I was 40 last month, had my best season road racing last year and so far this year had a 2nd, 8th in TT's and got 33rd overall in the Whinlatter Challenge (Not done a MTB race for over 10 years)

Dont care what anyone says or thinks, just try not to offend anyone.

    Actions speak louder that words.

Love hammering young lads on bikes who think they are the new Cavendish/Absolon 8)

I am having a mid life crisis BTW as I have not had my haircut this year and im growing a "Euro Mullet" to wind my three kids up, who think they know it all and will be severly embassed. :?

rp, i was told from two MTB guys I went up with, whom both beat my the best tyre is Maxxis cross mark, the tread looked a bit "lean" to me but they said they worked well and have tried ralphs and nobby nics and the Maxxis are better, the Maxxis almost look semi slickish to me???????

But i trust these lads judgemnt as they did well on em.

rp, my front wheel slide from under me on that wooden bridge as well, fell to the right and ended up under the bridge like a frickin Troll, dont thing any tyre could grip on that wet mudy wooden bridge at speed. Learnt the second time and took it really steady.

BTW that last climb at the end was steep, I took my granny ring off about 3 months ago, it would have been nice to spin up there rather than stood up all the way, legs were burning a tad. Did a ten mile time trial the day before which didn't help.

kingskongfinger – was with you at the beginning, what bike do you have??.

I'm sure i was sat behind you at start, specialized stumpy carbon, wearing a red and white o'neill top.

Pace was quite mental at start. Remember sitting in that bunch and going quite hard and then looking up to see this lone rider about 40 metres ahead of everyone else. We caught him during that climb though. i kept thinking i was going quite well in that group then someone would pass you so you would speed up and it kinda stayed like that all up the first climb.

Black Santa Cruz Blur, yeh kept jumping to bridge gaps, think thats what shagged me out.

I did it and was totally overwhelmed. Coming from the "darkside" thought it "cant be that hard", i've done some brutal road races, its only 30 odd miles. However….
(I was in the red and white full roadie kit "Lancashire Road Club" if anyone saw me riding a black Santa Cruz (now shagged) Blur)

    Race Report.

Set off and was with the lead group of about 15 riders for about 10 mins up the long start climb and then I "blew up" big time, thought i could hold this intial tempo but not use to this type of effort and suffered. Got overtaken by quite a few rides while I rode myself back to a sustanable level, got my act together and started to reel riders back. I was loosing loads of time on the techical forest slatey bits and realised nobby nics are shit on this and were very slippy (40psi did'nt help), on one of the downhill switchbacks sections I got mega "T bone impact" from another rider behind me which threw me off and down the trail heavy and twatted my knee (No hard feelings moonglu rider). Ended up 33rd @ 2 hrs 53. Not bad for a 40 year old roadie.

Loved every minute and defo doing some more MTB events, a lot harder than I thought it would. 8O 8O

    Cheers Chaps.

I got rid of the granny ring about 6 months a go, if its fire road climbs should be OK, my theory is if your in the granny ring its faster to get off and run with the bike.

I know what the price should have been but I just kept talking and confused em, he used a A4 sheet with "barcodes" on it on tilled it all through correct, can scan the receipt and post on here if you want.

May go and buy 100 and flog on ebay and make £ 50.00, but then again cant be arsed.

My girlfriend bought me a watch last month for my birthday, looked at Omegas but saw one of these and had to choose this, it looks a lot better in real life and was a lot cheaper than the Omega/Tag that I was looking at. The quality is fantastic and the history of Seiko is quite impressive!!

Not when someone posts a video of themselves ragging around a residential area and saying 'I nearly lost it then' etc.

Hardly 'ragging ' it. Firstly, in the 'built up' area with houses ( either side of the bridge ) i would guesstimate he's doing about 30-40 so hardly 'ragging' it. The only time he gives it some is in a clearly sited tunnel with no traffic coming and NO parked cars. After accelerating to hear the noise he clearly slows right down again. The only thing was the pedestrian on the side of the road at the tunnel but then although he 'nearly lost it', i'm sure the marrinetto setting was on full so although it would give some slip the engine would reign in anything going remotely sideways.

These 'scallies' aren't in an impreza and giving your view your suggesting evweryone driving impreza's or evo's are dangerous drivers who speed everywhere.

Think daisy duke is right, some people cant be happy. think the OP should post himself driving around doing 20 in a 30 in a everyday car, cos that would be fun to watch

radoggair, good observation skills, you have hit the nail on the head on several points, I did do a reccy drive before as well so it was safe, did not go too fast and all your comments are correct.

People like grunty and jupiter seem to have sand in their vagina and love moaning about anything, probably in the PC brigade as well, its a shame because these type of people would also "diss" Wiggins for not getting a podium place in the TdF et al.

Im a honest hardworking salesmen who sells an industrial (boring) product which is manufactured here in UK and have worked my nuts of in this recession to keep a factory of people in work so my boss hired it for me for a "long weekend" 4 days as a big thank you, from Friday am till Monday am. Im not bragging just telling and showing people who like this sort of thing, im proud of my efforts, the weekend will never be forgotten.

I did also drive it very quick in other places where the "conditions" allowed it. Went over loads of nice roads near the Trough of Bowland, Rivvy, Anglezare etc and did find some long tunnels. I enjoyed every second as it is an engineering masterpiece. I thankyou. :P :P
