I had a 330d saloon for 4 months last year while I was waiting for my new car (another BMW) to be made. It was a lovely car to drive and despite the engine size often felt nimble. I’d personally pick the saloon as I don’t need the space of the touring. You will of course hear from people who don’t own them how dreadful they are in snow, but they are not really it’s down to how you drive it.

My mate has just sold one of these, he moved to Russia to work for a huge Bank out there and said, I quote “I’ll get killed for this car if I take it out there, they’ll be tracking me all the way there before I even get out of Germany”
We sold it for him, to another Banker Boy who’d just got his bonus back last March.

On any other day this would have raised an eyebrow, but after talking about F1s not today. Which is quite sad given it’s a lovely design in it’s own right.

Andyl I am very jealous. Only ever seen them at shows, never sat in one. Fantastic piece of design and engineering.

Good for mirroring iPad/iPhone. Proved very useful to use my TV as a monitor streaming off my mac book a few times. Other than streaming apple devices it’s been useful for Netflix but don’t really use it for much else.

^my rate was based on friends in the industry doing similar

When i was saving for my wedding i did similar on the side, I used to charge £35 an hour for similar sites. Once the site was uploaded £50 for amends. It’s important if dealing with a friend of a friend your brief is as accurate as possible and all colours/fonts/content/etc is finalised early on to limit changes as these things can run on and on. sometimes everyone will want to have their say on how it looks and it can get a bit tiresome when your up against someone’s nephew who has been doing graphics for his mock GCSE and you have just got home from work after heading a £2m branding relaunch of a household name.

Who is going to content manage the site after you have built it?

Oh dear, you clearly know nothing about motorsport or racing/rallying pedigree if you refer to Audi as a bellend.
For a start, white/silver are Germany’s classic racing colour, and Audi have as long and illustrious racing/rallying heritage as anyone out there!

I think he was making reference specially to the model of car and not Audi. I could be wrong though.

Oh were taking it to the clothing game. Do Subarus come with a tapout hoody? Or the C1 with a school tie and a green P plate?

Sorry OP I won’t derail the thread anymore, and I do actually like Subarus.

    Better than beige-slacks CRV’s.
    POSTED 32 MINUTES AGO # REPORT-POST

I’m getting to really like my CRV, it was just bought as a relatively cheap vehicle for carrying my boxing stuff, bikes and dogs. I was not expecting to find it so relaxing to drive or useful for taking stuff to the tip. It’s been the perfect car to sit with my others and it’s staying long term. Highly recommended.

Yes I have a ‘chav’ white car. I have always liked white cars (perhaps from having a poster of a white Testerossa as a boy) and since work are changing it every 18 months i thought why not, it’s not like I have to keep it. It’s turned grime grey over winter, that’s why not.

    …and I live in Cheshire…
    …and it’s a BMW…

Yes, I would. But it depends if the van will be garaged and how far you intend to drive. It will also be noted as a minus if you sell the van, (although prob not £1200 off the price)

Enjoy replacing expensive exhaust manifolds ? Those 2.4cdti hondas are notorious for it. Chuffing pain to get at , 1 of the guys at work is on his 2nd and anothers on his third – at least his has honda warrentyy the other guy has to pay for his as honda laughed at him

    Eh? This the 2.2?

Not were I grew up as I was a lippy kid in a group who people avoided. Not here in Chester were I live now. I didn’t feel safe in some parts of London were I lived. I’ve boxed for years and that’s taught me to walk away as some nutter could be carrying a knife or something. I’d hate to think an elderly relative was living in fear.

Volvo xc-90 might be worth a look too, but may be over budget.

I bought a Honda CRV for weekends of carrying my dogs, bikes and boxing stuff about in. I can and have got changed in the back however if you go down that route you may wish to black out the rear windows for privacy. It’s comfy on motorways and although not a hardcore 4×4 by any means is capable in bad weather. I’ve been very pleased with it, it’s slow compared to my other cars and not exciting to drive but it’s been reliable and spacious. Very easy to park too as all corners are visible. Crap on fuel round town though.

Some Clarks shoes I bought for £15 in the sale. I usually wear Grensons or Loakes with welted soles but they can feel clumpy when driving. Saw these Clarkes and 6 months on wish I had bought more pairs.

The paint is crap on them. Avoid the black and stormy blue metallic.

Interesting, my Dad’s a 3 Mazda 6’s in a row, he was talking if replacing his current one next year… With a Mazda 6. He’s like that previously having 2 sierras and then getting in a tizzy when they stopped making them and buying 3 Mondeos in a row. The Mazdas have been faultless apart from the first one (04 plate) that rusted on the sills despite being garaged and was in what I think was storm blue, it was certainly a moody blue colour. The second was an MPS which was a nice stealthy car. Currently he has an 2011 which hasn’t wanted or needed anything. I would pick one over a mondeo/passat given there are few horror stories about them and owners seem generally pleased. They aren’t as sales rep as a Mondeo or as IT bore as a Passat.

I had a 330 petrol (newer shape than op) for about 4 months while I was waiting for my company lease car. It was lovely very capable and ate miles almost as quick as it ate petrol. Id happily have another.

I wanted a Nissan GTR but Nissans aren’t an option. The car lease goes as part of my overall package. My employer was having none of the GTR talk.

A fair few years ago I almost managed a Vauxhall Monero (our cars were fully expensed, and before the co2 ‘issue’ really took off), as my Director thought it was the little people carrier thing – our bloody Accountant noticed though and spilled the beans.

:-) I like it, what did you end up with?

If you want to be in brand new metal every 3 years there is no better way to do it, some amazing deals around like the M135i ones a year ago.
Thats the business model though, once they’ve got you in you are stuck in the cycle and the prices will go up for the next car up the ladder etc. You’re not likely to get out of your M135i and into a Skoda so you’ll be in a 435i paying £500!

If she’s mailbombed her CV about and not got a sniff, perhaps the question she needs to be asking isn’t “where can I get a job?” but rather “what’s wrong with my CV?”.

My wife is an area retail manager and covers the north, a pet hate of CV bombing is an obviously generic CV handed out in bulk. Walk the high street look for vacancies and tailor a CV for the jobs she wants and address the envolopes properly, the cv should have no waffle or unrelated info. When handing it in dress smart and ask to see a manager/supervisor and have a chat and be bubbly. They will know it’s a stepping stone while she studies but will want to know she will be honest, punctual and pull her weight, any previous exp is a bonus. There are hundreds of CV’s coming in at the moment and you need to stand out, bear in mind the CVs will get skim read. It’s also a time were not many are hiring and vacancies will have been filled by Xmas temps.

My employer leases my 435d for me. It’s ‘my’ first lease and it seems strange to me still that i will have it for 18months and picking a new one after the first 12 months.

Subaru marketing department is run by engineers, that’s why they don’t sell many!

I thought this was partly down to a lack of dealerships as FHI have been partly owned by other car manufactures who have import restrictions on numbers of models (like nissan and toyota building cars in the uk to get round this) and Subarus were made in Japan? It’s always interesting to see how much of a Subaru is ‘Subaru’ and which parts say other car makers names on them. I do like Subarus they are very good cars.

The marketing department were in overtime circa 2001 when Imprezas were everywhere in car magazines. I remember buying a copy of evo and getting an impreza calendar and loads of adverts for the car inside. Not bad marketing work for engineers :-)

    So the linked/’test’ is erroneous?
I’d happily drive a CRV on a long motorway trip etc. However I’d feel far more confident in my car. You can feel where it is, what its doing etc. I liked the original CRV. The latter ones are going/gone down the route that many manufacturers have gone. Its not for me. That’s what appeals about the Subaru to me. Everyone’s different but I wouldn’t buy a autoexpress’s top pick car. To compare a same era Mondeo or golf is mad. It shows you treat cars as appliances if you can’t feel the differences between each.

Does this stuff you write actually make sense to you?

I tried the demo and I think it’s ok for someone wanting to get into design but not have the means for CC. I would still advise to use a free copy of CS2 though .

It you’re looking at illustration software for the Mac check out Affinity Designer
I’ve recently moved over to Designer after using Illustator nearly 20 years. So far I’m very impressed. It does nearly everything I need ( missing a few typography features, but they’re supposed to be on the way). I believe Designer is a credible alternative to Adobe Illustrator at a sensible price.
On the iPad i use Pixelmator.

I am going to give this a try out if curiosity. What made you switch from illustrator?

The OP is going to need to do high resolution illustrations for print. So a cheap PC. Laptop won’t cut it

If they were purely vector based illustrations maybe a laptop would be ok. But were talking scanning, manipulating, editing, illustrating, lots of layers. Big files needing to be print ready. Very different to a flash file. An example I have just done is 4 gig, it’s huge both in physical size and file size, this isn’t an abnormal file size for some projects. I expect the OPs files to be much smaller than that in the first instance but they can easily get bigger as they want more from the software.

A cheap 21″ monitor? Was this on old tube style monitor? Things are very different now.
