Health and safety officer.. there I said it. Used to be a tree surgeon but a bad back stopped me doing that! Thinking of going back to plumbing at some point or LGV driving… Can’t be doing with all the politics in an office.

Try rotating your bars back a bit to get a feel for it?

There was a thread on MTBR or pinkbike with loads of prophets on:

    http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=53047

Doesn’t get many pics ’til later on it the posts though!

The raw one on page 8 is really nice.

I would post pics of mine (white) but I still haven’t figured out how to do this on the forum 😳

Saw an otter too on Monday on the Irwell in Salford 😯

Also see deer regularly in the woods at Drinkwater (Prestwich) – gets the adrenalin going when they dive out of the woods in front of you on a night ride!

Saw a stoaty / weasely thing in Swinton a couple of years ago running down the street.

Found a dazed Merlin stood on the pavement outside my folks house in Morecambe many years ago. We took it to the owl sanctuary where it made a full recovery.

I primarily got the notebook because my wifi had gone on my expensive laptop and I just wanted something to go online. Think I paid £170 for it new. MacBooks sound expensive but I’ll have a look…

Cheers for the advice, might try the linux thing to see if I can retrieve any of my files (would that work?). Think my tax return was on it 😯

Unfortunately I’m in Manchester so a bit far to Newport!

The guys at the Ben Nevis Distillery said a few spots of diesel on your cap to keep midges away, might work with tics, a few drops on your riding shoes? And it’s only slightly carcinogenic 😉

Where does commuting on road on a MTB fit in? That’s what I do the most mileage on. I think I’m defo mtb though and have been since owning my raleigh afterburner which was used for messing around in the woods. I have a commuter hybrid which I use through winter / heavy rain when I stick purely to tarmac but just prefer being able to nip through the woods and hop on and off the pavement on the mtb!

Not as many as there are in a quiver? Or maybe 2 bars, left and right of the stem? Dunno really 😕 Did I pass the exam?

The reason I was asking is I like the shape of some off the crank bro’s ones but where I ride the most is very narrow, between fence posts and trees etc. If I bought them I really don’t want to have to cut off the expensive bit with a hack saw 😕

We were in Meribel in ’84 I think. In 5 days it put down 10 foot of snow and none of the lifts were open so I was put in ski 😀 school whilst my folks sat in the hotel bar! Last day we had a perfect clear blue sky but couldn’t ski due to avalanche warnings. Would love to go back some time and see what the skiing is like… 😀

+1 for airport transfers as we have had a few nightmares at Geneva over the last few years (like being charged £120 for dropping the hire car back at the Swiss side when it was hired from the French side).

A supply of basic spares such as cables / chains / tubes / tyres / nut ‘n’ bolts would be useful. A few disc brake pads maybe for the more common types of brake.

Access to a good bike mechanic who can also do suspension repairs would have saved me a lot of hassle on our last trip also!

    Porridge.

    Ibuprofen.

A spare bike to lend out just in case?

Oh and big meals at night!

Is there something stopping you moving the levers in a bit? The grips wouldn’t have to overhang then 😕

Do trees count? If so, yes. Don’t get paid for doing it now though after an injury 🙁

MXers are a pain near me, they ride all the litlle single tracky bits in the woods chewing it up which then turns to sludge when it rains. The also create little gullies where they’ve wheelspun up the hill which makes the descent on a mtb a bit interesting- especially when it has frozen solid. Wish the police’d do something about them here.

It’ll take your mind off the hicups at least 😀

TSY – I’ve had some offers in my time… I’ve also seen Pulp Fiction.

When I set my facility up for paying customers I may ask your advice…

It has a deore deraileur, can’t see anything catching, chain has around 2-3mm clearance from the frame. The derailieur seems to be at its limit so getting pretty convinced it’s the hanger which is not straight.

Cheers for all the advice so far!

Yep, doesn’t seem to make any diference. I may try bending the hanger out slightly tonight to see it it cures it. Other than that a trip to Cooksons at weekend is my next step.

Does anyone have access to a ‘facility’? I was thinking a locked room with no access to nicotine products of any sort for about a month should do it. A bit like Trainspotting without the puking.

Well as someone who has just bought their first 10 in 3 months I can say that smokers / ex-smokers CAN smell smoke from a very long distance – M6 doing 50 in traffic and I could smell the smoke from the car in front 😯

I’ve had 2 so far today and have now slapped a patch on and the rest are going on the log burner tonight, taste like sh!t now so I didn’t even enjoy them!

How long can you use the patches for?

Domains again here, depending on what you want from it I’d go for the 318’s. Stiff reliable and plush. Cheap too!

Phil, the osteopath didn’t really do much for me, it may for you but again he seemed to be looking to cure me when it is a degenerative condition which needs managing instead if that makes sense?

Oh and painkillers, my doc gave me Dihydrocodeine, they helped but definately wasn’t with it when following his dosage and they are quite addictive apparently 😕 If you’re near to Manchester they do a sports rehab I can recomend at Salford Uni.

I ride both hardtail and FS as well as my hybrid commuter. I also have 2 prolapsed discs and 2 degenerative discs. To be honest the type of bike I ride doesn’t seem to affect my back and I would go so far as saying the FS sets my back off more for some reason.

The best advice I could give is go and see a sports rehab / sports physio. I went to NHS physios on numerous occassions and was told to do stretching which aggravated my back more. The Sports rehab guys actually checked my posture and worked on levelling my hips first (which were causing me to limp and back pain). Well worth checking to see what they can do anyway.

Anyway whatever you decide, good luck with it!

Why don’t you speak Ragley and ask them? Rather than making a judgement and complaining on the forum. My mate has the ti one and loves it.

Whilst on the subject of buses I think I may be evolved to be very attuned to the sound of busses approaching from the rear which actually stopped me being squished against some railings last night. Didn’t get a chance to pass on my ‘genes’ though as she was tired.

I’ve just sold three saws on ebay. I have had both Husky and Stihl, I used the husky on a daily basis for nearly 5 years and it was superb, started well, ran well and had plenty of power for a 45cc. My stihl on the other hand whilst not being a ‘professional’ saw (there are diferent levels of saw in Stihls range) was used less often but required more maintenance. My other stihl stuff seems the same – leaf blower, hedge trimmer , pole saw and strimmer- never start as consistently well as the Husky stuff and have had a few breakdowns. So I’d recommend the Husky stuff – look out on ebay for second hand and get it serviced by a dealer and they should be right. Oh and other people have said, get at least foot and leg protection and a helemt with ear defenders and visor.

Ok, thanks, going to have a root through the garage tonight to see if I can cobble enough bits together to make a working one! Was wanting to buy a decent crank as it’s going on a ti 456 (which currently sounds like a clown owns it – creaking bb, threaded crank arm, brakes catching and seatpost creaking like mad). Why did we plan a wedding at the end of my partners maternity leave – we’re skint!
