we’ve been to Les Carroz – on the road up to Flaine – for the past 3 years. This is about 40 mins from Chamonix and is way quieter. There is a range of marked routes up there. Maps from the Tourist office.
The one that looks a cracker is from the top of the cable car at Flaine, heading north (?) to Sixt, then you could head down to Samoens, and either ride back up & over to Les Carroz, or hopefully the chair would be open.

Thanks for that. 2 out of the 3 then – rubbish and broken.
Handy time – 3 days before we set off on holiday……..

We stayed here – half timbered, in the old part of town. V characterful, friendly owners, secure parking.
    Troyes definatly worth a visit.

Mostly rideable? I’m still recovering from the beating I got for taking the family down a goat track with 40′ drops at the side. Strange kids seemed quite happy……………

We have an inhouse scheme, which just involves a simple agreement between employee & employer. Let me know if you need a copy of this – e-mail me at

it gets easier when they get past 5 yrs old and want to go biking themselves – getting a pass is a lot easier in response to “Dad can we go to Laggan this weekend?”

Thanks guys – off to see my mate at the engineering works – probably should have gone there before I messed it up myself!!.

It’s too late for that – the small bit of the post that was protruding is now cracked – so it will have to be some way of either cutting it out, or gripping it from the inside – screw in threaded bar etc…….

Islabikes come with a sensible range of gears. We had to change rear cassette to a Shimano mega range on both 20″ kids bikes. Other than that spesh Hotrocks were great & saw lots of service. Made one mistake of the overweight/underpriced bike – don’t do that!

    How much is it?

Forgot the most important bit of advice – change the standard cassette for a shimamo mega range one – that gives a really low first gear that will let them cycle up most hills. The rear mech does cope ok with it.
Otherwise 1st gear isn’t low enough.

Our kids have had the Hotrocks, and they have been great. The 20″ one lasted 2 years and is now outgrown. During that time he was never off it. The forks actually worked – have seen some others which were way too rigid for kids.

Wish ours was – wouldn’t cost so much to feed

Specialised Hotrock has been beaten to a pulp over the past 2 years – with a big grin!

Just to reiterate MrNutt – there is next to no admin for the company to run the scheme itself – just use the template agreement that you can find on the web – if you need I will send you ours.

If you live near a Decathlon they have a good range – kid specific, & various adult ones – at about half the cost of mainstream brands.

Getting out more sounds good – it’s the contrast between the old & new bie that struck me – kinda took the excitement of having a new bike – hence it’s potential to go on the transfer list!

Thanks, most of my riding is north Scotland natural trails – single track through the woods, rough hill tracks. Looks like the high rollers get most votes?

Just checked & it’s got 2.35 Ignitors on. Will do a wee trial & swap for the contis on the old bike

Thanks for all that, that will at least postpone the Dawg’s listing in the classified section!

I wondered that too – any suggestions for replacements for all round Scotand use. I also wonderd if this was just tweaking round the edges rather than making a noticable difference.
