length and when you factor in all the fannying around with clothes and locks, it might not be a lot more time consuming than riding.

I think things have improved a lot in “real” London and don’t think it’s as dangerous as others do. There could be a perception v reality thing obviously but London drivers are mostly used to slower speeds and cyclists all over the shop. I suspect it would be worse in the suburb/country borders were there are fewer bikes, higher speeds and less infrastructure. I have also grown up a bit and don’t cycle on busier/confusing roads any more (Elephant and Castle etc) but choose quieter longer routes. Although people blindly pulling out on smaller roads is more of a worry for me than eg being rear-ended on a bigger road.

Also, more and more councils in London are going to 20 mph. Even if it only brings real speeds down to actual 30 mph I think it’s making things better. I’m also a car driver and honestly it hasn’t slowed journeys down in reality – actually it’s a bit more relaxing. If cars were invented today, you’d probably start with a speed limit of 20 in town…

There is a Topeak (I think) proprietary slide-on-and-clip arrangement. You can slide the bike seat on and off with one clip. You can get rack bags and stuff. Obviously this is sod all use if you don’t want a back rack…

    Functioning Democracy?
isnt it just us that have 26 free spots for Bishops in parliament
oh wait Iran does that too, so we are in good company

Functioning, not perfect. I’d sling the bishops and remaining hereditary lords out immediately (ditto the monarchy).

But bracketing the UK (and Scotland in particular, with free and contested local, Scottish, UK and European elections) with Iran is just self-evidently silly.

he whole cynical point of the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly were to cement Labours position in those areas. It’s possible that within 15 years of them being setup that they’ll control neither!

The pint of the Scotch Parliament was to head off the independence movement – the Scotch should be given enough power so that they didn’t want to bother asking for more. Unfortunately many in the electorate thought the Scottish government did such an amazing job that they should go independent!

It’s all good news that labour lost control of London, Scotland and Wales (and were never really in NI), all of which devolved – it’s called functioning democracy.

He is trying to get out of some sort of obligation the law puts on dealers

If you bought the car, the law would be on your side and he would be held to those obligations. But you know what’s better than having the law on your side? Not having bought a dodgy car in the first place…

Apparently, this is not the current strategy (as taught by the pros (sic) coming from the US). They prefer not to go to head-to-head but rather to move to their own ground instead. Almost cost us all in Scotland. Pretty crass advice

But you won! Doesn’t that vindicate the strategy?

Brant: imvho I would (as suggested above) try to have photos done on sunny day (if you ever have them up there…). Get rid of the futon/floor on mattress in second bedroom – I don’t care what happens in Japan, it’s the furniture equivalent of Pot Noodle and loneliness. ;) get rid of the stack of DVDs in the attic and put a lampshade on the bare bulb – it looks like a room that’s been a dumping ground because the owner couldn’t work it how to use it; ideally paint over the howking paint in white; +1 on dressing the room as a home office. Get rid of the Fiat – it’s a tiny car that shows how small the parking space is. Clean up the garden. Condensation in the kitchen “tells me” it’s cold and damp. Move the shower curtain so it’s not blocking the window (and make sure shower curtain is new). The place looks sparse and a bit abandoned rather than just clean and tidy. Get rid of the white stools under the table in the living room – then get rid of the table that’s neither a coffee table nor a dining table.

Who is going to buy your place? Couple with one kid, a couple or a single, probably? What sort of stuff do they want to see?

I have no qualifications in this area behind being a chump that is trying to buy a house.

nice number plaque to help distinguish it from the neighbouring properties.

Btw this just illustrates how some things are just impossible to get right for everyone. To me, those little plaques are just about the twee-est thing possible and would be on my list of “things to smash as soon as I moved in”. To unovolo it’s something that makes the house look less conforming and boring like all the other competing houses on the street. Neither of us is right or wrong.

Pile of shoes at end of bed and temporary green wardrobe = there isn’t enough storage space (it looks like).

Furniture in the bedroom (tall wardrobe right next to drawers) makes ceiling look low in photos.

    Remove all trinkets.

I’d like to make an offer subject to you moving the house to Midlothian and installing another floor and reversing the effects of gravity.

Public transport is great, it’s the pricing that is PC GORN MAD.

I consider myself a bit of a sneaky deal getter when buying stuff online but I bought London-Edinburgh tickets recently at a station owned by a different TOC to Virgin East Coast…and the canny guy behind the counter saved me £150! That was after I’d spent ages searching online. It shouldn’t be this complicated. I won’t bother buying online again, I’ll go to the ticket office where there’s a PhD in ticket purchasing there to help me.

It might be quite fun trying to drag a zimmer frame through a narrow gap – they’ve got some sharp corners on them.

Over on petrolheads or detailing forums there are probably tons of threads about how Zimmer frames are a social menace and how they have to park on the pavement to avoid damage by them

Calling Bono sanctimonious etc is just someone lazy unthinkingly following the herd in repeating something that a mediocre stand up said ten years ago. None of you have done a tenth of arse-getting-up-off and doing something for other people.

(I got free tickets to see U2 a couple of years ago. It was like seeing a pub band so we sat in the stadium’s seats and had a few beers. I wouldn’t have paid for tickets).

If it were akin to the 70’s she’d actually have her tits out. Are were really that sexually repressed nowadays that we have to get in a froth about a bit of bare skin and a pretty lady being used in advertising?
