Superb news, as someone else commented the first few posted sounded bleak, playing I spy sounds a miracle IMO.

Tyres are not a massive issue TBH at our level, people get to worked up about them and obsessive, its about technique a lot and how you move your weight around and tyre pressure. My mate did it on Conti mud king tyres and I did it on Bonti’s XR2 which are a summer tyre, we both struggled massivly with traction and clogging but I was well in front at the end.

Right, this course is not quicker on a cross bike, look at last years results, how many cross bikes in the top ten, eeeeerrrrrrrrrrrr none.

I helped mark out the course last year and raced last year, very similar course to this year, I am nothing to do with organising it this year

I sincerely hope things keep going in the right direction for you and small steady positive steps of improvement. My thoughts are with you your wife, family and friends. (I have been following this thread since it started and after 9 pages I only just have built the nerve up to post.)

Yeh, all new stuff to me, got the GPS for the long route so will do it again in full.

Wanted a 3 hour full route work out, but medium route was nice enough.

RMC’s after passing out (32 week training which involves how to kill someone effectively) serve as General Duties RMC’s for two years and after that choose a specific field to go into, one being a sniper. So the RM has had a lot of time to think and choose his path with hands on experience/advise from other RM’s carrying out the same work who will tell them if they think they are suitable. They also have many, many hours of lectures about taking a life, what to expect after this has happened mentally and physically. Allied to this they have constant support from Pardre’s and counselors from day one of their training right the way though till they leave the Royal Navy.

Had this come up a few times in the last week or so, then when I try again no problem. The site has been recently been hacked as well.

Yeh £ 2000 for everything, think they made a mistake as they said the list price was £4K and they would do it for half price. The link Trek sent me for the original advert for the bike new was incorrect and it showed a cheaper model(£4K model) so I think they got their knickers in a twist. I reckon with the iCD electronic Fox forks which are about a £800 extra on the Project One site and the Project One paint job its over £ 7K new. (I swapped the post and saddle)

You would not believe how much I paid for it with iCD electronic forks………………..£ 2000.00, ex demo from Trek UK.

How do you its a SL frame Im not sure as the receipt from Trek is a bit vague, is their a difference?

    Cheers

Had XTR stuff for decades, only needed to get a couple of pairs of pedals changed under warranty and I ride quite a bit and have no mechanical sympathy .

    kingkongsfinger

Hope warranty is good, does not state a length of warranty though. XTR warranty is 3 years and honored by CRC or Merlin.

Will be sticking with my XTR, top end Shimano kit is fit it and forget it (except the pedals).

He had a couple of naps during the race and is currently fast asleep in a hotel.

The organisers did put very strict controls on his participation – one was that Richpips had to ride around behind him and if at any point Minipips said that he wasn’t up for any more they would call it a day /night.

Tom has had a good couple of years practice riding endurance and has been training all the elements of a 24 hour race in the lead up to Strathpuffer. It is not as if his only experience of bike riding was a 3 mile summer pootle along a canal towpath. Yes this does make him exceptional for his age, but it was not a reckless whim or parent driven.

    However I am all ears.

Thats what I wanted to hear, was unsure and did not want to hear that the young un did the 24 hour event non stop ! Well done Tom and great effort :D 8O

Just skim read this thread but if a 9 year old has just completed a 24 hour non stop physical event his parents want a good talking too. (Waiting to be flamed)

Luxury. Right, my son he’s 17 years old (12GCSE Grade A* under his belt as well) and (used to) live in the NW, 20 weeks ago he move down to Lympstone near Exeter to complete a 32 week training course to become a Royal Marine Commando (this is after extensive exams/tests/medicals and an initial weeks selection down there), hes completed phase one so he’s a Royal Marine and cracking on with phase two to become a Commando. Bloody, bloody tough/grim mentally and physically, its not helping being the youngest in his troop as most of the lads are mid/late 20’s and up to 32 years old. Hes no where near on £ 26K a year, more like £ 18K but I think the long term goals and life style will be better for him. Heaven only knows what will happen down there when he’s 18 years old at the end of this month because they are a fair old bunch of mentalist keg heads when they get some free time and love to play pranks, especially on the younger ones as its quite rare to have an 18th birthday in the training center.

No way at that age did I have the will, determination and focus to do what he’s doing, think he’s got mental strength beyond his years, not many kids his age that I know would last a week down there never mind 32 weeks.

Its from http://www.flyxii.com A cyclo cross frame. Excellent, I also have raced their 29er carbon MTB frame all year which is mega.

I also have a Trek Superfly SL for reference, so I know what a good bike rides like.
