Don’t forget to renew the sorn after 12 months if needed, they don’t send you a reminder and you’ll get an £80 fine if you don’t do it as I found out!

Seems a bit of a waste to scrap a full calliper just for the sake of a seal especially as they haven’t been used that much. Partly why I’m looking at the hope ones as spares are available, just the initial outlay that is putting me off, and long term reliability. I don’t want to buy something that has spares available because it needs repairing all the time, if that makes sense!

Yeh, had thought of looking but I’ve just found a full set of Juicy 3’s with rotors for £89 at merlin, time and effort and all that!

The hope’s do look nice though…

Not been too pleased with mine, the rear is permanently spongy despite bleeding and the front wails like a cat in a food blender!

Seem to have endless bother with hydraulic discs at the mo, looking at maybe some Hope tech x2’s but not sure if they’ll be any better (I had a set of Hope mini’s when they first came out and they kept seizing up).

My basic deore brakes on the other hand are nearly five years old and have never been touched, still going strong and probably used more than any of my other brakes.

Sticking labels on packs of toilet rolls in a factory as they went past on a conveyor, welding exhausts in a factory that supplied KwikSh!t, about 90 per hour. Worked in a tea bag factory tearing open boxes of seconds and emptying the the contents out, 12 hour shifts for 2 weeks.

Cheers, want something I can stick slicks on and put in the road miles to work and also use at weekends. And obviously having four bikes already just isn’t enough!

I’ve ridden that plenty of times and not accidently ridden the gap, you can also see it from the chairlift as you go up the hill…

Why would you need warning signs?

Maybe a shimano thing, my SLX’s on my Ti456 make a god awful noise on the rear, tried new pads, diferent discs, realigning them, nothing works. I’m even begining to think it may be the frame design resonating or sumfink technical like that 😕

Looks like you’re getting better weather than here anyhow! Been planning a trip to Canada, go see where my gran was from, Sakatoon, and maybe squeeze a bit of biking in whilst I’m there – be rude not to 🙂

Not been stung on here as I’ve not bought owt but have been had twice on ebay (out of about 400 buys and sales), one set of Junior T’s ‘as new’ but were actually **** and repainted and a Prophet frame that was a diferent size than advertised – ebay wouldn’t refund either after numerous calls to their Indian call centre.

Think you will need the smaller on the rear to move the caliper forwards and out of the way more but each frame / rack is diferent so it may work! Good luck with it 🙂

Yeh, my rear brake is post mount to IS on the frame and a 160mm rotor, If the rotor was larger (ie. the caliper further out) it would fit. They did used to do 140mm rotors at one point didn’t they? Mybe that would help?

I have a rack on my Inbred and disc brakes (old Deore ones). I think it is a blackburn one like this:

    http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?q=blackburn+rack&hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=11666202893430915780&sa=X&ei=1y8oToe-NsTJswbgsNyNCQ&ved=0CHwQ8wIwBw

I chopped one of the ends off the rack (the foremost of the 3 ‘prongs’) which was what was stopping it fitting and only had to space it slightly with a few washers then. It has carried my 3 year old in his seat off road with no signs of wear or damage so far.

Fresh trout, local saltmarsh lamb, pickled samphire, sticky toffee puds from the shop in Cartmel, best chips ever at the Old Dungeon Gill, Morecambe bay potted shrimp, Jennings / Yates beers…

My lakeland food normally consists of what you can make on a Trangia though!

If it’s the same one I went on (meeting outside the Library) it was a bit misleading being called an underground tour, was interesting but only got underground towards the end of the tour.

Glad to hear she is ok. It sounds like she is doing the best thing by going on the course.

A friend of mine rolled his renault 5 turbo in a similar way, but he was speeding and clipped a curb / verge on a back lane rolled the car through a hedge, he had no seat belt on and his shoulders went through the sunroof and he was then thrown out through the back window. The police found the car then him about 20 metres away from it in the field. He went to A&E but walked out 2 hours later, very very lucky! He lost his liscence for 12 months because of it though.

You can try penetrating oil overnight, if there is enough head left to get them moving then do as TJ says. Another way is to tighten slightly to begin to break any corrosion . Have you tried putting the torx driver in and whacking it with a hammer, this often helps.

If you strip the torx you can also try a centre punch to try and get things moving if you can get it in in the first place. Otherwise drill the heads off but make sure you’ll be able to get the remains of the bolts out after!

    Swearing loudly also helps 😀

next time it could be a childs face…. Hope he’s ok 😀

Just taken the stabilisers off our 3 year olds bike this afternoon and he’s already doing laps of the lawn and heading for the step down onto the patio 😯

Time for him to put his helmet on! Luckily he hasn’t learnt how to set off properly without help yet though!

I know the route from radcliffe to salford (I live in Prestwich at the mo) following NCN6 up the old railway line but it is like a bog in winter!

Can’t wait to move out of Manchester and live near to some proper hills again.

(Ten years ago / In 1972), a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire… The A-Team.

I’m working on a similar theory but with smoking being the disadvantage. When I quit I presume I’ll be flying up the hills (after a few months of coughing).

On the subject of speed limits, here’s what the Highway code says (scroll down to the table)

I’m presuming that vans come under the category og goods vehicles under 7.5 tonnes.

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Highwaycode/DG_070304

I’ve driven, vans (mainly transits) for years, always at 70 (or there abouts 😉 ) and never had any problems.
