I don’t think anyone’s been angry. They are just trying to educate you on different drive systems in cars to counter your opening statement which is poorly informed. It’s clearly not worked.

Yesterday I took a detour off the M62 due to snarl ups and drove over the A640. I wouldn’t have considered doing that in a Golf. Not that they aren’t capable on winters, I just feel relaxed and at ease with the way Subaru’s drive. Guess that’s why I always return to the marque. I’ve owned and driven many Golf derivatives. I found almost all of them abit vanilla. Mmaybe a better drive on the motorway but hey that’s opinion. My bro in law however is a VW Golf fanboi. Loves em. Its all personal preference.

    Brilliant.

nice vid saladdodger, but although it shows the rear wheels spinning, it also seems to show a car out witted by 2cm of snow.

My wife had that model as a company car. Most journeys were motorway. Never had an issue with it but know someone who did (dpf) and cured it with a hard drive every now and then. The wife does tend to rag it a bit though when driving and change gear once revs are quite high (for that car). My sister has had a string of golfs R32, GTi and currently a 170bhp GTD, which is her first diesel golf, it has developed a dpf fault which she claims is worse through villages/towns.

Over all the blue motion are good cars IME for what they do. They could be described as quite dull but it’s not the kind of car you buy to excite you as such. After 60k it still felt well made and the interior looked good as the quality of plastics is good.

Lowest common denominator, childish, daft, too daft, too daft to laugh at, potty humour…

…I enjoyed it with my mates, the same mates it went to see the first one with at school. Wouldn’t admit to the wife I enjoyed it..

He reminds me of the guy opposite me at work, who came to driving quite late and is desperate to be part of the petrol head club, he told me he didn’t like my new car as he found v6s “too woolfy” I tried to explain it was a straight not a v and the difference between them but I gave up. It turned out his experience of v6’s was a quick test drive at a dealer…

If you’ve got the itch to buy a new car then fair enough.

If your buying either the mondeo or Volvo to ‘save’ money it seems like a lot of faff for a potentially small return and the risk of buying a car that you may inherit problems.

    CRV isn’t AWD.

My Father in Law has bought a 2013 plate one recently. He thinks its only 2wd.
Does it in fact have some 4wd capability? (serious question)
    POSTED 6 MINUTES AGO # REPORT-POST

Yes, kind of. It’s FWD but if the front wheels are under duress power is sent to the back also. It’s not manually selectable. I wouldn’t consider it very capable at all as an off road vehicle though if that’s what you meant.

I don’t think anyone is angry, just confused at what specific point your trying to make with this thread, other than to suggest a forester is a more capable vehicle (which isn’t really going to be a shock to anyone).

Anyway you said your waiting to import a Land Cruiser once you get that you can compare it to a mini or something.

    It says 4wd? Not AWD?

One of my other cars is a 435d xdrive, it seems to work similarly and you can certainly feel the switch from RWD on the rare occasion it’s kicked in.

Were abouts? I can’t see were it says AWD?

    King-ocelot

Out of intrest were does it state it’s awd? I couldn’t see that but I only glanced over it. I’ve seen it state it’s electric 4wd meaning you can’t select the rear wheels they just engage when the front struggle. I like mine, fuels not great and it’s a bit slow but I bought another car I want to keep clean and the miles off so I’m happy with it. It’s a good but boring work horse.

I bought a cheap 07 (late previous shape) crv from someone in the trade on the cheap (interior is tatty) but it’s fine as a second car carrying my bikes and dogs about. No poke in it at all which would lead me to realise it’s not really meant as a hardcore 4×4 before it’s been off road. I like subarus but parts cost on a forrestor would put me off as I don’t need a real 4×4, and they are equally as dull as my crv.

Any news on the Landcruiser you were importing?

In ell renton and if you did the deal the dealer would whack up yours on the forecourt. Go elsewhere.
Hang on giving advice to renton on cars is like shouting at the TV…
    POSTED 3 MINUTES AGO # REPORT-POST

The thing with asking for advice on cars on the internet is there is always going to be a few horror stories or difference of opinions. Sure some models are going to have more issues/common faults than others. But were talking volvos and fords. Just get one bought.

I said that to him but he said no the price is the price.
    POSTED 16 MINUTES AGO # REPORT-POST

It’s not, it a starting point to negotiate. Make a low offer, meet in the middle, drive your new car and get over this huge difficult part of your life.

    King-ocelot

Just tell the salesman that you’ve been offered better px elsewhere, given that and the higher mileage you need him to come down a bit.

    King-ocelot

The Volvo in your link looks ok for what it is. Are you going to view it? You can use the mileage to haggle on price. It looks a good car based on power/trim/mpg/size. Prob not very exciting to drive but that can be forgiven.

No but i would be aware that clutch etc have a life span. I’d want to know as much service history as possible. If that’s what type of car you want and you adhering to a budget you may not be able to be too picky, a good low mile car is obv going to cost more.

You put down a deposit on a car you hadn’t seen?
    POSTED 6 HOURS AGO # REPORT-POST

I’ve done this before, but on rarer or sought after cars. No need on a Mondeo there’s loads about another will turn up shortly.

Yes, because I find these advances in healthcare fascinating,( however not fascinating enough to fund it myself nor would I expect it in the NHS). If for example it pinpointed a risk of something I wouldn’t spend my time worrying about it. I have had illness before out if the blue and know life’s for enjoying.

Every male on my dad’s side, who I know of, who has passed away has done so from a huge stroke, my grandfather, his father, his uncles, both his brothers, my uncle. So if medicine could pinpoint a risk and I could adjust my life or medicine to help with that I would.

I have some for work, and some lewin ones. The TM lewin ones have washed better and are a better fit. I find the CT ones too boxy, the kind of fit my dad would wear. I wouldn’t buy them again.

I spent too long in a relationship I didn’t want anymore, I wasted 18 months of my life by hanging around feeling pity for someone. Just go, it will be hard and she will text etc all the time till she finds someone new. I assume your off over Xmas ? Be easier to do it now while your away from work so it will have less effect on your work life. If she cared she wouldn’t be texting another bloke, focus on that. Your age doesn’t matter about moving home, a mate is early 40s and has done the same.

The animal issue isn’t fair on the animals and is obvioisly a deeper issue which needs addressing.

I recommend crate training, crate trained both of my dogs and they both love having the crate in the utility room and sometimes go in for a nap.

Your puppy is going to poo and wee a lot till it is trained, keep off your best carpet. Keep plenty of cleaning stuff on standby.

    Post lots of pictures.

    Get him/her chipped ASAP.

Go to puppy classes, both myself and my puppy learned a lot and enjoyed it/bonded.

Go to b&m or pound land for dog blankets, poo bags etc… Far cheaper than pet superstores

Travel with your puppy wearing a dog seatbelt or in the boot of your car with a divider… I got pulled over on a spot check and almost got 3 points for my puppy sleeping in the footwell at the back (stupid of me I know, lesson learned)

    Dogs are amazing, enjoy it.

Ha ha! Checked it no one inside :-)

Found a note that must have blown off it from a neighbour who has gone back abroad and couldn’t take it back. Asking me if I didn’t want it would I give to a charity. Off to charity it goes :-) really surprised no one just nicked it from my driveway.

    Hope your boys ok

No more a masculine Evoque. A rugged ‘Rangie’

Image pays a huge part in car buying. Even if you think it doesn’t or images doesn’t effect your choices. It isn’t always to impress.

    Wonderfully capable vehicles.
And most of that would be wasted in the UK unless you are going seriously off road.

I agree, I expect most of these reissues will sit on driveways too expensive to fuel and repair, never to use the full potential and bought by the image conscious.
