“but coming form a nation with an unelected head of state” – unless I am mislead, our head of state plays no part in parliamentary decisions.

Well of course not. the legislature is just one part of the state.

Please explain to me why you think Poland has the right to argue that the UK cannot change the rule regarding paying child benefit to Polish citizens who work in the UK, but who’s children reside in Poland?

. The UK (governments formed by those parties you’re such a fan of!) chose to sign up to a club where they agreed to treat other states’ citizens the same as its own. There’s no democratic decefit – If the UK doesn’t like the rules of the club it can simply sod off.

We all remember the classic teenage pub-goer drink ‘a cheeky vimto’ which started because port was always ridiculous cheap and alcopops tasted good. What’s the best way to make this cocktail, made with WKD and Port, that extra bit cheeky? With half a pint of Buckfast!

I just did that journey thus last summer. It’s far. I did pretty much nothing but drive and even then it was two whole days from the Croatian coast to Dover. Don’t drive unless there’s a really good reason. You can fly to Ljubljana, Trieste, Zagreb and Graz very cheaply

There may be border controls or checkpoints due to the refugee crisis. There are still poor bastards trekking through Slovenia en route to the north.

You can buy vignettes for Austria and Slovenia at loads of petrol stations.

Slovenia’s lovely but it can be surprisingly expensive.

Julian: email the solicitor and ask if s/he has instructions from their client to accept service of documents.

op: court might allow service by email if you can show they’re still using that address eg recent messages or new flyers showing he’s still using that addy. Don’t know procedurally how you ask for that leave tho

    The PM only earns £140K-odd

PM is a useless benchmark because 1) they do it for power not money 2) there’s only one pm 3) it leads onto a lifetime of directorships, speaking opportunities, consultancy gigs and bringing peace to the middle east

This pushes wealthy Londoners into neighbourhoods they previously wouldn’t have looked at (…mainly in Zone 2)

This is cobblers. It’s rubbish that whole streets are empty and even if they were it would have a barely perceptible impact on the prices of houses in zone 2. It’s also rubbish that wealthy Londoners only look at some 2 because zone 1 is too expensive recently. Where are Clapham, Fulham, Richmond, Dulwich, millionaires row etc? All outside zone 1 and they’ve always been wealthy neighbourhoods.

I don’t see why she should have been awarded best part of 10 years salary just because she was able to get a better lawyer.

This is a bit like saying Merckx won races because he had the better mechanic.

well over priced headphones, so he must be doing something right.

Beats by Dre is owned by Apple. Jimmy Iovine told him to inject his brand into the old company and did the “hard” work.

You really can’t see that by investing in the other regions people would be more likely to move and so there would be a greater supply of houses in the SE?

That wouldn’t change the supply of houses in the SE. It would change demand for houses in the SE. If we are going to get snooty about “supply/demand equations”, we could at least be accurate…

Take Dr Dre for example; smokes weed everyday, and is also a very successful musician and business man.

He doesn’t smoke weed, is always the second best musician on his albums, and he was mercilessly fleeced for the first fifteen years of his music career – so hardly a shrewd businessman.

Do the posters who think this is reasonable behaviour live on the Chatsworth estate?

I’m afraid I don’t understand. Why should I want to live on Chatsworth’s estate when I’ve got my own estate near Gloucester to live on?

and then find the increased supply means tenants have the upper hand in price negotiations…

Only in Britain would a prediction of lower rents be considered bad news.

“The problem to soon arise ,house prices will be to expensive for average jo to afford on current salaries, buy to let sales will drop off for the same reason, leaving a lot of btl owners with void properties unable to repay the mortgage loan,”

That doesn’t make sense. If prospective buyers can’t buy, they’ll have to rent (because people have to live somewhere). If that happens, then BTL landlords will have fewer voids, not more.

The contract award was more than a year ago and Malcolm Rifkind is quite rightly no longer an MP.

Alliance Medical won the contract when Rifkind was an MP and a director of the company.

No, they deserve it. Would be interesting to cross reference this thread against the pre-Christmas one where all the engineers with a sense of entitlement were bitching about how inadequate their Christmas gifts and meals from work were

It’s all complete nonsense. Most barbers and hairdressers aren’t employees – they’re sole traders, sometimes renting the chair from another barber. Hairdressers are the second worst paid people in the country: http://i100.independent.co.uk/article/these-are-the-10-lowest-paying-jobs-in-britain–eyMObPz1Tl

The people being selfish and refusing to tip when tipping is the social convention are scumbags. You should be ashamed of yourself.

It’s not only about criminal prosecutions either. Understanding the circumstances of a collision like that will be critical to making sure that civil liability is properly allocated. A person was killed; expensive vehicles (and cargo?) were destroyed. How do you make sure that the person’s family and the affected businesses are properly compensated without knowing what happened? That’s people’s lives (can those left behind afford to keep the house, support their kids etc) and livelihoods that you’re dealing with.

there’s lots of good work done at the scene but the CPS/Judicial system that then kicks in does not reflect the time and direct/indirect cost of the initial investigation

    Says who?
