Shark bait – actually there is a house already. Our existing house is at the end of the overhead line. We want to build a new house opposite. The o/h line is barely adequate for the existing house – the lights dim when you turn the shower on, and certainly not adequate for an additional house.

That’s interesting thanks. The current supply is verging on inadequate- the lights dim when someone goes on the shower!
As with many things a diplomatic negotiation might get some results.

At least that focuses efforts on getting a grid connection rather than getting diverted looking at 101 alternatives!

That sounds expensive, and unfortunately gas is even further away!

    No significant hydro options
Site is flat, but trees to south which limits solar. Was wondering about diesel with some storage.
There is a supply to a house opposite, but it’s inadequate for another house. The electric co want a new supply to be undergrounded, which would be very difficult due to ground conditions. I’m not clear why the existing overhead cannot be upgraded.

When is your trip? We live close to inverness airport, and could poss help out with logistics – eg taking/storing your bike bags when you arrive if that helps. Can either point you in right direction for camping close to the airport, or have a suitable field at our house. Feel free to message me

We were in Canezei last summer when the EWS was on. That was a smart place & there seemed to be lots of trails. We did a guided ride of Sella Ronda tour which was ace – we’d never have found half the trails we rode.

They all sound great, thanks for the suggestions. However it turns out we wont be that close to Stuttgart (one of the perils of trying to plan routes on a phone screen)- we’ll be further west on the A5 near Baden Baden, so Karlsruhe could work………

A group of parents took on organising the d of e at the local secondary school about 4 years ago. This has been really successful, and this coming year about 80 kids will be doing bronze silver & gold awards. The parent committee do everything, and most of the expeds are organised in house – walking & cycling. Outside providers have done paddleboard & canoe expeds – but that does rack up the cost which has to be raised

Tis the usual story – small number of parents doing a lot. Succession will be a problem – there was the initial group of parents, but as their kids move on there isn’t a second wave of parents following to take over. I have helped out for 3 years on the cycling expeds & have just agreed to take over the cycling, whilst my mate has a break. So will be getting MTB leader etc It’s been satisfying helping other kids get the opportunity to go mountain biking & it’s been good craic.

Not done it with kids in tow, but helped out on a d of e exped that used this as part it the route. Pretty route, let’s you see a different view of the great glen. Think the kids took about 6 hours with trailers. Not sure how you’d get bikes to ft William from inverness though…

STILL ferrying youngest (16yo) around, sigh……

This weekend to Feshiebridge with other dads & their similar aged lads – biking (getting left for dead by young uns), wee bit of drinking (which they are better at), karting (getting left in tyre smoke), and generally thinking what a great bunch of lads, and that the effort of dragging em up mountains etc when they were wee was well worth it!

And feeling mighty sad that it’s coming to an end….. FFS how did that happen

PS Not to be sexist – Ditto above for Girl, who’s planning next seasons EWS

We were there a year ago & like you wanted to organise a couple of days riding. We booked bikes & a guide with Argan Tours riding near Asni. It was good, love the riding, fair bit of single track. Not that technical but great fun. It was expensive – European prices, but the guide & driver for sure weren’t getting Euro pay – which grated a bit, particularly after we’d been there for a few days & tuned in to the local prices. Turns out that most of the guiding companies are American or European. I think Imlil mtb are local. Imlil is spectacular, and I reckon there would be some amazing riding. Really keen to go back……..

Aye that’s what would have thought re tape width – just been doing my head in!

    kitebikeski

Cheers. The tape’s wide enough – pretty much full width of rim. I was also reading a blog from a mechanic that reckoned he had more problems with tape that was the full width of the rim than just covering the holes.

    Will try warming & scourer!

Have the same van. I built 2 wooden ‘benches’ that go over the wheel arches. Bikes go across the van front wheels off & sit on the benches. I made supports for the forks – 1″ (I think) alcathene water pipe attached to approx. 6″ squares of ply. Whole lot is strapped down to the load rings. Benefit of having bikes raised up is that there is still a large accessible load space under. We managed to get 6 bikes in & kit for 2 weeks under. Hope that makes sense!

    OK cheers for that.

Canyon said they would send parts details, but not received yet – prob not surprising!!

No – bizarrely! I had kinda assumed that it was a case of getting aftermarket ones, but will do that. Mind you if warranty process is anything to go on it will take a while!

Think we are stuck with the trailers – they need to be self sufficient for the 2 nights. Last year they tried out panniers and universally voted for trailers. They are looking for something 55-100 miles – depending on the surfaces & route. It doesn’t have to be a loop.
