That’s true – was being swayed by %discount rather than overall suitability!

ordered one from a uk ebay seller at 10pm mon night, arrived 9am wed morning – brilliant. the £28 light is brighter than the 3 year old dx bastid that is still going strong. the p7 has orange peel reflector beam pattern looks good – shame it’s for 12 yr old son! off out to weather proof battery – killed original dx battery on 1st outing so don’t want to repeat that!

Cheers for that – we will check out all those options.
We are doing forest management work in rural locations so the risk of injury is pretty low.

In that case you should either a. Not do the TMB or b. Do one of the sanitised versions that avoid the hike a bike by using road sections.

    Sound advice!
The single track looks so amazing that I do want to do it, but just make sure I get enough advice to tailor the route. I want to avoid playing roulette with the 3 or 4 options for each section – and end up missing some grate bits and have hikbike instead (up or down!)

I am sute there must be some other equally good 3-4 day rides in the alps but without the same extreme technical bits.

I agree with all of those thoughts. I HATE hikabike, but would tolerate some of it if it is unavoidable! Particularly if it accesses the peachy single track in the photos. I will get the maps & start to piece together a route. I certainly want to do the lightweight unsupported so can get the proper experience of staying up high in the Alps.

It does sound good – this one is a bit more upbeat.

Dont fancy it solo & SS!!
Would be doing it with a couple of others, and stay in refuges.

I’d look for a more reliable solution.

We are looking at them as a more reliable solution than mobile phones, for folk in remote but not particularly dangerous locations. An advantage over epirb would seem to be that they can be used to check in – that they are OK, give a heads up that they have a problem – but not life threatening, or HELP.
    Where are they unreliable?

Maybe we need to get one to trial it first.

Point taken – £100 is not a bad deal!

No it doesn’t. The subsciption is abt 100euros a year

Best deals I found were on bike-discount.de and they arrived in 4 days from Germany

senditnow.com – basically parcelforce online – but cheaper. about £12 for 24 hr delivery. never had a problem with box size/weight etc. Always found them good.

Presumably stuff from EU is subject to same potential charges – thinking of Bike-discount.de?

Have always had mixed feelings about the facilities at Laggan.
Could never understand how it could be commercially viable – busy summer weekends but dead during the week.
It has been a great mixed ability venue, especially with kids.
Didn’t like all the ‘Irritated from Laggan’ notices – take your litter home, don’t eat picnics, dont ask for technical advice (OK I won’t but I also won’t buy any parts)
Unhelpful attitude in the cafe – we’ll be too busy to have a kids party (they weren’t but missed out on £££ as we brought a BBQ)
The uplift is closed today – no driver due to the shinty club hoolie last night)
    Great cakes

However with no facilities I think usage will really fall off – will FC bother maintainng the trails then?

For stuck post in an aluminium frame we tapped a thread on the inside of the post, screwed in a bolt welded onto the end of a slide hammer, couple of knock on the hammer & it was out.

Oh lordy – I should’ve known there wouldn’t have been an easy answer!

Looks like I should be getting some not too skinny Ralphs. They will not be tubeless (because she is only 14, and gets way too much sports kit as it is!)And I won’t pump them up too hard.

Thanks for all the advice – just wish I was going down too!

I would be a bit worried about waiting til nearer the time – I usually wait til approx 24 hours before an important event then start to panic, go shopping, pay through the nose for something that is less than ideal!!
Then I get a bollocking from her for failing in my team mechanic duties!!

Cheers, The cable is not seized & the bit on the top of the forks moves OK – I think something is broken inside the lever – this no longer pulls the cable. How did you convert it to turn key lockout?

Yep mines got one of those in the switch end cap. Mine has aproblem that it keeps changing modes when I go over a bump – not handy for mountain biking
