HK Citation One. £50ish on eBay. Can be paired for stereo sound. Will play anything from the connected device. I tell mine to play Worldwide FM most of time. Marvellous!

Used 10mm Thermopanel in the walk in shower. Fixed to stud frame with washers then taped. Even in winter the tiles there don’t get cold. The silica dust is nasty when you cut it.

The tape came from the Everbuild Aquaseal Tanking Kit which got used around the bath. Painted several coats of the tanking membrane onto old bare plaster and tiled directly on top after a few weeks curing. 75% of it was wasted.

I still don’t know why people tile in areas that don’t get wet. I’ll use panels in my next bathroom.

So our house sold within a day, now we’ve just got to find somewhere to live. Sweet. Two good options in an area we like so fingers crossed. We’ll rent if neither of these work out. Looking forward to beach days and long Gower rides late summer 2022! 🙂

    Thanks All!

The roads are silly where we are in BA2. We’ve spent evenings on Zoopla/Rightmove and there are good options in Gowerton. The train station would be useful and I like the sound of the Clyne cycle path for quieter family rides. Access to Gower, town/work, M4 also good. One thing I notice is that the character of two adjacent streets can be wildly different. Result of mass expansion following WW2 I guess.

I’ve spoken to a couple of agents around Swansea who said things are fairly crazy at the moment. Lot’s to do!

Any views on Loughor/Gorseinon? Close to M4, easy access to Gower, good schools nearby, 20 mins drive to town. Same houses are £70-100k more in Sketty.

    Hi Folks,

Resurrecting the thread as my partner has informally accepted a job offer and the house is being valued on Thursday.

    It’s probably happening…

Thanks folks, lots of sound advice. TBF we’ll likely only camp if fine weather is guaranteed. Flexibility with work allows us to go last minute this year.

Main thing I took away was biggish tent not two small ones, thinking something like these:

I’ll still be getting my little 2 man : )

Very Scandi! Howies made a ‘Super Nice’ tee 10+ years ago dedicated to the Swedes. It’s cute…

Can confirm that the Drayton TRV’s offered free with Kudox rads are not supplied with either blanking nuts or a cap to hold the pin closed. Neither did they successfully hold back 1bar of pressure for me. But if you’re replacing TRV’s then the system is being drained regardless.

Belt and braces is PTFE and Hawk White (or similar) jointing compound, not Plumbers Mait or LS-K.

If you do decide to be a cowboy at least invest in some £1.19 blanking nuts for the TRV’s – https://www.screwfix.com/p/flomasta-compression-blanking-nut-15mm/55441

Don’t listen to wzzzz. If and when you’re ready to remove the old rads make sure you drain the system. TRV’s aren’t designed to hold back pressure.

Pro plumbers can snatch rads but they have the skills to deal with any issues.

Thanks All. My partner’s been reading the post and it’s fair to say that we’re both a bit excited about the prospect of settling down in or around Swansea. Lot’s to think about before we put the house on the market!

Thank you all for your time so far on this. My partner is strongly on board with a move to south Wales and I should have stated that early on. We’re very fortunate in that I can take my home based role anywhere with half decent wifi and my partner works in education and has a strong academic background. Hopefully we’re not naive thinking that a good teacher wont find it hard to get a job across the border. The move would be permanent and we would fully support any Welsh learning as the kids grow. From memory bi-lingual children find it much easier to learn further languages as they develop into adults.

Thankfully we would have supportive family within a 30 minute drive north of the city. I’m hoping that through a combination of having kids, riding and interests in many other outdoor pursuits that new friendships would follow. Wherever we live having a sense of community is important so we’d want to get involved where we can. I did read somewhere that there has been a lot of development in Swansea which when complete (2-3 years) will make it a very aspirational place to live and work.

Nothing anyone has said has put me off so far!

Like mine enough to have it as my only bike. Mainly road and gravel but not averse to trails with the right tyres.

OP – how did you get on?

We’re thinking of swapping Bath for Ammanford as my partners sister moved there with her young family a few years back. They love it and we do when we visit!

Come-on @cromolyolly, OP’s issue is NOT the position on the hoods but reaching the levers on the drops. Rolling the bars forward will bring the levers CLOSER to him at a more neutral angle. OP also says that the angle of the hoods tips his wrist upwards so having them set closer to level might offset this. Flipping the stem and therefore lowering the bar will increase the angle of his wrists.

I appreciate that this isn’t a road forum but it is a road bike we’re advising on.

Flipping the stem will increase the reach even further. Roll the bar OP!

Perhaps not on some of the more extreme flared/ergo variants but most standard shape drop bars (even with flare) are designed to be set up as below:

Like I said, this is how they are designed to be set up but not necessarily how all people will find them most comfortable.

Roll the bars forward a bit more. The extension on the drop is designed to be level a la:

Reach to the levers will probably be reduced by 20mm+!

EDIT: Bar width usually dictated by distance between Acromiom which puts the majority of men on 40cm (c-c) although sizing up will help with stability riding off-road. Most off the shelf bikes come with 42cm as stock.

Bless you theotherjonv. Like I said luck played a big role for us but it wasn’t always easy. No-one should ever be made to feel ashamed, being a new parent is hard enough.

At the end of the day many friends did one of the other and all of their kids are growing up happy, healthy and equally as annoying.

I don’t think it helpful to refer to anyone as a breastfeeding ‘Nazi’. Someone trying to promote something which is clinically proven to help both mother and baby longterm is quite literally the opposite of a Nazi. I remember that in those emotional hours/days following birth it can be overwhelming but with the right support it should be achievable for most. In retrospect we were lucky that due to a complicated birth we stayed in for two nights and had all of the support we needed, round the clock. A close family member was rushed out following a relatively simple birth and received no support at all. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

    Good luck OP xx

So good sillyoldman! I’m probably exactly the kind of pleb they’re mocking.

That B-rad pump bag is a bit nice, sold out sadly.

Only 3.5 hours to order the Restrap…

    Thanks folks!

Some great options that I hadn’t come across. I’m leaning heavily towards the Restrap, especially with a 20% discount and supporting a UK business. The additional length will accommodate my pump and more food.

And only a week later I’m the proud owner of a Small Tempest courtesy of a full forum member.

It managed the Blue run at Cannop much to the amusement of everyone I passed on the way down. Looking forward to trying it with 650b wheels and Senderos.

    Great bike!

    Thanks igm!

Two sets of wheels sounds ideal and something I’ll probably have to consider as I’ve only got space for one bike. I’m swaying towards a Small as I do spend a fair amount of time on roads but you’ve reassured me that I could make either a Sm or Med work, albeit with a compromise.

Seeing as the thread is still receiving interest I thought I’d share a shot of the bike the Tempest will be replacing, out in the woods (MBUK favourite) today. I’ll need to make room for the Ti so the Dawes will have to find a new home sadly.

    Dawes Ultra Galaxy

I’d never have guessed in 98/99 that I’d be lusting after a PX all these years later…

    Thanks ojays, good to know!

Been playing around on my employers C2W scheme – Cycle Solutions. Based on folks experience of C2W does the deal on this Genesis CdF seem to good to be true?

    Thanks All,

It’ll be a big upgrade from my much abused Dawes Ultra Galaxy. There’s currently nothing on eBay or Gumtree so if anyone knows of someone letting go of a small please send them my way.

Otherwise with any luck PX will have a sale in the near future!

    Thanks dude, north Somerset!

Interesting that there’s only 2″ between you and iain1775. Presumably he’d have preferred a Medium which would put me on a Small.
