Why do all car related threads turn into pissing contests.

    Because VAG wins. At everything.

At least BMW make good drivers cars, unlike the Audi front wheel drive rubbish.

Until it snows. Our MD used to have a BMW estate, which he couldn’t even get off his drive when it snowed. Fortunately he only lived a short distance away at the time and could walk in.
Then he moved to Bath, and bought an Audi estate, so he could actually drive it in if it snowed….

Sounds like he couldn’t drive for shit to be honest. I expect he pushed the accelerator in and buried himself deeper. Good excuse not to turn up to work though, will rember that on the once a year it snows.

We have 2 BMW’s preferred the way they drove over other cars as we both like RWD. Mines company, I wanted a coupe and didn’t like the other cars I could pick from.

My house isn’t executive though, which is a shame. I feel like I’m not doing well enough.

Just curious as my friend runs a remapping business (specialising in bmw) and of all the manufacturers he finds BMW & Toyota to be the closest to manufacture BHP figures. I don’t know about any other data than bhp, other figures could of course not be accurate. The one you describe sounds like an E9x 320d.

It’s not as if they are selling cars with vast amounts more BHP/Torque per litre than their competitors and advertising that they are hugely greener
    BMW are though.
BMW are probably lying about their power/torque and performance figures, they’ve got form for it
It’s also the easiest thing to fib about as it’s not officially measured and it’s not easy to replicate.

Which BMW’s don’t have accurate figures? Which do you suspect are probably being lied about?

Thanks for the replies. I have posted a link to the spec. Mine is standard I haven’t upgraded anything yet. Really want to get into more road riding and commuting on it, currently using my mtb while I hardly use the road bike. I always feel like I’m going to snap it but then I started out in dirt jump and my other bikes a BFe. This is my first road bike.

They aren’t snow tyres. They are for cold weather
Thy tested best for cold & wet which is more akin to the SE than full on snow?

Eh? Just get some bought and fitted.

Well, it’s £521 for a set of steels AND the top (in various tests) Conti TS850’s on them. I need someone from where I live to post up about the necessity first. Although I don’t do many miles, I do have to travel around sometimes to be where I need to be. It’d be just my luck to be in Kent when snow starts causing issues on the M20/M25. But they could be £521- for a once in a winter experience. I’m just not convinced I need them in my locality.

Here’s a nay sayer. Youre going no where when the bloke in the m3 in front of you gets it sideways and blocks the road. Only time I’ve ever been stuck in the snow or ice is down to the roads being blocked by other vehicles.

Fair point about being stuck, but the compound and pattern on winter tyres make a difference in cold weather, to both grip and stoppinng distances. Apparently they improve mpg too but I’ve never experienced this.

I have 2, they are left alone 8:30am till 1pm then 2pm till 5:30pm 3 days a week. Some say it’s cruel but they are happy dogs. Both smallish cross breeds.

I set up a web cam once and they spent the afternoon playing with a sock. When I got in from work they sat in their bed good as gold. Love them both to bits.

Hello, I box, I have done for 20 years now, not all that well by county standard but my mate does much better. He’s on the GB squad, elite champion and #1 choice for Olympics next year, we just got back from Sheffield. I train with him twice a week but no longer train at an abc myself. I don’t fight as such now just spa, as i’m a husband and dad. I was invited to do white collar with a coach I have never heard of, I soon realised he was a poser and knew very little, so didn’t bother. Please check your not just going to feed someone’s ego on the good will to raise money, you could get hurt.

What i will say is my advice. Others may disagree…

Here’s what I would do in your case. Ignore the ‘cover till he tires and then hit him with all you got’ that’s like saying win an F1 race by staying behind the leading car then when he slips up overtake. There are so many other factors. You don’t know if he will tire, you don’t know how hard he can hit, you don’t know how hard you can be hit, you don’t know how he will react when he is hit. You need to dominate with ring work and keep ontop. Your not going up against a pro but an equal. Keep ontop of him, you will probably go to points.

You need to cut down on fat and build muscle, your organs are behind a cushion now, you need them to be behind a rock. Especially your arms (to cover) and gut as they are going to hurt.

You should be good at uppercuts if you cycle as power comes from springing up from your thighs.

You need to build a powerful punch, you do this with ‘explosive energy’ so lots of chops, kettle bell swings and sledge hammer into tires. You will need to be able to do this when your arms are burning with acid and you have been hit. Get a bag (always cheap on eBay) and hit it with lefts and rights till it swings on its bracket and is at arms length, now keep it at that angle and hammer it with left, right, left, right for about a minute (the bag will almost be stationary) go hard till your arms are burning (think cycling up a very steep hill in a hard gear till you want to puke and your thighs are on fire) now go straight into kettle swings/chops/sledge on tyre. This will prepare you to hit hard when your body’s telling you no. Ignore the burning and if it gets too much remind yourself in 6 weeks your doing this with someone hitting you back. Saying that don’t get too hung up on power your jab needs to be accurate like a lazer, a missed jab is a waste of energy and could leave you open.

I’m going to assume your orthodox, so build a strong right. Almost all my KO’s have been off a corkscrew punch, this is sneaky as its unexpected and your opponent will have thrown a big right expecting you to be rocked. You will need to learn to slip first though. Your best off learning off your instructor one to one. Slipping is as important as punching. Don’t panic when you learn the first few slips and a fist comes towards you.

If you can go 5 mins on a bag and you haven’t boxed before your not doing it right. Stick to 1 minute at first be be knackered.

6 weeks isn’t long at all, I’d look to be good at a few combos rather than be ok a loads. You will need to know these when being hit, everything changes if you’ve been hit so keep your cool.

As a basic plan I’d look at following

    Jog 30 seconds on spot
    10 burpees no hand raises
20 spotty dogs (10 each leg)
    20 squat thrusts
    10 burpees with hand raises
    20 mountain climbs
    20 press ups
    10 burpees no hand raises
10 boxing squats – more of you have it in you.
Knees to chest for 30 seconds

Repeat this with one minute rest in between. Time it to get faster. Do it 4 times a day. Plank till failure every other day and do bag work daily (as described above) I wouldn’t bother trying to learn footwork without instructor as weight transfer can be judged wrong easily.

Others may disagree but that’s my 2p. Good luck.

I use an ioniser and think there is a difference but could be a placebo. The house gets hoovered/dusted 3 times a week (2 times I do a half arsed effort and once a week cleaner does a full clean sofa cushions off etc) and I know that helps. Interested to hear any tips on here.

My dream dream car is an F40.
My more realistic dream was an S1 Elise, I finally bought one, after mx5’s & MR2’s. Loved it to bits, sold it after 4 months as situation changed and I got offered more than I paid for it. I never intended to keep it forever but 4 months wasn’t enough.

Looking at another but it will be a quicker one and not for a few years.

Used the premium in my kitchen, I think it’s good. Colour matched to farrow and ball (had proper Farris and ball in other room) and it’s a good match. Would recomend. Don’t think it’s cheap either, average price.

the web designer and retouching designers in my studio moan about the way ps resizes the zoom in retinas too.

MrSmith knows his stuff on such matters, his advice will be good. We had Eizo CG in my old place which was more photography orientated than illustrative.

For similar use although 80% of my time is illustration now, we’ve bought the most recent 27″ thunderbolt displays, can’t fault them but they are expensive RRP circa £750, I think.

Also used the most recent Samsung (can check model number on Monday) connected via HDMI but it’s not a patch on the apple, but then it was also £300.

I would also steer clear of retina type screens to retouch on as at 100% view the details are too small to work on and it’s difficult to judge image sharpness, you have to go to 200% on a higher dot pitch screen to get the same size and then it’s interpolating not pixel per pixel (screen to print)

This is a pain in the arse^ only downside

Kinnerton or Mold would be my choice. Hawarden is nicer too.
I’m in Chester it’s not too bad to get to Buckley if you live on the outskirts but you will get less house for your money.

Places that offer these ‘preparation fees’ are always of the arnold Clarke type, I’d stay away. I’m dubious about the whole thing, if you were to buy the car then find out a few days later say something like a switch doesn’t work are they going to say you had your chance to check it over etc it’s not agreed in the preparation. Just a way to make £ and shirk responsibility.

Loads of golfs about as said above, look for another?

If you not bothered by looks or that they all seem to be in horrible colours picked by pensioners, this is a really good shout. There are some real bargains as people prefer fiesta/focus. I’ve had fusions as rentals and they drive very similar to the fiesta of same era. I don’t think you could go wrong with a well looked after one.

Mine was on for 6 weeks, 1200 views, 4 phone calls, 2 tyre kicking visits. Then it sold to a passer by who saw advert in window of the car.

Autotrader offered me some package were it went on all these different sites at a reduced rate as it didn’t sell in the first month, i bought it and I think they saw me coming… Waste of time.

I have ventolin and qvar (dark red) inhaler. A word of advise to anyone given q-car I was never told, wash inhaler after each use as bacteria builds up and gives you mouth thrush. I’m sure it’s on the instructions and all… But I learned the hard way…

IMO the VRS is what boy racers get when they have a family; all body kit, not so much go.

It’s not, they have Astra vxrs, or older Imprezas. The VRS is for 9-5 workers who think they are different and think it’s quick.

People who are small in the trouser department say why didn’t you buy an Audi…..

Perhaps this isn’t anything to do with the size of their cocks and is a genuine question. It must be bemusing to see the cost of a lease on an Octavia and an Audi and see you pick the Skoda. It’s essentially a tacky version.

    King-ocelot

Taking image out of it, the Octavia can’t compare to the current 3 series, nor e9x.

    King-ocelot
    Free Member

Not as harsh as I have heard they are at all and not as dull as some claim. They are a bit tacky looking though and power doesn’t really match the bodykit. The guy at who has one claims it’s a ‘performance car bargain’ it’s not really a performance car not is it a bargain. He insists on referring to it as an ‘octy’ and says other owners flash their lights at him, but he only flashes back at other VRS owners, oh the price of exclusivity. I wouldn’t have one as I like driving and would feel embarrassed by it’s looks.

I own a bmw btw… So my opinion may be knobish
