The Sony A6000 is supposed to be excellent, although maybe still a bit chunky. My mate had his Fuji XM-1 (?) which is really compact and takes great photos. Mine have had some processing too ;)

We watched a couple of guys coming down from the summit, but on walking up reckoned it was beyond my (and definitely Mike’s) abilities!

I didn’t get any flats. Mike got two, including a silly one. I think after the second one on the descent he lost confidence, but we were near the bottom anyway. I think having a full-sus got me out of a lot of trouble on those water bars. Some of them are quite sizeable!

Of course, for ultimate sanctimonious cockbaggery, you should be on Linux and using a massive suite of free programs:

    My Open Source Photography Workflow

FWIW, I reluctantly signed up to LR CC as it’s the only one that currently appears to support my camera’s RAW files. Still own CS5.5 and LR5 (not paid for by me :) ).

Perhaps it’s not an indication of centralisation, but I just wanted to gripe about it ;) I don’t see how the bill can progress without some firm legislation about triggers for challenging legitimately owned assets, from a rurally naive central government.

Perhaps he could point to some evidence of this?

Friend of my parents was a Labour councilor in Edinburgh, but jumped to SNP. After a year of being told not to step out from the party line, they quit. SNP councilor in Dumfries also eventually quit when they were told not to challenge what came from up high.

I would disagree that the SNP are ‘communist’, but they are heavily centralised. Look at Police Scotland, the Named Persons thing, proposal to centralise health records, Land Reform, etc. and you can see why people who aren’t blinded by the light shining out of Sturgeon’s arse might be a little concerned.

I’ve been a bunch of times, with varying degrees of success! You can get away without a tripod if you have a steady hand. I have photos at ISO800 and 1/6s, and the noise isn’t too bad because there’s so much light around. There are also wooden handrails around the loch which you can perch the camera on for longer exposures.

That said, you’ll get better photos with a tripod ;) Every time I’ve been, the forest/loch has been very sheltered so you don’t need a sturdy tripod or sandbag! Just set the 2s timer on the shutter (or use a remote) and you’ll be fine. I’d say use aperture priority, set ISO 400 (or less), aperture to f5 – 6.3 and you’ll probably get some longish exposures, depending what the camera’s deciding to meter for. If it’s windy, you can drop the aperture and/or bump the ISO to get much faster shutter speeds and avoid blurring of the trees.

Other than that, have fun, and show us your photos when you’re done! I’m going up next week and looking forward to it :)

Meh, missed the best of last night’s Aurora here in Edinburgh. You may (or not) be able to see a faint green glow in this one! Not exactly ‘proud’ of this photo, but glad I got out of bed to see something.

It was actually pretty busy up there. Lots of folk decided to go up to watch it, but I’d also arranged to meet a friend so strength in numbers :)

Not seen the latest one, but agree with binners about the direction the show’s gone. The first couple of series were genuinely inspiring, interesting, creative houses. Proof that you didn’t need to chuck loadsamoney at something to get a fantastic place to live. Many were renovations and reinterpretations of spaces, rather than vanity projects. But hey ho, Channel 4 obviously know their audience…

I used to have an Activator, until someone lifted it from the stairs. Spent many happy days on it as a teenager. Not sure how… ;) Had always wanted an Activator 2, not knowing any better at the time!

I used to live at the top of Dean Park Street and the shops at the bottom end changed over quite regularly in the 3+ years I was there. Hope they last. Had never heard of them before this thread!

Aye, and all the reviews were good too, good DXo Mark scores, etc. But for the money, poor show with the flare control. And it was broken…

Well, turns out the lens was a) a dud and b) a disappointment.

I had a problem with the AF so was going to send it back anyway, but then a night photographing fireworks revealed some weird flaring issues. Turns out another local photographer had the same issue. Shame, as it was really sharp and nice to use :(

Well **** me, what a pain in the backside that was. Today I finally got my money back. It took a month for the seller to agree to a refund, and it’s taken nearly another month (and a Paypal dispute) for them to give me my refund since I sent the lens back. Bunch of ****.

What were you thinking that the “glam” part of “glamping” referred to?

I thought “glam” was relative in this context, not absolute. Sleeping in something with a floor instead of a tent for example? Not a hut made from an old canoe, or a tree house, or an artisan hand-carved gypsy wagon with it’s own solarium. Clearly I was extremely naive :/
