Unfortunaltely all new build estates MUST have a certain percentage of houses/homes as housing association or the like, it’s meant to help them fit in and not feel segregated(sp?).

Exactly why I moved from Bradley Stoke, I still moved to a new build but it it isn’t on an estate it is in fact well tucked away which was one of the reasons we chose it, however we are not far from two large council areas and that is where these **** are coming from.

16.5 stone (6’2″)when I first started riding a road bike in lycra, now just under 14 stone and keeping up with younger skinnier riders at MTB enduros, and I’m riding my first 24 hour solo in May.

Be careful who you laugh at, you don’t know who you might meet on the way down.

shit to here all these stories of theft, is it just Bristol or are most shitys the same?

I can’t comment on other cities, but IMO the problem we have in Bristol is that for every nice area we have there is always a council estate / shit hole in the vicinity of it, I’m not saying that everyone who lives on a council estate is a thief, but they are breeding grounds for the little ****.

How much is it all costing in garage doors though?

£800 so far, I have measures in place to prevent further damage to the current door.

I’m dealing with bored kids, if they were pros they’d know how to get in in seconds, they appear to be leaving it 1 to 2 weeks between attacks hoping I drop my guard, one thing we definitely know is that at the moment they have no access to burglary tools as there are no markings on the door sills from any of the attacks, they’ll get bored or get caught – they will not get my bikes.

    Mike – 5 attempts!!

    Yep.

5 attempts in 8 weeks, I’d be tempted to lay in wait for the **** []

Make that 6 attempts now, they came back on Friday night, popped one of the latches and tried to bend the door, but again thanks to my security measures they failed.

    Losers.

Also take some biggish tyres and FR or DH inner tubes. The Gap descent is pretty rocky and very VERY fast (it kind of lures you in – first it gets fast, then it gets rocky).

I rode that descent with anotherdeadhero, I was running Maxxis featherlite tubes (98g) and Larsen TTs 2.0 and I’m 14st, out of the two of us guess who had a puncture.

(ok he was going faster than me)

You can get metal bar end plugs which re-enforce the ends of your carbon bars, that’s how Truvative overcome the problem.

    Here go’s me babber.

    teh bar end plugs innit

As stated above you can pretty much get used to anything, that said I too can be over fussy with set up.

Although a bike that is well set up for it’s purpose is a joy to ride, I’ve just put flat bars and bar ends on my Rush primarily to help with climbs during my solos this year, climbing is my biggest weakness as far as XC go’s and having the flat bar / bar end set up is a revelation on the climbs it’s a tad naggery on steep descents but as above I’ll get used to it.

    Well, not slow!
I mean for punctures. They ain’t small are they?! and almost go through the depth of the tread (obviously).

Stop thinking about it too much, they’ll be fine.

Roller garage door is the only answer to that. I can confirm you’ll strugglr to get into one of those. (I’m an owner, not a thief!)

The chap who installed my new door advised heavily against a roller door, like breaking into a venetian blind he said.

A builder local to my office has just had his roller door broken into for the second time.

This is when they gained access.

It took four of them to do it.

What sort of security are you talking king-tut? interested as I’m north bristol, and getting worried!

Rather not say on a public forum.

Incidentally – where’s best to look for stolen bikes – ebay?, anywhere else?

Do local bike shops (I’m thinking of Bristol Bike Workshop) take up ‘offers’ of old bikes to sell?

    cheers

    PS – yes, North Bristol!!

As I thought, I’ve had at least 5 attempts in the last 8 weeks on my garage, on one occasion they got in but security measures in place stopped them from stealing anything, they have been back a couple of times since then, but I’ve stepped up security to quite a high level so they haven’t gained access.

As long as there is a gap or a response to a job advertised then the agency would be very on dubious ground trying to enforce their fee.

The standard cooling off period is about 6 months, any approach or offer made to the temporary worker (resulting in employment) within that period whatsoever renders the customer liable for a fee, even a recommendation to a third party by the customer with a subsequent job offer / acceptance will leave the customer liable to a fee.

    That’s standard practice.

If its mud and only mud you are riding in then Panaracer Trailrakers a very good, if it is a mixture of mud, rocks, roots fire roads etc then Bontrager Mud Xs are the ones to get.

KingTut – The salary offer hasn’t been made yet. We have just talked about ‘in the region of XXX depending on performance, conditions etc’ No detail about the split of basic vs performance.

You know your worth, I’m sure you know the current regional salary range for the position you are applying for with this knowledge you’ll soon know if they are taking pee with their offer.

i always tell the truth. I was just wondering when to tell it. If I was recruiting for this position and new the guy I was after had just been made redundent I would knock £10K of the salary offer which is why I was hesitant.

Well, if I was the Recruiter acting on your behalf, I would have already told the customer that you had been made redundant (as long as it was for the right reasons)as TJ points out it would be to your advantage and in my time in recruitment (20 years this year, which is a record for this industry) I have never ever known a customer to lower a salary offer because the person has been made redundant.

Why would you want to hide the fact you have been made redundant? Or am I reading it incorrectly?

I’d also argue with it not being ideal for trail centres, it’s the perfect bike for riding the Skyline at Afan.

If they have been serviced then I guess the seals and bushings have been replaced, so now as in all cases with the Ronin 110 they will take an age to bed in again.

You can keep your bikes in the room if you like, don’t lock them up outside, bike theft at all Centrepac sites is not unheard of.

Absolutely fine, Truvative supply custom metal bar plugs with their Noir carbon flat bars bars for the same reason.
