New Second Generation Geometron G1: Even More Adjustable

We are not simply remaining because of “remoaners”, that is a right wring lie. It wasn’t a binary vote, it was never sold as no deal vs remain – which is why, as you point out there needs to be a second referendum.
Real democracy requires that.;
Please be aware I am 100% remain. I can only see myself losing out from any leave deal. I am deeply opposed to leaving on an individual, local and national level.
It wasn’t a binary vote,
It WAS a binary vote. That’s the issue. It was madness to simplify it to that. But it absolutely was a binary vote. There was no option to decide what kind of leave people wanted.
People voted for leave, which can only be taken as “anything but remain” until there is another referendum to explicitly what leave means.
Sadly, this seems highly unlikely to happen, so now we must start working towards making sure this Tory government is outed come the next GE and start to rebuild.
kiksyFree MemberI do struggle to see why dazh is getting such a hard time here.
The referendum (stupidly) was leave or remain. The country (not including myself) voted for leave.
Simply remaining because the original minority doesn’t agree with leaving stinks.
Now, things have changed, the complexity of what leaving actually means and the fact that a decent deal is impossible, and the only real option is no deal should lead to another referendum on no deal vs remain.
I can’t see how any legal wrangling to get out of no deal will fly with the general population.
kiksyFree MemberFor those saying that 30/40% isn’t steep, Strava rates Champery WC track at an average of 26.1%. Even at it’s steepest it never goes over 50% from what I can see.
Obviously this is Strava , so taken with a pinch of salt, but anything I’ve ridden over 40% (by Strava) in the alps I’ve considered steep.
kiksyFree MemberJust wondering where these Caterham fans intend to drive them.
I’d say “anywhere”. I think maybe that’s part of OPs point. Any journey in something like a Caterham is an event. It’s not about going fast and driving like an idiot, they are just very very involving whatever you do, all the time.
Most modern cars feel totally detached and numb.
kiksyFree MemberMR2s seem to have dropped off the face of the planet. More’s the pity.
PH is showing 6 for sale.
kiksyFree MemberHad an Elise for 5 years then to GT86. Also driven Caterhams.
Elise and Exige prices have rocketed making them not the “bargain” they were 10 years or so ago.
Gt86 is the best modern car I’ve driven that isn’t silly money. It’s not fast but it’s so balanced, driving position is great and it just feels right.
Caterhams are also excellent but hold their value insanely well. More compromised than Elise even.
As mentioned, my money would go on a mki or mkii MX5. They’ve risen in price recently but they drive great and are readily available.
kiksyFree MemberTrance 29er is 130mm/115mm. I’ve had a 27.5 Trance which is 150mm/140mm and the 29er feels firmer and more “racey”.
For trail centre stuff I think it would be excellent.
kiksyFree MemberDemoed one for a couple of days. Really liked it. I had a Large and I’m 174cm, wouldn’t of said it was huge on me, and that was with quite a long stem (60mm?). A medium would of been too small I think.
Pedaled and accelerated well. Rear suspension was good, firm but still took the sting out of most stuff. Pretty light and all the parts were good. That wasn’t the top end model either.

All wifi. Be aware that upgrade options are limited, and at nearly 10 years old, 2010 machines might have SSD/HDDs on there way out.
kiksyFree MemberNetwork card didn’t work on either(works under Win7). Proceeded to spend the rest of the night googling for a fix. Daughter lost interest after 5 min of typing sudo followed by random words, dashes and letters
Ahh.. the true Linux on desktop experience.
If you want to try out different distros quickly then https://www.linuxliveusb.com/ is great.
I’d still strongly suggest a Pi though. :)
kiksyFree Memberyeah I’d go Pi. Plenty of support online, can run many flavours of Linux as an OS or app or whatever. Then it can be used to do lots of other interesting things as well.
kiksyFree MemberWareham forest is nice as well and not too far, similar to puddletown and takes a bit to spot trails, but less hardcore than p’town.
Ah yes, Wareham is a good shout as well.
If you’re driving then park here: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Sherford+Bridge/@50.7327237,-2.1155299,285m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0xd03831a06c486ad6!8m2!3d50.7335781!4d-2.115703
and head to the trig point. Theres trails all over, follow your nose and explore.
kiksyFree Member30% sag and lots of tokens may mean you are ploughing into a wall of progression at the end of the stroke.
Air isn’t as supportive in the mid stroke, maybe try adding some air and reducing damping?
kiksyFree MemberLots of good riding over the Purbecks where you are based, but not a huge amount of technical stuff.
Don’t be put off by talk of gap jumps at Puddletown, as mentioned it’s all unofficial so there is lots of random bits, but the area isn’t huge and as long as you take it steady first time down a trail so you can see what’s coming up you’ll be fine.
kiksyFree MemberI’ve got Super Gravity Marys on, vert star front, trail star rear. Both have done well over 4 weeks alps riding, the rear in particular is near semi slick. Thinking this should work well.
kiksyFree MemberPurchasing for longevity seems to be harder than it should be.steel chainrings go on forever, but it seems hard to find cassettes with low gears made a steel.
Suspension seems to be another area that should be made simpler, more reliable and easy to service.
Riding locally is something that gets overlooked. Rather than sitting in a car for 2 hours each way, spend that time digging locally.
I’ve wondered if an open source mountain bike could ever work. Being able to 3d print parts and make them interchangeable.
kiksyFree MemberI have a 2016 27.5. Put a 2 degree angleset on it straight away.
Geo is good, nice and modern. No weird surprises with cable routing or standards or anything. Standover nice and low.
Climbs and pedals better than I expected, is very light. Descending is good but it seems to be very very stiff. I’ve only ridden steel modern geo hardtails (p7, Ragley) and it’s much harder work than them.
kiksyFree MemberI’d love to see some truly blind testing of bikes. Remove all the logos and put people on bikes they’ve never seen the shape of before, then find out which they like the best.
I’m sure the subconscious knowledge of a brand and price affects perception hugely.
kiksyFree MemberThe play is vertical rather than horizontal. The bolt goes into a screw which does seem to bottom out, but it’s always been like this and I’ve only just noticed the play.
kiksyFree MemberI got downtube mounts and was suggested here to get this. https://www.fidlock-bike.com/produkte_en.html#uni_connector
It’s brilliant. Any bottle you want, or anything else like tubes etc can be kept on it. When it’s not on the bike the mounts look tidy. Nice and secure too but still easy to get off to drink.
kiksyFree MemberCol Du Cou is excellent, did it off the back of the threads here. Its not really “DH” though in the same way some of the offpiste Pleney is. There is a bit of exposure though.
As for more offpiste DH stuff, the best way is to keep an eye out on the lifts up for little entrances, or ask some locals. We found a great offpiste route all the way back from Les Gets to Morzine just by riding off into the woods off the main piste down. Not sure of its name.
kiksyFree MemberOP your son can race for free! Well at least at any Southen Enduro race or South West Enduro Race. Lots of other organiser offer the same.
All you got to do is Marshal in exchange for his entry. Thought?
Was going to say this, lots of organisers do it.
Put one on then.
Whilst maybe a flippant comment, I do agree. Even if its just an unofficial thing with a group of mates in the local woods, stopwatch , pen and paper and radios. Clearly not the same as a national race but effectively free and still a lot of fun.
kiksyFree MemberGiant Trance 29er. Some good deals about and a really fun bike with great geo.
kiksyFree MemberStrava seems to now filter out lesser ridden trails. If the ride it, it should still come up though.
kiksyFree MemberYou can do this:
but need to be careful not to roll the seal of move the wipers. That won’t clear the port, but might give you an idea if that’s an issue if you hear air escape.
kiksyFree MemberI’m not sure that LL letting the air out of the negative spring has helped so how do I put it back in..?
If the port is blocked with grease, it won’t equalize the 2 chambers. If it’s not blocked it will equalize itself, you don’t need to do anything.
kiksyFree MemberI like Race Face Ambush D30. Not as chunky as a full plastic pad but offer plenty of protection, don’t move and are comfy. They’ve also lasted really well.
kiksyFree MemberAssuming you are 1x, run it into the frame same place brake cable goes in frame. Some people claim to need to remove the bb but you don’t. Just feed it through into the seat tube.
kiksyFree MemberBig fan of Super Gravity Schwalbes. Been using the same pair of Marys for 3 years in the alps in carbon rims with no punctures or issues. Planning on using them again this year. They are heavier and a bit draggier than the normal versions but for me it’s one week a year in a special place and I’d rather not have the hassle of punctures or damaged rims.
kiksyFree MemberIs it the lower leg kit? https://www.tftuned.com/tf-tuned-lower-lube-kit/p554
The packaging looks new, but all the previous ones I’ve bought have a bottle labelled “lower leg mix” or something similar.
The other wt stuff is for the damper. Once before I was sent the damper oil in a lower kit. Quick ring to TF and the proper stuff was with me next day.
Give them a ring and see what they say.
kiksyFree MemberI’ve just gone to a coil Helm.
The small bump and initial suppleness is night and day better than even the best freshly serviced air fork I’ve used.
Mid-stroke is better than any previous air fork I’ve used, and bottom resistance was easy to tune using high speed compression.
The only downsides I can see to coil are if you are REALLY bothered about saving weight, or if you are in between spring rates it might be hard to get the setup you want.
kiksyFree MemberAlso (and I can think of many reasons why you wouldn’t want to do this) what about tiered photographer levels? So maybe Pro, Amateur and Spectator.
Make it easy to filter by tier, and Pro tier can only be achieved by manual approval.
Spectator tier would be to encourage the random people taking photos/videos on their phones to upload them somewhere people can see them rather than maybe putting them on the Facebook event page, but more often than not just never seeing the light of day.
kiksyFree MemberI fairly regularly buy shots on there.
@downhiller interesting to hear you’re working on improving some of the quality. I’ve seen quite a few totally out of focus/poorly framed burst shots but doesn’t bother me too much scrolling through. What’s a shame is it does see that a few photographers do seem to focus on quantity rather than quality. Too often the positions the photographers setup at make it look like a casual ride in the woods with no features or dynamism in the riders, then just click away for hours.
At one race I went to (sadly not on R&R) a photographer turned up who was insanely good. He maybe only took a couple of hundred photos but I ended up buying way more than normal, including one that was just a shot of my muddy cranks, a portrait shot (which is now on my business card) as well as riding shots.
Event photography is hard (I’ve done some mtb races so know it’s tough), but I guess my point is – people will buy any old photos the first few races they do, but to keep people coming back and purchasing over and over for years you really do need the quality to be there.
kiksyFree MemberWell done to STW on the article.
Pinkbikes is just copy paste a press release pretty much.
Whilst it did seem to be true that a lot of people seemed to want Sick to fail from the start, they really didn’t need any help failing.
Some people seem to think that the impact PB and STW have on Sick will be nothing, but this is a niche within a niche within a niche. Sick come over badly in both articles, and the constant astroturfing on what’s left of their social media is highly transparent.
If they’d just stuck the making cool t-shirts they’d be laughing.
Hope everyone all owed money/frames gets them, but I reckon it’s 2 minutes to midnight for Sick.
