Expect it to arrive at least a month after the date you are given.
Also it might not be the correct colour when it arrives…

The cheapest trek bikes i.e. £300 bikes etc. come from all over the place. I have seen the same bike with different “made in” stickers on it depending on how far through the season it is. Taiwan, China and Pakistan if memory serves correctly. I cant be 100% though as I’m less interested in £300 mountain bikes than £3000 carbon bikes 😀

The real cheap bikes from Raleigh etc. seem to come from Cambodia and Vietnam if you care.

Trek alloy and 3/4/5 series carbon bikes are made in Taiwan by the same factory as giant bikes (giant make bikes for almost everyone such as santacruz, colnago, scott etc.)
The difference in carbon at the low end is not that much in my opinion. A carbon Trek 3 series is probably similar to a planet x.
a 5 series trek madone or domane is very different. The lay up of the carbon will be different around the BB or head tube for example. The bearings may press straight into a net molded carbon headtube/BB shell (trek) rather than an alloy insert (planet x).
Having seen a fair bit of carbon frames in my time I can say for sure that Trek are one of the best. Better than giant or spesh? dunno but better than planet x and a host of other cheap frames yes.

I have seen carbon bikes from Orbea and Wilier that still have bits of bladder from the Mold stuffed into the frame. I have seen Look frames with bits of newspaper still inside the down tube – not exactly high quality. I have worked on IBIS bikes where the headtube had bits of unfinished carbon inside preventing a fork being fitted. I never saw this on a Trek.

Trek Madone 5 series and above frames have fancy KVF tube profiles that “produce an extra 25 watts of power” and make you faster if you choose to believe it.

The Trek 6 and 7 series road bikes (and session 9.9) are all made in the USA.

I suggest you take the bike with the bad paint work but ask for some discount?

Jesus, what kind of ponce uses cutlery? Probably the same kind bourgeois idiot that wants a 9k bike.

Bwaarp – Where do you purchase your clothes from? Asda? I sure hope so. The jeans in Asda are no different from Levis. In fact some of them have an elasticated waist so you don’t even need to have a belt saving even more cash!
Im guessing you purchase your shoes from the local bowling alley? When they replace the hire shoes you can probably pick up a slightly used set for £5.00. In terms of R&D a bowling shoe is not much different to a shoe from Asda.

Anyway no point going on. Arguing on the internet is lame. Im away to cycle my Carbon santacruz bike to marks and spencer to purchase my lunch.

No my point was comparing a bike to a 2nd hand car is pointless.
The motorbike argument is silly though. We all understand economies of scale etc.

My point I guess was that santacruz make a bronson for all budgets.
Hell I would never buy one at 9k but I might get an alloy for 3k at some point – who knows.

I’m not sure why you think anyone is a tool for buying one? Are you jealous of those who can afford it? Do you hate Ferrari owners?

    OOOOOHHHHHHH a 2nd hand focus!!!!!111111
The 9k Bronson is a team replica bike. If you purchase it you are getting more or less the exact same bike as Ratboy, Peat and Minnaar.

If you can point me in the direction of where I can purchase a team replica Focus WRC car as driven by Petter Solberg etc. then please do let me know.

For regular riders who are not racing etc. Why not look at the Alloy Bronson frame and build it up with a deore groupset? You can probably get it built for under £2700.

FYI Orbea bikes (carbon anyway but assume all) are not built in spain.
Assembled perhaps some even painted but made in spain they are not.

Any Trek dealer would be able to get the parts on warranty for you but the labour would not be covered so you could expect to pay for that along with any postage charges.

    Haha,

To be honest last time I walked down rosemount I thought the locals were looking a little scabby!
Trail rat would have probably fitted in mind.

How long are you looking to rent for?

Trail Rat is pretty spot on but there are a few other areas to avoid (though its prob obvious)

Do you have a car an what area will you be working in?

I just got in from a couple of runs.
Its very wet and a bit boggy in bits but the course is not damaged in anyway what so ever so far as I could see.

I never rode the new or “05” course as its obviously going to be churned up after a race.

The original track is fine just wet.

Kirkhill on the other hand is gubbed!

    Richiesilverfish,
You said that “our network of IBDs across the country ensure that I care!” What did the network of IBDs say when CRC were selling turner frames at crazy cheap prices? Who supplied them to CRC was it silverfish or did they get them direct from turner or something?

I know that bloke knows a thing or two about hand cycles (pro racer).
If you were to email him he could probably offer advice.
Extremely nice bloke and whilst I dont think he can tell you where to test ride Im sure he can offer some suggestions.

One of my mates is a DJ and wanted to clear out his old stuff that he doesnt play out.
He has given it to me for free. The hiphop stuff is so vast I cant even start to list it. The pop stuff is is only a couple of boxes of 7″ but the hip hop has to be in the region of 500 to 700 records with a mix of albums and singles. Its got some more current stuff too but its mainly 80s and 90s.

This seems like a good thread to ask….

I have aquired a MASSIVE collection of 90s hip hop and 80s pop on vinyl but have no way to play it.
Can anyone suggest a sub £350 hifi for me and where I can get one?
At present I only have an Ipod docking station.

Get that and save money/get in free to some cool tourist things. It was well worth the cash for me.

    http://www.bikenewyork.org/ride/five-boro-bike-tour/
Not sure if that will float your wifes boar as its about 50 miles.
I hired bikes and rode it with my wife last year. It was amazing – a closed road bike tour taking you all round new york at a nice pace. You get to ride over brooklyn bridge etc which obviously you cant normally do. People of all abilitys rode it so no pressure.

I loved just walking about and taking in the sites. I also felt very safe no matter where we were as the cops were always visible and often asked if we needed directions etc.

The only thing I wish I had done but never is http://www.intrepidmuseum.org/
It has a space shuttle and an SR71A which I would have LOVED to see along with kick ass things like P47 thunderbolts etc.

Lastly I found out on the 2nd last day that tipping bellow 20% is an insult and 30% is the norm :-/
I guess I insulted a lot of people on my trip!
