Bike cam?

Security camera?

No control over the lens unfortunately. The lens is a sealed unit and its about the only thing I haven’t been able to recover/make functional. (Otherwise I would still have a working camera….)

I was thinking of seeing if I could connect the card reader to a microUSB cable and tinker with hooking it up to an android tablet….

Not sure about the Film playing idea. The LCD screen is a low res 3 inch unit.

Anyone have any inspiration for me?

Thanks Alpin – good website. The German is no problem – I live in Innsbruck 🙂

I’m heading for Riva del Garda, so northern edge of the lake. All the times I’ve been before the roads have been choked with expensive cars being driven very fast, so I was hoping to find some advice to avoid that!

Dry and dusty trails are about as common as Yeti’s over here: they’re both everywhere!

Not sure about the climbing… who wants to watch someone climbing anyway? I do enough climbing myself without wanting to watch someone else doing it!

Its this one:

Trail Headset

It says its out of stock, but I would suggest giving the guys at Qwerty cycles a call – the’ve always answered all of my questions, and they may know when its coming back in.

The word “drawing” pronounced “drawring” = knitting needle in eye socket.

I think you mind find that Intrusive R to be an established part of English english

Carbonzone wheels here too.

They’ve survived a full cross season with no complaints! Obviously CX has no heat warp problems though!

ME!

Exercise in the morning is great for the soul, not to mention the fitness benefits too!

Even if you just blast around a 8 – 9 mile loop for half an hour, you’re going to be much fitter than not doing so. Once you make it a habit to get out and train, you can gain so much fitness from just an extra hour on the bike.
I tend to do 30 minutes – 1 hour of exercise before work (either a short spin on the road bike, or core workouts, or weights), and then do a proper ride in the afternoon. I tend to do ‘double day’ twice or three times per week, and ride once every other day, other than Friday which is off.

It sounds like you are pro-active in the treatment for your problems, so my usual advice of “Get a Proper Bike Fit” has already probably been taken!

I would say that if you can afford it, it won’t hurt to try a FS I have an identical fit on a Full suspension and a hardtail (scalpel 29er and Flash 29er, both XC race bikes), and I choose the full suspension for the longer races and more technically demanding trails. I find I’m less beaten up after riding the Scalpel, but I still need to stretch, and warm down properly afterwards to avoid the ‘run over by a lorry’ feeling.

I have had lots of back problems growing up, so always think of my back and core when making bike choices.

Iron Horse Classic, Durango Colorado. The race goes through a brewery on each of the five laps, then exits through the back door and drops down a one story ramp to the street below!!

Spring arrived in Austria this week, so I rode up to the highest snow-free Alm I could find, then drank a Radler to celebrate.

Explored on the way back down to find some lovely singletrack, and practice my switchback skillz.

Did 240 km over the weekend on the road. I hoping for some singletrack to be dry in the next few weeks, but for the mean time I’m content to explore the local tarmac. Starting from Innsbruck, I did my best to get to Italy, but even with the recent warm temperatures, there’s still a little bit too much snow to make it over the pass. I’ll be back next weekend to give it another shot.

OK, so consensus seems to be with British airway rather than anything else. This works fine for me as they fly all the routes I’m generally travelling.

Seems like some people do very well with juggling the points and others gain almost no benefit. By the amount I fly I feel like I should gain something, so maybe I’ll update this thread in a couple months!

I run sealant, and every other Elite XC rider I know runs sealant too. (Including in their tubs, which are getting ever more common).

Which result would my team prefer? Getting outsprinted because I’m carrying an extra 60g, or having to fix a flat or DNF?

**Alumni of Bath Uni CC** (Hi Doug!)

Things to consider:

– All uni towns are full of ‘hot’ girls
– Neither Bath nor Loughborough are renown for their nightlife.
– The sports facilities are equally mind blowing at both Bath and Loughborough.

Things that actually matter to you:

– Bath has MTB trails from campus, in every direction. And they’re good.
– In Bath, you don’t have to walk around in purple.
– Sport Science at Bath has a very good reputation for finding employment for its graduates. That, in the end, is all that matters.

I went to Bath on a ‘TASS’ scholarship, for athletics. The support was phenomenal, with amazing personal and medical care. I switched to cycling after getting the inevitable runners injuries, and was welcomed by the cycling club/team. Like Doug said, the team has nurtured many international calibre athletes, you won’t be alone. I am currently racing Elite XC (but not in the UK anymore).

If you have any more questions, the Bath Uni CC guys are very friendly. Ask them some questions.

Have fewer bikes

This isn’t an option! Three bikes is bare minimum, and it will most likely head back up to four once I have next years race bike. I resigned to bikes in the living room, and I suppose it might be more of an incentive to clean them regularly too. I’ll be having a look at those bike trees too, looks like the only solution.

Rent the flat next door too?

If I could afford the flat next door, I wouldn’t be moving 🙂

Lovely Tour de Exmoor with a new riding companion on Saturday. Sun shining, not too much wind, and more horses than cars.

(clicky to view details)

View looking back towards Porlock bay from the top of Dunkery Beacon. We rode up Mill Lane, rather than straight up past webber’s post. Longer and Steeper climb, but drops down a couple times through Horner Woods. Lovely and quiet.

By the time I was heading home, there were ACTUAL dry patches on the road. It was magic

Cyclocross bikes are excellent. great weekend on Exmoor!

Miles split roughly 50:50 between road and MTB, so hours-wise, a lot more time on the mountain bike.

Was pretty ill for part of June, and it shows in the hours, and my race results in July/August. Nov/Dec should just not be mentioned!!

Great, that’s really good to hear. I’ve had a couple things replaced under warranty by them before, and they’ve always been excellent.

I’ll give them a ring in the morning and see what they say.

I’ve lived in the US for three years now, and in one of the more dangerous states according to that pathetic graph up there.

And in summary, NO, I wouldn’t buy a gun. I don’t know anyone that owns one, I never see them out and about, even when I head to the big city for a night out, or walk through the scary mexican neighborhoods looking for some good tamales.

I ride my bike all over the place, at night alone, walking wherever and whenever I want and not once have I felt like having a gun would do me any good. Think about it – if a gangster with a gun stops you, is he going to be scared by a 65 kg white boy with his arm shaking whilst pointing the gun he’s never fired?

and P.S. Yellowstone is absolutely fantastic. Enjoy your trip.

I was lucky enough to find mine pretty quickly, maybe 3rd or 4th attempt. I bought a Specialized Epic which came with a low end BG saddle that was excellent, so I decided to stay with specialized and get a ‘Romin’ for my road bike.

Within a month, all my bikes had them. I’ve ridden 6,000 plus miles on them this year spread over 4 different bikes.

Like Marty says, numbers here in the US are crazy. We have these categories:
SM 55+
SW 4
SM 4 / SM 3
Single Speed
SM 45+
SM 45+_4 / SM 35+_4
Pre J/Preview
SM 35+
SM 35+_3
JM/JW 13-14 / JM/JW 10-12
JM/JW 17-18 / JM/JW 15-16
SW Open / SW 35+
SM Open

We regularly have over 1000 people racing each day. Fields are always limited to 100 people, and it makes it much more sensible.

I know you’ve already said you discounted Bath, but might be worth taking a second look. I graduated two years ago, and the cycling club is ace – don’t worry about lack of support! We’ve won BUCS plenty of times, and we have world cup XC racers lurking around campus, so you certainly won’t be the fastest in the club!
Take a look at the facebook page to get an idea of what goes on. The trails around campus are great and there is a lot of riding to keep you busy. Probably also the only campus with a DH track leaving from the Uni Halls!

If you want any more specific info send me an email. Also, academics wise, its hard to get any better.

OK, so I’m going for the Clutch mech for the innovation, but what about a blunder? Not really sure the pricing of a mudguard counts as a technical failure. Trying to focus on actual new stuff thats only just got out there.

Yawn…………..

Yeah, I’m going to avoid the wheel size debate. I personally think 650b is great, but I’m not sure any wheelsize is a 2012 innovation. They’ve all been around for a long long time at this point.

Kitz_Chris

The clutch rear mech is a good candidate. When did they really start appearing? I haven’t seen many around yet, so I’m sure it’s pretty new technology still.

Seatposts failing is not a 2012 problem!

makes me poo if I take too much

This is exactly the reason I do drink coffee before racing! Clears out the system if you will. Just make sure you have enough time before racing for it to take effect. Gives me a good feeling of an empty stomach which really helps when the suffering starts.

I stick to one cup though, so nowhere near 200mg. I usually use Carborocket when racing, too, which has a small amount of caffeine in it.

Hey Leogang,

You should contact Rob at Mountain Edge. He’s already running a pretty successful operation down the road in Kitzbuhel. It might be something he could help you out with, if he’s not interested himself. his email is “rob AT mountainedge.co.uk”

Yep, vast majority still on Canti’s. It was really dry here though, so not much need. I heard a few rich sod’s talking about their ‘other’ race bike having discs….
