orangespyderman and jambalaya thank you, both, for your offers! I’ll need to see how the interview goes, first ;)

The job’s with the OECD and to answers orange’s question, the job ad states: “Depending on level of experience, monthly salary starts at either … EUR or … EUR, plus allowances based on eligibility, exempt of French income tax.

globalti, shame about your experience. It’s an international agency I’d be working for so hopefully no overt office politics re: my nationality, but since the interview’s in Paris I’ll hopefully get a feel for the office environment. I’m not great at meeting people, but as a photographer I’m sure I’ll at least get out of the apartment!

    What area is the job?

Geographical area? A block south of the Eiffel Tower.

    He means rent, I assume.

Yes I do! Wage on offer is about 3x that and tax free.

Looking forward just to visiting, even if I don’t get the job (highly likely :D ).

I am single :D Does this mean that French people are friendly, or that they like les Ecossais?

The job would be very well paid, so 2000 EUR a month is easily manageable.

How about living in France in general, compared with the UK. I have a chronic medical condition and rely heavily on the NHS, so getting the same level of care is something I’d worry about.

Thanks for everyone’s comments so far, by the way!

I’ve found London to feel quite claustrophobic, but a more open city sounds good! I don’t speak any French at all so I suppose they’ll all think I’m an arsehole ;)

How expensive is it to live there? e.g. you hear about how ridiculous rents are in London. Is Paris the same?

The interview is in Paris so I’ll try and stay an extra day and check it out.

I’ve worked for a big cinema chain twice and never been instructed by management to search for food. In 30 years of going to the cinema, I’ve never been searched, nor seen anyone be searched. It’s a shit enough job being an usher at a cinema that the last thing you want to do is antagonise your customers (sorry, ‘guests’). And plenty of people do buy food at the concessions stands; they’re usually not grumpy middle-aged know-it-alls either ;)

Greg, to respond to your last post (Barbara), I don’t think there’s any problem with how you’ve lightened her face. I think where it doesn’t work for me is that her hands are darker than her face. If they were the same tone it would, IMO, look better.

I’m in a sort-of similar position. My toes are wide, but my heel is really narrow. So I end up a size bigger than I would normally wear but I can’t get the heel properly secure.

Just noticed it’s the wrong forum…

Aye, looking at rental prices and it seems pretty expensive. Don’t think I’ll be paid much either.

I was thinking MTB, but I suppose I’ll take what I can get!

My godparents’ eldest was the mine manager at Lochaline before it shut. He took me inside when I went to visit him for a few days – great place! The sand was basically dynamited out of the face, and then scooped into dump drunks to drive out. Was pretty expensive to run as their kit was always breaking down, and I think the machine which drilled and installed the dynamite was Polish so they had no idea what a lot of the labels on the controls were :D

There’s a load of photos on the Canmore archive, both ‘historic’ and from when it was operational (probably 10+ years ago now).

    Like this?

This is probably one of the more extreme ones I’ve done recently. Others can be more subtle. Depends what you have in mind for the final photo. I use Lightroom. You can see [most of] the adjustments I’ve made in the panel. There’s also a graduated filter on the sky to reduce the exposure a little.

The photo was taken at night, by the way :D
