I’m surprised it’s taken so long for someone to post this

I hope it works, I’m a bit rubbish with links.

I think it nicely sums up the reasons many Americans carry guns, it’s about fear etc. I carry a penknife, always have, use it for all sorts of things including peeling fruit and I would never consider it a self defence item yet others do. However guns only really have one purpose when carried outside a range and that’s where the issues lie.

FWIW I’ve shot a number of handguns and rifles and appreciate a well engineered piece of kit and the feeling of accomplishment you get from being an accurate shot.

Rostrevor it is then, perhaps with a call into Castlewellan on the way back, or we may save that for Tuesday!

Benson330 cheers, not a bad idea. An hour though, Afan climbing or Llandegla climbing? Also, how long does it take to get there from south side of Belfast? Talking to the relatives you’d think it was the moon!

Will try most foods as I come from a food loving background. I also like to clear my plate especially if I like what it is, even if I’m full.

I didn’t really like tomatoes as a kid after eating a glut of them and being sick, had a similar experience with banana. Both fine with now.

Not a fan of smelly fish cooking but will eat it once cooked, so it’s more about smell than taste for me.

I must admit I was concerned Kip Jr was a picky eater as I’ll eat pretty much anything and she won’t, but actually, after reading this post…no, I think we’re doing fine. We do almost exactly what Cookeaa says and this seem to work. I’m sure she’s tried more foods than I had by her age and has a better idea of when she’s full than I do.

Hmm, looking like Beddgelert may get a call. Haven’t been that way for a while and it would be nice to revisit old haunts.

Footflaps – that looks nice and there’s a play park as well, great for Kip Jr.

How bad were the midges? Annoying or not too bad?

Depends on how good you are with your chain routine. I use juice lubes viking lube but it’s best on a clean chain and you need to apply 3 or 4 layers to get the best out of it.
If you’re predominantly riding in the dry their dry lube is good too and the ceramic is amazing.
I got a load of freebies as a prize and always go back to the viking using it on all my bikes, road or MTB.

I work for a small distributor in the bike industry and see things from the other side. Some shops are great, some I dread talking to. Some love what they do, some I cannot understand why they ever chose to open a shop. Some pay their bills on time, some always go into the 90 column because “you need to email or ring me to get me to pay, I’m just too busy.” This was after emailing him 3 reminders!

I am also a customer at my LBS who know who I work for, we supply them stuff. I ride regularly with them, and get on well with many staff, but my word, some are snobbish twonks who treat me like I know nowt because I’m a lass.

I’m sure some shops we deal with think we’re rubbish sometimes because we get things wrong. It all goes around but we try our best and try to be nice and professional, it’s all you can do really. Shame not everyone sees that.

    Cheers.

I know she can do 1 to 1 or small group coaching too so was thinking of that. I know Tony is generally regarded as the best but it’s time and money for travel/staying away that rules him out…boo.

There’s also the Rafferty brothers – pro ride guide, but again too far away.

He seems to be sitting comfortably enough next to me!

He was a bit freaked out by it tbh, it’s not quite what you expect on a night ride, doggers perhaps but caning?

Are they the same pad or the same make of pad?

Personally I love my Gore Xenon bibs but I am a lady. They cost a fortune and wouldn’t buy again because of that, so I’m waiting for Chapeau to do women’s kit as it’s hard to get women’s bibs at a reasonable price.

Upgraded from a Wildfire the other month. First tried the Samsung Ace II but it didn’t have flash on it and I just didn’t like it, so went for the Desire X. I really like it but it does seem a lot flimsier than the Wildfire.

I read somewhere the Desire X doesn’t have gorilla glass and as the Wildfire did that seems a bit annoying. I never used a case on the Wildfire and it looked barely used after 2 years general abuse, whereas the X already has a couple of tiny scratches on the screen. I have now purchased a case and screen protector.

Mate of mine just got a pair of Pave shorts (with green pad) from these guys.

    http://www.chapeaucycling.co.uk/chapeau-clothing/bib-shorts.html

He loves them and thinks the quality is right up with better known brands. Pretty chuffed with the price too. They are very road orientated (as are most of the other brands you mentioned) and new on the scene but getting good customer feedback so far on Facebook.

Dunno if the price is what you’re willing to pay, but they seem pretty well thought out. Mate did say that they are selling through key local bike shops too if you want to take a look at them, no difference in prices in store or on-line.

Mine was plated about 6 days after the initial break as it was in bits and rotated somewhat! Fixed lovely but even after fairly extensive physio my right shoulder sits more forward then the left.

Ask about different types of sling as the standard one just exacerbates the problem. If I’d known I’d have researched and asked about the figure of 8 style.

I’ve also seen people with plated clavicles sitting up on turbos pretty soon after, all I know is I was knackered for weeks after surgery.

luffy105 – lost it or lent it to some fecker who didn’t return it? Pretty sure that’s what happened to mine. Apparently being made into a 4 part tv series by Mr P’s own company.

A hardback (and if possible signed) copy of her favourite book that she keeps going back to over and over again.

I have read and re-read Terry Pratchett/Neil Gaiman’s Good Omens over the last 20 or so years. Simple but beautifully written book (in my opinion) that still makes me laugh and feel generally good about life. I was gutted when I lost my original copy and have replaced it accordingly.

I’m not recommending it to your daughter I’m just saying that a nice copy of a well loved book will be treasured for the memories that reading it gave her.

If my hazy sports science memory recalls correctly, aspartame contains phenylalanine. This is found naturally in the body and is used to create energy (in the Krebs cycle?), however, excessive amounts are not recommended, especially for children, because they can cause mental retardation.

That gem comes from Tortora – Essentials of anatomy and physiology.

Hmmm, now make your milk/diet coke choice!

Glad to hear toddler North is ok and that your scenario was pretty much what I thought.

If it’s anything though, I was well chuffed that I’d given advice to someone on here and they’d actually taken it; although I’m guessing from your post that you were already on the phone when I suggested it. Ah well, I’ll pretend it was me, makes me feel all good inside!

TT – go easy ‘ey. The OP is talking to a professional, as suggested, and he’s getting it sorted.

Sometimes we all forget about the most obvious and easiest answer especially if the child in question doesn’t seem phased. I guess he was just looking for a bit more advice to go on top of his gut feeling about the child he can see and he knows best.

    Second opinions never hurt.

Hope Toddler North is Ok, and well done on the big bed. Still waiting for Small Kip’s first proper launch out of hers!

This is not a Dad only thing, trust me! I’m great at the out and about with Small Kip(similar age to OP’s daughter) but sometimes really struggle with the other indoor stuff. Small really likes my attention, maybe because I’m mum and spend more time with her, but I always used to wonder how Mr Kip managed to keep her amused and do his own stuff.

The answer is to include her in what you’re doing. Small loves to go to the shed and sort stuff. She loves to help fix the bikes. She loves to move sand from her sandpit to anywhere else. She loves to do stuff and hear you say “well done.” Cooking is a winner too. Jumping on the bed…winner! Water play…winner!

Don’t stress too much, you’re daughter loves you for who you are…Daddy, and to be honest that’s why men and women are different, so their kids get different experiences.

We camped last “summer” ion a big family tent with extra layers and covers and Small Kip still woke up cold. After chatting with my hardcore regular cold weather camping Canadian cousins they recommended:-
    1. Small tent = less air to warm = warmer kiddies
    2. Use the sleeping bag stuff sac to make the sleeping bag smaller. Keeps the bag warmer and stops child sliding down.
    3. Camp fires rock
    4. Have an escape plan if it all goes to pot

I am very jealous, we should do something like that with SK and it’s only us stopping it really.

    Sighs….

Saddles are a really personal thing and what suits one won’t suit another. I really didn’t get on with the spesh BG saddles and that’s a lot of money wasted, I do however have a charge ladle which is cheap and great.

My favourite though is the WTB Deva, got 2 and love them to bits…to the point that one is disintegrating after much wet weather MTB abuse. They are a bit race though (not very padded but very supportive).

I’d go with the ladle if I were you, cheap, comfy and recommended by many!

Met Mr Kip working at an outdoor centre, we have many bikes each and other outdoorsy stuff and share very similar hobbies…mtb, climbing, outdoor life in general. What has stopped us doing these things together is having a small child and no local close family to babysit.

We give each other as much time as possible but this summer has really stopped our ability to take Small Kip out with us as a family as after a certain amount of time she’s hacked off with being wet!

Hopefully this summer will lead to some better weather and some low level bouldering as she loves playing at the local climbing wall (where we are drinking tea and eating cake because only one of us is available!) and more balance bike riding. Fingers crossed!
